i wan to start running. the weather is still shitty around here, though. i have p90, but i'm such a weakling that sticking to the schedule is hell for me. after yoga i can't do arms for a few days, for instance. i do the 'cardio' segment 3 or 4 times a week instead now...lately it's more like 2 or 3.

possible stress fracture.. however, those usually show up on the metatarsals....

in any event, you should prob take some time off to see if the pain goes away.

That's your problem. If you keep taking breaks, you're never going to improve. Even if it hurts, even if you're tired, you have to keep going. That's how it works. Stick to the routine and you'll see results, but do the routine every once and a while and you'll just plateau.

I just realised I don't have a pull-up bar for the P90X, and can't fit one anywhere. How about the band the guy uses in the first video to do 'pull-ups'? Anyone tried one of those?

Posted by ziptnf on Mar-23-2011 13:36:

My cousin's wife uses the bands on almost all the weightlifting videos. They work great.

I do the bands. I got the heaviest one I could find (purple usually online), because I knew I would be missing a little on the pull-ups. Works great

Been trying to get over a cold and was feeling really good today so I decided to try out some new running shoes...

10 minutes in (on a path that I never ran before, which turned out to be all up hill ) I was coughing up thick gross shit... So I walked it out a bit and then noticed my feet started to hurt like fuck!

I finally realized that these shoes suck. I wore them in Japan for a while walking around, and thought that my legs hurt just cause of the pure amount of walking that I was doing (like walking alllllll day, non-stop) and didn't put two and two together when I switched to another pair of shoes that it was the first pair of shoes (I thought I had just gotten used to walking that much).

Anyways, I got fucking sick again, I am coughing and crap (I got home and my skin had turned green and I felt like I was gunna puke)... I hate colds, and now I am bummed about these shoes.

The shoes are New Balance, which I never have had an issue with before. Rage.

Mine worked fine in the shoulders & arms -workout, just gotta put some tension on it.

So, I did shoulders & arms yesterday, but since I started on a wednesday, I missed the chest & back, and plyometrics -workouts from monday and tuesday. Gonna catch up today and do all of them + the yoga..

Guess I could've just started it from day 1, even if it was wednesday

i'm considering starting the full-fledged routine. i don't have a pull up bar or a band though. i'm just not interested enough in getting bigger arms lol.

One of the worst things you can do when you have a cold is exercise. Especially cardio.

Your arms aren't going to get significantly bigger. It's good to work all parts of your body. If you just want to get in athletic shape, do Insanity instead of P90X.

I never understand this. People say they wanna start working out but then they don't want to reap the benefits of working out. Wtf?

Anywho...Pull ups work your arms, deltoids and your back.

the peeps on the P90X forums keep telling me to combine the two....what is Insanity and what are the benefits (or, I shoudl ask: whats the difference of this versus P90?)

as for P90X, I love the routines, I am doing well. The only one I really, really hate is the one with the 1000 pushups. I think I would rather slit my wrists than to do this one....

Posted by ziptnf on Mar-24-2011 19:13:

Chest & Back is rough indeed. On my last round, I did 270 of the different style pushups. What a great workout

Insanity is basically ALL CARDIO. From what I can tell it seems to be on par with the difficulty that Plyometrics offers. There's a lot of crazy shit in that routine. If you really want to trim down, I'd do Insanity. But if you want a total body makeover, do P90X.

Posted by JEO on Mar-24-2011 19:17:

Jesus. I did Yoga X and Plyometrics today. Chest, legs & back tomorrow to catch up.

Yea, I thought I was almost entirely over it though, enough to get in some lite jogging...

I may need to look into this. I have seen great results on ALL areas of my body, except the tummy. I think I need to increase the cardio, so maybe this will work?

yes, the pushups are really tough. Maybe its the girl thing, I dont knw, but I do really well on the biceps/back/triceps/etc, so i am not thats it. All I know is that I feel really sore after the pushup one

I noticed this a little bit, but my results showed a pretty decent tummy improvement. I credit the addition of cardio X in phase 3. Insanity will give you better tummy results because there's more cardio.

You must not have a very strong chest. Don't worry about it, keep working at it and you'll get there. You can do them on your knees too, no honor lost.

Damn, that's a bit much. I would recommend just starting over instead of pounding yourself like that, your body needs rest.

Pushups aint shit. The best way to get strong/make progress is to do as many FULL/proper pushups to failure (even if at the start you can only do one or two), and then finish out on your knees to failure. Do 3 sets, each time adding one extra full pushup before you go to your knees. Keep doing this each time you work out, adding more and more full pushups each time, and before you know it you'll be rocking the shit out of them.

After 2 or 3 weeks when I first started doing them I was doing 3 full sets of 15-20 proper pushups.

And don't forget there are different techniques that target different muscles. Youtube tricep pushups! I do those a lot and it's really made a difference in the tone of my arms.

And a super easy and effective workout for triceps is overhead tricep extensions. If you don't want beefy arms use less weight and do more reps. I use a 10lb dumbell and do 3 sets of 20.

Thanks I didnt say I couldnt do them, I just said they were tough! Its the only workout where I have felt legit sore the next day, and I am a bit shakey towards the end of the workout in getting all the reps in.....I do need to improve, though (Im not kissing the ground or nothin!) so I will take your advice and hopefully I can get to the point where I dont feel so shakey at the end of the workout! No knees-pushups for me

Tricep pushup, this lady looks gangsta:

I think I'll start over on monday, from day one my feet are killing me.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Mar-25-2011 12:12:

Not exactly a workout, but while I was at home visiting my parents I dug a pond out in the garden for my mother. Turns out after you get about a foot down the earth just turns into thick clay embedded with limestone. It was absolutely exhausting, and I've woken up today with aching in muscles I wasn't sure existed.
