dang, Leiter pitching a gem against BoSox in his 2nd Yankee debut, just a day after being signed

Posted by Member of X on Jul-17-2005 23:53:

I love being wrong!! Al Leiter is pitching brilliantly, 8 k's through 6 innings? He's pitching like he's known for, not the old man he's been this year. I'm eating it up.

Awesome, at least for a day.

Posted by Shamez214 on Jul-18-2005 00:00:

I called it.

I also call this being Al's ONLY good start for the rest of the year. I give him three starts after tonight before going to the bullpen or being released.

i'll go against you and say he pitches well enough to go the rest of the way in the starting rotation.

Best of luck to you. But, being a Mets fan ( ), I've seen enough of Al Leiter... I'm willing to put money down that he has NOTHING left.

As a Yankees fan.....

He sure pitched better than the long line of retards that have been the 5th starter this year but I am also withholding judgement and skeptical. I mean he really sucked with the Marlins this year. Maybe it's the power of the pinstripes or the NY on his chest? No?

We'll see but Douchebag is back tomorrow and Pavano back in 2 weeks. Not like that is saying much...

agreed.. but as of right now, i think he is a better option than pavano, wright, brown, and dare i say it.. maybe even moose.

Whoa... how can you say Leiter is a better option than any of those 4??? Have you looked at Leit's stats this year? They are horrendous. He's probably been the worst starter in the majors this year...

honestly i really hadnt paid attention to him this year. was he that bad? i'll have to look it up.

otherwise he pitched great tonight and i know he has been a superb pitcher in the past with great enthusiasm.
if nothing else, maybe that enthusiasm will rub off on our other guys.

i think it was a great move. we'll see.

My friend's brother has already called that he's going to do it. I would love to see that happen. It would be so great...

Johnny Jesus Caveman getting a longer hit streak wouldn't be great. It would make me puke. I hate him!

Posted by Highmay on Jul-18-2005 15:39:

they probably noticed a burp in his pitching motion and corrected it...let's see if this trade rejuvinates leiters year...

I seriously doubt it...

According to Rotoworld:

quote:
National League batters were learning not to chase Leiter's offerings, but the Red Sox helped him out by going outside the strike zone the entire night. If some of the other AL teams not very familiar with him do the same thing, perhaps Leiter will help the Yankees. He still doesn't look like a very good pickup in AL-only leagues at the moment.

I have to agree. He didn't look good at all last night. Seemed the Sox were anxious or something. Guess we'll have to wait until Friday.

If he were still on the Royals or A's, would you care? Doubt it. So stop hating...

I can hate who I want and he's one that I do. I don't hate a lot of guys actually just it seems for some reason many are on the Red Sox. I don't know why exactly... hmmm...

Man Ram - hate the most
Ortiz - hate the 2nd most

I also hate Kevin Brown and Paul Quantrill too though so I'm fair.

Actually, if Jesus Neanderthal man had that hair and beard on another team, I'd still hate him. I'm not a big fan of the wild haircuts a la the entire Cleveland Indians teams that resembles Pedro's nappy look. But when you're name is Coco Crisp it's hard for me to hate.

Posted by verndogs on Jul-18-2005 17:55:

the only players worth hating in my opinion are players who are complete jerks

bonds, clemens, albert belle, etc

Yeah, I hate Bonds too. Belle yeah. Clemens?? Not really.

I think Man Ram is a jerk. He always stands there to admire his hits and yesterday he sat there and admired one, blew a bubble with his gum, as his bounced off the wall. He only got a single when I'm positive he should have got a double. I hate laziness and show boating.

Posted by TranceHater on Jul-18-2005 20:00:

Al earned his $450,000 in yesterdays start

Posted by Shamez214 on Jul-18-2005 20:41:

Meh... we obviously have different styles of favorite ball players. I don't mind Bonds at all. A little racist, but I can handle it.

However, my hatred or disliking of a player (I can't even think of any I hate that much) would never get in the way of me wanting to see a record broken. If Clemens (whom I don't hate, but I'm not fond of) had 49 scoreless innings... you're damn right I'd be watching that final inning and going crazy when he gets that first out. I love stats and love seeing records broken, no matter who is doing the breaking. Soo..

Swing away, Johnny. Swing away...

Barry Bonds breaking the HR record would be a travesty. I'm sure there would be plenty of boos if that happened because we all know it was helped by the use of steroids. If he broke it legally, then I'd watch but I still wouldn't root for it. Barry is a pompous A hole. He has his own couch and huge locker area in the clubhouse and practically has no friends on the team. Nevermind all the stupid comments he makes.

Man Ram has amazing talent but he acts like a buffoon, a prima donna, and really is lazy at times both in running the bases and fielding his position. My favorite players of all-time are guys like Paul O'Neil who never gave up an at bat. Plus, he was firey like me.. he just really cared about winning. My favorite football player has always been Isaac Bruce because he's clutch and always just scores the TD and walks to the sidelines. TO is funny at times but he is an attention whore just like someone on this board (and Curt Schilling).

I don't like show boats either. And I don't like guys who are just sloppy and don't act professional. Have respect for the game and your fellow players.

Of course I don't like Kevin Brown because he's a jerk, puts himself before the team (breaking his hand), and completely sucks even though he's paid 15 million.

Respect for the game? Babe Ruth was a fat slob. Mickey Mantle drank himself silly every night. Ty Cobb was a complete asshole. That doesn't take away that they are three of the greatest to ever play. I see nothing wrong with Johnny Damon growing his hair long. If he wants long hair, who am I too hate/judge him for it? And his long hair takes NOTHING away from him having a 29 game hit-streak. I don't see how you couldn't root for a guy to break the record. If he does (doubt it, but still)... what're you going to say to your kids in 20 years. "I remember the year Damon broke the record. I didn't like him because he had long hair." I, personally, can't wait to tell my kids how great players like Rodriguez, Ramirez, Ortiz, Abreu, Pedro, Mariano, etc were... Regardless if I don't like them or if I do.

However... I do think that if Ortiz was on another team, you really wouldn't care at all about him. He's the best LH hitter in baseball when there's no Bonds. Can't take that away from him because he is a Red Sox.

I'm a Mets fan. By nature, I have to hate the Braves. That doesn't stop me from saying that Andruw Jones is the greatest defensive player at any position I've ever seen. Or from saying that Chipper Jones is one of the best and most underrated players of our generation. I may hate when players like those two and Pat Burrell come to the plate because they kill the Mets. But I will never NOT give them props. Or say I hate them...

Again... that's just me.
