I had the two channel version of that mixer, the fader kinda craps out early though (didn't clean it much mind you). How do you like it?

Actually covering them up is not a good idea. They need to be ventiliated. It says it in the manual of the CDJs and of most mixers. You don't want them to overheat, so putting them in cases for a long period isn't a good idea, nor is putting them away in some cabinent either. I think the best idea is to just dust them off after each use, since most of the dust that accumulates comes actually from you using it. I have my set up in a room that no one is hardly in, and they attract a lot less dust than the set up I had that was in my room.

Posted by Briden on May-17-2007 04:06:

... yeah, but you don't cover them when in use. he means, when not in use. it's not going to hurt them being poorly ventilated and turned off, trust me. they aren't like frogs, you don't have to poke holes in the lid for them to breahe

Okay so what is the best thing to use to cover? They don't exactly make dust covers for them like they do for TTs...

And if it means they need to be ventiliated when in use, it's pretty stupid to have them covered when using them cause...well there's no point. From the sounds of it in the manual, they are talking about when not in use.

your pulling my leg now right?

equipment needs ventillation so it doesn't overheat and malfunction.
equipment that's in a box does not need ventillation.

period. i can't even believe i just typed that out.

Ok so what about pillow cases?

I know that ventiliating it while they are on is a must and common sense, but when in the manual it talks about ventiliation, it says "in a well ventiliated area" as in somewhere not covered up like in a case.

I've wanted to cover up my equipment, but when I read the manual it says that, so it makes me think not to..and that's what I've thought. Maybe i'm just incredibly nieve or stupid...but that's what i've thought.

Posted by Briden on May-17-2007 04:44:

you can cover them if you like, keeps the dust off, use a blanket i guess..

do you think the boxes that cdjs come in have ventilation holes?

Okay but a blanket seems to be too heavy/warm.

No that's why I was confused about this..it conflicted with what it says in the manual. It doesn't say "while in use keep it ventiliated" it seems to mean like I said "keep the player ventiliated, esp the CD Drive". Even on my stereo-mini system, it suggests don't keep the device in some place like a locked cabinent where it can't get ventilation, and this i've always thought meant while not in use. Duh you wouldn't do it while in use, cause your using it, and there's no point to have something covered up while your using it (how can you be using something covered up?).

alright, i give up.

Whatever, i'm not trying to start any argument, just want some clarification. It says in the manual "do not block any ventiliation openings" and install in a place where it will be ventiliated and not subject to excess heat. I have CDJ 200s and a DJM 400. It just says to clean dust off the unit, not cover the unit to keep dust away.

It says this right here..a warning:

"Slots, and openings in the cabinent are provided for ventiliation to ensure reliable operation of the product and protect it from overheating. To prevent fire hazard, the openings should never be blocked or covered with items (Such as newspapers, table clothes, curtains) or by operating the equipment on thick carpet or a bed".

Is this specifically talking about just in use? Cause why would you cover it while in use to begin with? I might sound incredible stupid to you, but I just want this all to be clarified.

Okay i read on Pioneer's forum that covering them up is okay. So i'm going to make some dust covers tomorrow out of shoeboxes and cover them with the paper they were packaged in. Been a wee paranoid about doing that and pillow cases or blankets I feel are too warm/heavy for them.

I've always covered my stuff when I'm not using it. I just toss a blanket over the whole thing. I don't like, wrap the equipment in blankets.

You don't need to do this, but it does keep the dust off.

Use some pillow cases/bedding sheets if you like to cover your gear when it's NOT in use. The dust is a killer for those channel faders. Just a suggestion that's all. If you want to keep your gear longer and obviously if you want to keep the resale value of the product then I would cover them when you're not using them.

Posted by Import on May-17-2007 17:17:

Ok well while were almost on the topic. Whats the deal with cases then...

I noticed some people, discobiscuit for example always seem to have thier gear in the cases, how is the ventilation in them? From what ive seen in pictures it looks minimal. However there arent exactly fans to block on my CDJ200s or DXM06, is all gear like that?

Do you use the lids to cover them when not in use?

Im looking into getting a case or some alternative like that, because im tierd of moving them individually around my house/friends houses.

Thanks, that's what I am going to do. I'm not sure about pillow cases for the CDJs, cause they seem kind of heavy but i'm using the pillow case for my mixer.
