lol i misread what u said. u went i might and i read it as "it read" anyhow we r advancing and we have an easy oppenent. i still cant believe minnesota won. although ill take wild over avs any day. we have burtuzzi who just dominates physically. did u see people whta he did to their defence throughout like 4 games? he fuckin made them sore. every fuckin defenceman got punished by him. it was unbelievable to watch. 260 pound bertuzzi train just kept running them over fiercly on and on. i fuckin love this guy. even though he didnt score much this series he simply dominated physically. amazing. watch him break out againt minnesota for sure. anyway the whole canuck team rules and we are our bringing the cup to vancouver.

also i give credit to marc crawford. hes a genius.

Ok first off, The Flyers advanced, like I said. I was impressed with the way both teams complemented on one another. Especially Jeremy Roenick's speech. The Leafs did play hard but ran out of gas in the end. It was truely a great series.

The Canucks managed to come back from 3-1 to steal the series from the Blues. Truely a great comeback. The main line for the Nucks' was the key to keeping the team alive and sending them to the next round.
I'll admit, I didn't really focus on this series alot. But coming back from a deficit is one of the hardest things to do. Congrats Canucks.

Last but not least, the story of the night. The Wild eliminate the Avs in a thrilling overtime of the 7th game. I've gotta admit, the Avs were the better team here. They had plenty of oppurtunities and failed to get the puck in the net. Fernandez was the other reason. The rest of the Wild squad played patiently and attacked at the right times. Should be an interesting second round in the west.I'll make my predictions tommorow.

mixologist, its cool. we're all cup crazy here. as long as the nucks keep going and going. for the record, its a game 7, i can't stand to cheer for the blues thinking it will jinx/curse them. i must cheer for the nucks and so it proves my lame superstition wrong.

i'll make my predictions now.

Dallas in 6
Vancouver in 5

Ottawa in 7
New Jersey in 5

i say nucks in 5 but i'm actually scared of the wild. very experienced and smart coach plus it takes a great team to beat the avs.

I agree. One thing that I haven't heard anyone mentuion is how much of a diffrence Mattias Ohlund has made. If he wasn't in the line-up I don't think the Canucks would have advanced,,, so yes the big line was huge in the last few games... but the 'D' also deserve credit.

Hehe, last night was awesome!!! In regards to my first round predictions. I only got Vancouver right in the West, but all of them right for the East

I knew the Leafs would blow it, I just knew!!! They're bastards and I'm glad they're gone They played a good series though

The Flyers are looking rather good, but they must be tired. I don't think they'll stack up too well against a real defense like Ottawa's. Sens 4 Flyers 2

When I saw Gaborik tie it up late in the 3rd, I knew they were going to win. Fernandez was great in OT and then Brunette just walked by everyone. Shame on you Colorado But all in all, this was probably the best series of the 1st round. Congrats to the Wild. I think Vancouver might have some trouble with this team. The Wild managed to beat the most talented team in the NHL. I think Vancouver's defense will be the difference here, they're so damn big!!! Canucks 4 Wild 2

Anaheim beat Detroit because the Wings were asleep for the whole series. Don't count on Dallas doing the same thing. They almost had a scare with the Oilers . All that aside, I think Dallas has Anaheim matched and overmatched in every domain. That's why I think this upset will be that much more shocking.
Ducks 4 Stars 3

What's left now...New Jersey and Tampa. Well, Tampa woke up after two losses, but I'm not sure about this matchup. If Tampa stays hot, they have a chance to steal a couple games early. In the end though, I think New Jersey will come out on top. Devils 4 Lightning 1

Posted by sebby on Apr-23-2003 22:18:

Ok here are my predictions...

WESTERN CONFERENCE

[1]Dallas Stars vs [7]Anaheim Mighty Ducks
The Ducks played well against the Wings but the Stars won't take them lightly. Turco is better than CUJO. Giguere's real test is against the Stars whose offense will be too much for Anaheim.
Stars over Ducks 4-2

[4]Vancouver Canucks vs [6]Minnesota Wild
I believe that the Canucks Top line will keep doing the things they do best, put the puck in the net. The Wild won't go down easy though. They have alot of confidence coming in to this series. In the end, the Canucks will use that home ice advantage and end the Cinderella story run by the Wild. Canucks over Wild 4-3

EASTERN CONFERENCE

[1]Ottawa Senators vs [4]Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers went through hell the past two weeks and survived. Ottawa will find out what hell is when they play the Flyers. The way the Flyers killed the Leafs 6-1 in the last game shows how the Flyers can beat any team out there. The only player I worry about is Cechmanek. He has proven himself worthy in the playoffs. Will it carry over in the next round. I believe so. Flyers over Senators 4-3

[2]New Jersey Devils vs [3]Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning will truely know what the playoffs are all about when they play the Devils. This one's a no brainer. Experience vs Newbies. Brodeur vs Khabibulin. When you have players like Scott Stevens, John Madden, it makes players like St. Louis and Lecavalier a joke.
Devils over Lightning 4-1

Posted by raver31 on Apr-24-2003 05:39:

canucks in 5 over the wild. we gonna crush wild like grapes.

anaheim in 7 over dallas. giguire will dominate in the net once again and will be the difference

new jersey in 6 over tampa. nj has too much experience

ottawa over the flyers in 5. they had 8 days rest and will roll them over cuz flyers are tired as fuck.

Posted by jonnycarcinogen on Apr-24-2003 06:08:

Second round predictions

West:
1. Anaheim Vs. Dallas
winner: Dallas in 7
2. Minnesota Vs. Vancouver
winner: Vancouver in 5

East:
1. Philadelphia Vs. Ottawa
winner: Ottawa in 6
2. Tampa Bay Vs. New Jersey
winner: New Jersey in 6

Posted by J.L. on Apr-24-2003 08:41:

My predictions
4-2 Canucks over Wild
4-3 Stars over Ducks

4-2 Sens over Flyers
4-1 Devils over Lightnings

It's going to be interesting how it turns out. If these teams advance to the next round

then I predict
4-3 Canucks over Stars
4-3 Devils or Sens (i think it might be a close one if these 2 teams go together)

And I predict that either Devils or Sens will win the cup... Although I am rooting for Vancouver 100% of the way WOOOOOOOOOO

Posted by PhloTron on Apr-25-2003 07:25:

w00t @ 5 overtime games...Was glad to see the ducks win...TWICE imo.

Posted by jonnycarcinogen on Apr-25-2003 07:30:

I've gotta say I think I've seen more overtimes already in this year's playoffs than in any previous year. I watched the 5 OT marathon game between Anaheim & Dallas but because I was frying some food up on the stove I missed the goal. I caught it on NHL tonight though and I have to say I'm surprised but I'm also not. The Ducks can only ride Giguere so long before it all crumbles. So game two will prove what kind of team Dallas is after losing that thriller in an eerily similar fashion to Anaheim's game one upset of Detroit. I'm looking forward to Friday's games too, I can't wait to see how the Philly - Ottawa series plays out.

Posted by zarathustra on Apr-25-2003 20:14:

I watched the first 2 overtimes last night. I wasn't surprised at all that Anaheim won, of course I didn't think it would go on for so long.

Giguere has to be getting in the Stars heads, and that's the fatal mistake. That's what brought down the Wings. If Dallas is going to beat the Ducks, they can't let Giguere get to them. Easier said then done when he keeps performing like he has.

Canucks and Wild today...

I would say not the most exciting game as Minesota played a very structured defense. I was just about to give up on Canucks when they were down 3-1 but their comeback was awesome as they scored 3 goals back to back...

Minesota has a lot of speed and their defense is very well-planned... Canucks couldn't get a lot of good chances in because of that... but the problem with Minesota is many of their players are so young and inexperienced and lacked the individual talents that the Canucks had... and man, Fernandez almost let in that goal where the puck was slowly trickling towards the net...

All in all, I think Minesota has good organization but lacks emotion and skill...

Canucks on the other hand, have more individual skill and is really passionate (especially when they are down) which is what brought them to win...

I think Canucks shouldn't play the more conservative style they played today and should just go out there and cause some bruises... i mean... bertuzzi didn't even totally level anyone that game...

As for Minesota, I think the only reason they got so far is because they follow a good set structure and organization and are good at keeping the puck out of the middle...

Hopefully canucks pick up the pace in the next few games despite their win... they were pretty fortunate as minesota had 3 extremely close scoring chances that just barely missed

Posted by Mark on Apr-26-2003 05:59:

64 minutes of hockey played and about 50 minutes of it was boring as hell. we were lucky to win this one. i'm sure the wild will come out even harder next game, so the canucks better raise the level of their play or they will get burned just like the avalanche.

GAME ONE RECAP

Anaheim vs. Dallas
5 Overtimes! wow!!! I dunno what to say anymore. Ducks still undefeated in the playoffs. WTF?!?! Brilliant goaltending from both sides of the net. Of course we can only have one winner and on that night it was the Ducks. Boy did they deserve that one. LOL! I missed the game winner too. Half the people at the game probably missed it cuz they weren't settled in from their intermission break.

New Jersey vs. Tampa Bay
Didn't watch it. Knew the Devils were gonna win anyways.

Philadelphia vs. Ottawa
I have one word to say. BOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRINNNNGGGG!!! Philly didn't play their normal hockey after the first period. Even the Thrashers would have played better. I fell asleep dreaming about stealing the Cup and sipping wine from it. Flyers will pick up the pace next game.

Vancouver vs. Minnesota
The Wild made key mistakes that led to a Canucks victory. The Nuck's must be the luckiest team in the world right now. All Fernandez had to do was keep the puck covered and not move. Congrats Canucks for not giving up.

I pity the fans of that team, I could care less how much they've won, they're the most boring team playing hockey today. I know when the Leafs play them I usually make a point of *not* watching the game because the Devils turn everything into a snooze fest.

And people wonder why the Devils have a hard time selling tickets...hmmm...lets think about it for a second....exciting end to end hockey with the Rangers or Isles, or a trap fest dump-a-thon with the Devils, which is more fun to watch?

No brainer to me...

The Oilers may not be the best team out there, but they sure as hell are exciting to watch

i agree devils r boring as fuck to watch. they got no skill in scoring whatsoever. they r identical to minnesotas style of play. the first period of yesterdays game against vancouver was so dull i almost fell asleep.

Posted by sebby on Apr-27-2003 00:50:

How about them DUCKS!!! They're up 2-0! Still the only undefeated team left in the playoffs. Earlier I predicted Dallas over Anaheim in 6 games. That means the Stars need to win 4 in a row. I just do not see that happening.

With Giguere in goal, I'm going Duck crazy. They could actually go all the way. Think about it. If Detroit and Dallas, the 2 top teams in the west don't stop them. Then who will? Ottawa? New Jersey? Vancouver? Maybe, maybe not. But I don't want to count out Dallas yet. They will have Guerin back within the next couple games. See what happens then.

Posted by Mark on Apr-27-2003 01:20:

the devils' offensive skills aren't as bad as most people think. its just that their play is more defensive oriented. a few years back when they won the cup, the devils actually led the league in goal scoring yet they were still portrayed as a boring trapping team all year long.

this year, the devils have scored more goals than teams like the rangers, flyers and the sharks who are loaded with offensive talent. to be honest, their style of play isn't as boring as it was when lemaire was still the coach there.

Damn straight, the Oilers are my favourite western conference team since the Leafs moved to the East...it's a shame they have no budget to work with, that team is *always* exciting to watch.

I could care less how many goals they score, I care about how fun the game is to watch. The Devils can score 5 goals a game, but when the rest of the game involves play between the blue lines it turns into a boring tennis match for me.

Fast paced action can be exciting regardless of how many goals are scored, similarly, slow paced trapping 'action' can be boring, regardless of how many goals are scored.

They might not be as bad as they were a few years ago, but they still stand out as the worst offenders in the NHL for their style of play, and as I said, I pity their fans.

I can only hope that Ottawa or Philly will have enough firepower to take them down, the last thing I want to see is them tarnishing the excitement of the Stanley Cup Finals again...imagine for a second the speed and action of a Canucks vs. Senators or Flyers final, and then contrast that with the boredom factor of a Ducks vs. Devils final, sheer agony.

I love seeing the Ducks do well, and I love seeing Stumpy scoring again, but a final match between two defensive teams of that calibre would be pure suffering IMHO.

Posted by Mark on Apr-27-2003 02:27:

actually, judging from last night, minnesota has definitely claimed the most boring team title.

i see your point. its not always about the number of goals. however, i hope that you can see my point that for someone to say they have no skill is just taking it too far.

Posted by jonnycarcinogen on Apr-27-2003 19:40:

Awww, boo hoo the devils and wild are "too boring." Cry me a river.. I happen to like defensive play, I've always been interested in how defensemen work and how they bottle up offenses. I love the devils and any team that plays defense first. Not only do they frustrate those with a short attention span, they do it to their opponent as well.

2 more hours to the canucks game. im feeling we gonna blow them out in a huge fashion
