went to the rangers game and god it was a great game to be at...much better than graves night which got me a little teary eyed at the beginning but the game blew so i left after the second.

anyway, tonight shaped up to being a much better game than most of us anticipated. the two fights in the beginning, who would have thought orr could hold up so well against brashear? i sure didn't! then this fleishner (or whatever) kid on the caps came out and strong with two points in the first period. federov had flashes of his good ole days, you know the time before he was banging anna kournikova days. anyhow watching ovechkin play is always a pleasure because that kid has heart and is so damn good at what he does. i think it was during the third he had a shot on goal which literally came from nowhere. as the third and final shooter for the caps he ties which was a sick goal but unfortunately for the caps they lost. i'll be the first to admit ranger fans make me weary because i'm tired of hearing "shoot the puck" every two seconds or "potvin sucks" but i do really have to give it to them during the shootout not a single person was seated. great energy in msg tonight for sure. in two weeks i've got avs - devils then avs - rangers, i'm preparing myself to be disappointed though .

there are some big injuries, fine...but something is very wrong with this team since the all star break. They just don't show up and management is letting the coach drown.

I don't know what was funnier from the Caps-Rangers game last night:

The 40 second 5 on 3 where the Rangers passed it around and then let it float out of the zone or Jose Theodore during the shootout

Posted by L.E.N. on Feb-12-2009 21:16:

Sharks looked like shit. Im suprised they didnt get beat worse. Back up goalie Boosh did great. He was the only one really in the zone.

the two worst things about going to games are the fans who don't know anything about the game and the ones who think people came to see them instead of the game. also, i don't know why they put graves night the same night they are playing the thrashers. maybe they thought it would be an easy win or maybe they were thinking about ticket sales?

Posted by chimera66 on Feb-15-2009 02:54:

scheduling events/promos around games has pretty much nothing to do with wins or losses.

oh and the rangers game yesterday was a surprise...what's funny is i'm not even very much of a rangers fan but since i'm in nyc i watch all their games. whatev hard to catch avs games sometimes because of the timing.

i really think it has to do with sales numbers. both leetch and graves were retired on thrasher games and richter was retired on a wild game. only messier got the true treatment of retiring against his former team the oilers. maybe it's just coincidence, but i don't think so.

what day of the week and when was messier's retirement exactly?

think of it like this, hypothetically teams can be classified into different tiers like platinum, gold, silver, bronze. no matter when it is when your team is playing a platinum level team people are going to go to the game. if your home team is playing a bronze level team on a weekend then families who can't go during the week will most likely go because of the timing plus throw in a special for 4 tickets with food and beverage included and there you go. now if you have a bronze level team on a wednesday that's a hard sell even season ticket holders don't go which sucks. anyhow, if i were a team i would schedule all my special events on days when people are least likely to attend like mid week against a bronze team. that way during that week, you bump up the business on a day which would normally be slow. since its special you have the benefit of keeping people in the arena longer (ie arena opened like 2hrs earlier than normal i belive) which increases their chances of spending their money. special merchandise to remember the event and most importantly between work and that game you had no real chance of eating dinner elsewhere so you know more people are going to buy food. ticket sales are good but there is really a fixed amount of money you can make from them; in sports food, beverage and merch sales are HUGE. tickets although important is just part of it (varying levels of importance from league to league obviously). either way i can go on and on but i'll stop ...when it comes to sports unlike most i view things from a business perspective first then ease into enjoying a game.

it doesn't matter what level, no matter how shit the habs play there will be a sold out house to either cheer or boo the shit out of them.

hockeytown is only detroit if we live in the land of make believe.

toronto too...those fags.

being sold out refers to the number of tickets sold not the number of people who actually go. i don't care what sport or what city the drop count number will not equal the number of tickets sold every time.

Posted by elFreak on Feb-16-2009 02:58:

not this city.

not toronto either.

and toronto really fucking sucks.

definitely see this happening unless clemmensen comes back to reality during the playoffs.

Posted by sean5 on Feb-16-2009 08:27:

ovechkin is on pace to break gretzky's all time record in goals. who thinks he will do it?

Posted by bamski on Feb-17-2009 08:23:

Yeah.. The pace is good. But he'll have to keep that pace for some 10-20 years if he's gonna break it.

Let's get back on this topic in ten or fifteen years, then we'll see.

Posted by elFreak on Feb-17-2009 15:33:

lol habs trade draft picks for mathieu schneider.

it isn't a bad move, and with all these defensemen you know that another trade is coming. with tangay coming back this week, if they pull off a good trade the season might not be tanked just yet. I fucking hope so, it is getting pretty brutal suppoting these euro pansies now.

Posted by bamski on Feb-17-2009 15:39:

Why the fuck can't the Pens acquire a defenceman

I'm glad Therrien got sacked, it's a good start.

Now if only the GM realized that a winning team needs,

A. A solid defence (An injured Gonchar and BROOKS FUCKING ORPIK doesn't cut it)

B. Laraque. Back. Now.

edit:

Who the fuck loses their #1 D and does absolutely nothing about it? Getting someone to stunt for him never even was an option

Posted by elFreak on Feb-17-2009 15:58:

laraque is not going anywhere even if he hardly plays.
