True but it's probably tax free for them tho...
It _is_ becoming a very expensive habit tho considering over here in Dublin cigarettes are at 5.86 euros for a pack. And to think i was complaining about the 3.50 euros i had to pay when i was in Belgium...

lol, Of course they do. I don't remember who, but I know at least a couple of 'em have already admitted it.

Rasta

lol as I was reading this thread, a banner saying "stop smoknig" came up haha sadly ironic.

yea im a smoker, but i cut down a lot...only smoke when I go out for a drink...or a club or something. More social right now than a habit. But during exam time, its brutal

Posted by monishb on Jun-06-2003 21:22:

i quit 3 weeks back , i smoked at TA @ system , but now only socialy i havent touched a cigarette in the last couple of weeks, its been tough, but i guess you save your health, rather than killing yourself.

Posted by Skipper on Jun-07-2003 02:13:

Never had one cig in my near 23 years on this planet..never will, either.

Same... exactly the same. I never smoke alone unless its exams/stressful times. Even then I barely do 2 packs a week. Been smoking on and off for two years now. Not really addicted or anything yet.

Posted by BTG on Jun-09-2003 04:52:

i don't smoke tobacco much...even though i am right now..but i just got off work and i was hauling 90Lb boxes around, so its a good enough excuse for me.

Posted by Dr. Z on Jun-09-2003 16:09:

So..
Do you smoke for pleasure?

Posted by LKD on Jun-09-2003 16:52:

Dr. Z.... Alcohol and cigarettes used to be illegal and or/ deemed a taboo until the 19th century. Marijuana on the other hand had no laws against it and has been illegal over the 20th century..possibly getting legal soon...

anything can give one a high...people sniff gasoline for a high...can u stop that?? can u say "you are breaking the law by sniffing gasoline"???

no.

there was a demand to make cigarettes and alcohol legal and therefore it is...

its become a taboo again to smoke because the world now does realize the adverse negative effects of smoking and i think its bad enough that we cigarette addicts are looked down upon. i thin its about time u just let this go...ur the only one in this whole thread who seems to be showing off that u dont smoke and it really makes me sick to see people like u around here

Posted by drgoodvibe on Jun-09-2003 16:56:

^^^^^^^ I agree, Alcohol causes thousands of deaths due to drunk driving, at least when you smoke (hopefully in an area where your seperated from non smokers) your only killing yourself. Im a non-smoker, I smoke a cigar every once in a while, but I'm not a fan of second hand smoke. In school (chiropractic school) I actually disected a smokers lungs, and it looked HORRID.. the person died from lung cancer and I could see how black, and hard the lungs were. Lungs are suppose to be pink and spongy even after you die! We even disected the tumours and such, it was the most disgusting thing I had ever seen. Honestly I dont know why anybody would want to do that to themselves.

and i thoguht u had reasoning capabilities

well many start because of peer pressure, others start cos they couldnt care less about life(like me)... once u get addicted and reach the stage of a pack a day, ur brain stops producing nicotine because it expects an intake from cigarettes... this causes the addiction and prevents one from goin cold turkey... most people who go cold turkey have issues with their metabolism and also their nervous system is unstable...its less pain continuing the intake from cigarettes than go through hell for months together ( i wen thru that hell for 2 weeks..i know)

oh hey, sorry if I came off as being judgemental, I know how hard it must be to get off the stuff. You sound like you know what cig's do to your body and such, but its almost as if you've totally given up on trying to quit. What about nicorette and all that?? Dont just give up on trying to quit your lungs are one of the few organs that you have that can regenerate..

Sure, 50 year old 2 pack a day smokers lungs are disgusting. Most people aren't that self indulgent for their entire life.

actualy yes.. i've dissected an entire human body, and have studied it for 8 months. Livers over years of alcohol abuse dont stand much of a chance either. I find it odd when smokers find it neccerarry to make references to the evils of alcohol. Scroll up, I mentioned the fact that alcohol is just as bad or worse to cigs in my opinion, i'm just saying why not choose to quit? Human livers have the ability to metabolize alcohol taken in moderation very easily without detriment. Ever hear how a glass of wine once a day is acutally good for you? But there currently is nothing constructive or positive coming from cigs.. and what od outdoor activites such as skateboarding or surfing, or bungee jumping have to do with sticking something in your mouth and smoking it? They all have risks sure, but walking down the street to the grocery store has risk these days. p.S street racing is illegal in most countries..

I don't want to quit because it feels so good to smoke when I'm spinning or producing or practicing. I can think so much better while I'm smoking.

never said I was a doc.. far from it! Actually most of the time i'm dumb as a post. I really dont know why when you're on dexatrine it feels so good to smoke. Theres so much crap going on in ones brain with chemicals, neuroreceptors, hormones..and so on.. that the dexatrine and the chemicals in nicotine create a euphoric feeling? Only you really know. You do have to understand though, years of brainwashing at school have made me be very preachy about cigs, drugs, so on and so on.. so just tell me to shuttup when I get annoying.

Posted by drgoodvibe on Jun-09-2003 17:53:

p.s.. i jsut remembered.. isnt dexatrine an amphetamine that runs along the same lines as speed?? And ofcourse correct me if i'm wrong, but doesnt everything feel good when you're on speed? and other amphetamines, and aren't all your senses enhanced so the cigs become extra gratifying??

I got news for you partyprincess...you're addicted!! haha. In all honesty I cant believe you're trying to encourage smoking!! And to compare sports to cigarettes?? never heard that before

LKD I can relate to what you're saying bro. Most people dont understand the evils of smoking. Even those that know wont admit it(biggest sign of addiction-denial). I remember I dated this girl that used to smaoke like a chimney(more than a pack a day on her 90lb body). When I brought it up her response was "as long as you dont wake up coughing"..wtf??
Going back to the evils of smoking, the side effects are slow but consistent, seemingly minor but actually deadly. Basically i'm trying to say they are not as prominen(compared to any other drug) and by the time they build up after coulple of years of its too late. FRom the digestive and nervous systems you mentioned to the short term memory loss, low energy levels, less stamina, muscle breakdown, low appetite, most organs' intoxication, thinning of the skin, just negative attitude, and on and on. You can also add to the time spend smoking in breaks where you could be eating, and also $$$!
My suggestion if i may is to start a physical activity that you find fun. Any sports that you like but better yet weight lifting. When you find yourself running out of breath before everyone else and lifting less than some girls you'd realize the sticks have to go. THen you're gonna want to quit even more. I had a friend last year that i used to work with and leter wento to the gym with and he was a bodybuilder(13 years of lifting under his belt)..anyways he made it seem so easy. Everytime we were on break and I would wanna go for a smoke or someone would offer me one, he'd say "just fuck it"!!
i'll admit you do need to be around friends that dont smoke...
just keep trying and you will...and rem you gotta be smarter than the sticks!
good luck!!

Posted by tha_broad on Jun-09-2003 22:08:

I used to smoke all the time..then i found my self always feeling gross after each cigarette that i had so i slowly quit on my own without realizing it....then one day my friend told me about the headrush she got when she smoked when she was drinking...so i started smoking when drinking...now for me...smoking and drinking go together like bacon and eggs....it just works....and thats the ONLY time i smoke...unless u count the green...then were talking a whole different ball game

You need rephrase "and they cause cancer" by...and they CAN cause cancer. Second hand smoke can cause cancer as well...so maybe you shouldn't go to clubs or bars.

lol

Alcohol is not even close to the danger of cigarettes. I agree, people are dumb enough to get drunk and cause the killing of themselves/their friends but its their own stupidity not the danger of the drug.

wtf?

I'm not showing off anything. Why are my opinions being attacked?

Posted by AmbiguousBliss on Jun-10-2003 02:32:

^^^ To be honest, I personally see more people showing off that they do smoke than the ones who don't. I don't see how it's showing off though? As for not smoking, it's the 'square one' where everyone started. Should you choose to take it on, that's your decision - your (and actually other peoples', too) problem. I'm not trying to put anyone down, just offering a couple of cents.

Posted by Kris on Jun-10-2003 22:51:

I used to... i stopped 2 days ago (i hate saying quit) when i relized I'd like to outlive my parents....

P.S - the stupidest arguement you can have is trying to justify the use of one harmful substance over another... Smoking is bad for you as is marijuana, other drugs & alcohol.. so don't try to defend your bad habits... just accept the fact that it's all bad :P

You are being completely idiotic. Are you saying that all these car accidents, stabbings, fights, falls, whatever the case may be, would happen if the person hadn't been drinking at the time? Alcohol impairs your judgement emensely, no matter how level headed or "smart" you think you are. Alcohol hurts your liver in the same way that cigarettes kill your lungs. They are equally dangerous.

um, no.

alcohol disrupts the liver over long extended and heavy drinking patterns.
smoking has thousands of chemicals and toxins that cause cancer in various places, other diseases and not to mention stuff like hair loss, stained clothes, nasty teeth etc. they are so not equally dangerous, you're just trying to defend your bad habits!!

Posted by Dr. Z on Jun-11-2003 05:36:

They do see both sides of the story...

You just refuse to accept the greater impact of one of them...

Posted by ~*AngelsEyes*~ on Jun-12-2003 03:42:

OK !!!! Life is dangerous by it self alcohol or drugs just add fun into it at some times!!! even without drugs or alchol there is still lots of problems and some ppl only blame it on the most obvious without looking into it further !!
Yehh 2 much is not good but a little sometimmes is ok !
