Shame / Disagreement Re: Re: Curious

ps: how can someone "seem" like a hyprocrite on a messageboard? U seem like ur 16 yrs old.

Have to comment -- can't resist.

Jules is ok..just plain O-K. His track selection is bearable, but his arrangement sucks. He's a good RADIO DJ, but that's all I give him. So far that's all you have to say that I agree upon.

Now onto the topic of Oakey, "...same outdated tunes..." !?!?!?! granted he plays certain perfecto favs...but he DOES put out lot of white labels on the floor! His track selection is superb, his arrangement is just perfect. Oakey is much better than any of the "world class" DJs that spin at TWILO. Sasha and Digweed, Cox and PvD are good, but sorry to break it to you, Oakey is better. World CLASS is what OAKENFOLD is about. The rest are just in the backlight of what he has done and is doing. You're prob. "bitter" because he (Oakenfold) refuses to play at Twilo due to the arrogance of the management. I know quite a lot of people in the industry, so what? Has no relevance to one's opinions to who is a good DJ. There is my opinion and my "bashing" of DJs which is not derived from any particular person from the music industry but from what I feel and whom I enjoy listening and trancin to.

I apologize beforehand for making this seem as a flame.

BTW: that whole mTV thing was a big ass joke. A friend told me to turn on the crappy show around 11 PM one night. They showed bunch of ppl (am guessing around 100 ppl showed up there) for about 5 minutes TOTAL with just some schmuck yappin with Oakey spinning in the background. SAD SAD SAD!
I also missed Gatecrasher night @ Limelight Damn I needed to lose couple of poundz before the summer really hit.

what's flaming, is it when there's a long message or somethin

yeah anyways i didnt really think it was simon jules scratched, just knew it had the same vocal.. but i hadn't heard of the track you guys suggested.

What is so world class about Oakie??? He plays the same stale 2 hour set everywhere. Look at the tracklistings...same tunes. As a WORLD Class DJ he gets tons of promos & white labels yet he resorts to classics & anthems b/c they are guaranteed crowd pleasers. He's still playing tranceport.

how & why do u think Oakie better than Sasha, Digweed, Carl Cox, & PVD?

Oakenfold played at Twilo once & they were rude to his gf. Twilo wouldn't pay him the thousands he demanded. Plus he prefers to play at bigger venues. Ur entitled to ur opinion but back up your arguement.

Not back to the same Oaky stuff, you allready know my point Twilogoddes :-) .. I have to disagree about him playing only on bigger venues :-) thats for sure!

i wouldnt say he is better but he's easily as good.. but i think a lot of european DJ's sometimes play some of the older shit over there because to most ppl at these things they are newish tunes... im sure u would be the first to admit the US is a lil behind on the trance scene. its improving though

peace

who is this oakey person you all seem to love arguing about

Posted by patticus on Jun-07-2001 23:05:

yes, they're catching up, they have christopher lawrence. woohoo!
but seriously, respect to kimball collins... and mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... to sandra collins
and hooray for us canadians, we have max graham and hatiras (all right, fine, he's house.. but he's on defected)

they have these quality DJ's but they probably play abroad more than in the US most the time. and yes mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm sanda collins... mmmmmmmm

and canada are way ahead max graham is one of the best deejays ive heard...

Posted by havok118 on Jun-07-2001 23:29:

mmm...sandra collins indeed, I met her and she kissed me , so what if she's a cokehead

Posted by LiquidX on Jun-07-2001 23:48:

LOL.. Mmmmmmmmmm Sandra Collins, .. well, we got Kimball Collins, Christopher Lawrence, Micro, George Acosta, Edgar V, and bunch of others maybe not well known.. many good locals on major cities, but I can say that the sates is only catching up with the sound in the major cities, slowly getting into the impossible places, I mean, central USA dont even know what the Binary Finary tunes are, so just stop bitching about it when they play older tunes :-)

LOLOLOLOL - damn Patticus, your posts just keep gettin' funnier.

I will have to strongly disagree with Twilogoddesses' statement about Oakey only playing larger venues - i have seen otherwise firsthand.

He spun at this local Delray Beach, FL club called Orbit in November of 2000. There couldn't have been more than 70 people at this function, but all 70 people (including myself) were crammed into the 10 square feet around the DJ booth. (and this club used to be a supermarket - lots of open room)

tata for now....

-der ABT-

Posted by QuickStep on Jun-08-2001 04:16:

Yeah, I have to agree with ABT, we saw him at a LITTLE club in Philly the second time he came. There were kids outside dancing to the music , cause it was way too packed inside to move. We just knida stood around (because there was no room to dance) and enjoyed good music.

I've never met the man, and all I hear is hearsay about his personality, so I'll believe that he's a good DJ that I like to hear.

The nyc & miami club community is very educated. Certain trance DJ's on tour play older shit b/c they are crowd pleasers. Certain other DJ's play upfront fresh tunes every time they're in town. yes I agree, train is not as mainstream. We are not behind no new music.

& who cares about the space? He places the same set everywhere...look at his tracklistings for the past 6 months.

Posted by ABTsportsline on Jun-08-2001 08:21:

Oakenfold plays the same set everywhere? ......damn

Posted by SYNthSRI on Jun-08-2001 13:14:

heh

True his tracklisting stays pretty much ...stable with new ones poppin up here and there. The thing is, its about pleasing the crowds -- masses --. His tracklisting does just THAT. There are couple of suprises for the traceaddict here and there thrown in.

You should know better than anyone, music is a business, where ever they PAY him, he goes. Plain and simple, this is not restricted to venues that are big or small, but rather to venues that can afford to pay his price.

By world class, I mean, he's a sought after DJ all over the world!
Ppl want to see him DJ all over the world, his name is synonymous with TRANCE. Plain and simple. His name brings in the crowds, his music pleases the crowds. All business.

In person, he's a cool kat, who isn't snobbish to his fellow trance enthusiasts, but that's just what I got of it when I met him.

till later

I have to shit to say but I'm sick of discussing Oakie.

Posted by SYNthSRI on Jun-08-2001 16:48:

Invisible Grin
