I've decided that during my Yoga on sundays, I'm going to focus more on recovery and restoration (Yin) as opposed to lots of vinyasas and difficult poses (Yang). My weekly workouts are difficult enough, so I'd just as soon work on my flexibility and recover my sore muscles than work on durability.
Of course, there will always be days when I might like to challenge myself with a Bikram session where I'm doing some mega-yoga and sweating my balls off, but today I felt like relaxing. And it turned out great.

Did my 10k for charity this morning. Woke up at 7am and it was absolutely pissing it down with rain. I had to be at the assembly point before 8.15, but the race didn't start until 9, so I had a full hour of getting soaking wet from the downpour before I even started. There was literally a current of water flowing down the street as we left the assembly point.
Still, despite the shittiness of the weather and a huge amount of people clogging up the route, stopping at random or ambling along in groups, I still managed to finish in a PB of 49:46. That's almost 3 minutes faster than my previous record, which I'm pretty damn proud of, especially after posting a shitty 55 minutes on Tuesday. Having lots of people to overtake is a great way to spur you on - people would overtake me, which would make me speed up and comfortably overtake them again. For the last kilometre I was going all out - my hands were tingling and going numb, which is always a sign that you're really pushing yourself.
Hopefully there'll be some photos to put up soon. I might even be in one or two. Now let the training for the half marathon commence.

Not very insightful, but the hardest click was the last one. I was tired and my legs were starting to get very heavy, but I really kept pushing myself for the whole way. There was this guy with blonde highlights who was steaming up behind me and I bust a gut to keep ahead of him for a couple of minutes before he finally overtook me. Luckily I had that Diggers Essential Mix from 1995 on the MP3 player, and that ridiculous transition between Crescendo - Are You Out There and No Other Love gave me the energy boost to get up the final hill.
The best part was chatting to a cute girl before we started, and the worst was not being able to find her again at the end.
Jack, prior to attempting further distances, consult a coach of some kind, even if it's just the Internet. Running 10k the Tuesday before a Saturday race is ridiculous; you should be tapering your distances a week or two out to ensure you're fresh.
Yeah I know, but because I've been starting a new job I haven't actually done any training in the last few weeks. I very nearly didn't do the practise on Tuesday, for fear of injury.
I realise you're just doing a fun run and not trying to win the Olympics, but if you're scared of injury during a training session, what does that say about the race itself? If you haven't been training, a quick run here or there isn't going to change things. If you find yourself in a similar situation again, run 3-4k just to get your body back into gear and be fresh for the big event.
In other news, I busted my nut four times today (flying solo twice, wise-crackers). Quite the workout.
I'm scared of injury only because it'd be just my luck, and you never know when you might twist your ankle or pull something. My standard run now is about 9 miles through a hilly park, so I figured a mostly-flat 10k would technically be scaling down my run.
Also, I've figured out why my Tuesday practise was so shitty - I ran too far, 10.864km to be precise. That shitty 55 minutes in the blazing sunshine would actually have been just over 51 minutes if I'd got my route right, which was actually (then) a PB. I had genuinely tried hard and was severely disappointed that I'd posted such a terrible time despite my best efforts. That disappointment probably spurred me on to run even harder this morning, where as if I'd realised I'd done 51 minutes on Tuesday I'd have been happy with that and been complacent.
So yeah... I've actually only taken about 90 seconds off my PB (still pretty impressive, though), but not realising that probably made it happen.
Yeah so I mapped the run I usually do. Turns out it's just over 4km. I do it in usually 30-40 minutes.
Don't be one of those people who go at jogging pace but still call it a "run".
Oh excuse me! At what point does one call it a run then?
When I did my last official run, the big display screen at the start said if you can do 10k in under an hour you're running, if you take more you're jogging. So I presume running pace is under 6 minutes a click, although your 4km pace should obviously be a lot better than your 10km pace.

Yeah, because they like to be artificially competitive and discourage people at charity runs. I guess this guy knows less than you as well:

Fyi, my RUNS take 30-40 minutes because sometimes I alternate walking with RUNNING. But yeah thanks for your input all the same.
Unless you can walk at 3m/sec then it is classified as standing.

Unless your torso has an angle of less than 110 degrees from your legs, at the hip, that is classified as sitting.
