I don't remember entering myself in this system, but go ahead and put me in it. I don't know how long I'll be able to participate, but I'll do whatever I can.
Thanks Kaos.

i think 30 mins is too short. i say 45 mins min, preflably an hour if pos. i dont think you can do too much in 30 mins that all. 5 tunes if your lucky.

Posted by Nrg2Nfinit on Jun-08-2003 08:28:

but if this idea is to kinda battle against other DJs, 30 mins is enuff i reakon, 5 tunes is easily possible

You only need good cueing skills

couldnt we say min 30 mins max 1hr?

im not one for mixing out of things quick, i like tracks to their entirity, i happend to like longer tracks more on average, and after playign about earlier, i only just managed to get 4 tunes inside 30 mins that means a set starter, 1 buildup tune!?, 1 climax, 1 finisher, haha

well, eddie halliwell fitted 11 tunes in 20 mins on pete tong's show

i wouls say meet in the middle @ 45 mins, that way it will suit different styles

i could do a page for it as well based on php and mysql. this would allow a lot of stuff like an automatic ranking. also each dj could get an account and challenge another one, and everyone could see who is currently challenging whom and so on...

i also think challenging should be one n 2 weeks thus also those who don't have that much time are able to participate... also i personally think 30 mins is a too little, imo 45 mins would be better.

honestly i don't like the ranking system. the following would be better imo:
- each battle can end with a victory (resulting a defeat for the other competitor). there should also be a possibility for the battle to end in a draw
- vitory gets 2 pts, draw 1 point for each c., defeat 0 points

like this you could do the ranking system like in sports, but each competitor should start with no ranking and no points. if 2 competitors have the same amount of points, the one having more victories will be higher-ranked

just my 2 cents

Posted by Luke Terry on Jun-11-2003 20:27:

Cool

3 points would be better, if it was a leaugue tho we could only have say 10 competitors first time round coz that's still 9 battles per competitor, 18 weeks, knocking on 4-5 months...

At first i also thought of 3 points for the winner, but i think this would be too much, the gaps between the djs would become too big... i personally am for 2 pts / victory, but if you like 3 better i won't stop ya

english premier football divison uses 3 points v 1 and look how close that was!

Sorry peeps- wasnt getting updates for the thread!

Mixes can be 30-60 mins- if you wanna bang 10 songs in 30 mins its going to have the same effect as 10 songs in 60 minutes I would think.
You're not going to play a 30 min 10 song armin type set. lol

Im sorta behind on lists and judges- please quote main list and say judge or contestant- Judges- Please state your pref or style you like - We dont need one judge who only likes DnB judging 2 hard trance peeps. YA HEAR ME? lol

If it was going 6 months- and someone started from scratch- he would never catch up. its fine for a "season" but not for an ongoing thing-

I like the Idea for a site- that would be nice- do you have enough hosting for something like hosting the top 5 mixers that won or something like that?

Forum section? I know forums are pretty easy to add to sites now.

We could also maybe accomodate and people could maybe upload their mix and people can download them and listen to and compare and have a voting system- but thats more on honor system. bandwidth issues too.
just more ideas.

I like the site idea though.
Who's gonna pony up the site name!? lol

Cool

i think a season would be a good test to see how if it works

I guess i would be down with a point system say 3-6 months.

we could do something like a new challenger comes in can challenge anyone outside the top 5 and if he beats them gets a % of the persons challenged points.

Say I challenge you and you have 100 points- i win
I get 75% of the amount of points you have. now im new with 75 points and you have your 100 still

all these #'s are just fill ins of course.
of course you wouldnt be a challenge- so easy pts!

wow, just read through the threads, i'm totally impressed.

kaos, i said most of my ideas already in our other conversation. i hope you put something sweet together.

i am hoping The Ladder is set up so a competitor would get challenged and need to be ready to mix right away. i probably wouldnt be interested if there wasnt lots of mixing and challenges going on. That being said, I just won an award to go to the Netherlands for 8 weeks and I will be away from my tables . I would LOVE to compete upon my return, but i currently cannot put the time in (any time actually), and so i feel kinda like its my "duty" to say so. i'm sorry but i hope my involvement early on gets me an in when i get back. i dont know how your setting it up, but i can still judge because i AM bringing my laptop. i prefer Progressive, Prog Trance, Hard Trance, Trance, Deep House, Prog House, and Tech Trance.

have fun kids, i'm going to trance mecca

It's the same here in germany, but as i think there won't be that many draws the gaps would become too big

@kaos:
1. you didn't sign me up as competitor!
2. well, i have a webspace at lycos *lol*
i have mysql and php at lycos. anything else is piece of cake what at least goes on the webpage should be talked over, but nearly anything is possible except one thing: i don't have any webspace where the best mixes can be uploaded. perhaps we should do this via ed2k or sig2dat links... i don't know anything else

Posted by mr_sick on Jun-12-2003 07:32:

I'm in as a judge, I got lots of problem with my turntables, so I prefer not participating as an athlete.

My style is: Uplifting Trance, Hard Trance, Tech Trance, Techno, Hardtek

I should have enough space for hosting.
And I signed you up!

I can't be an "athlete" because of the lack of required hardware/software to broadcast my mixes. I'm getting my first demos recorded this Sunday after spinning for 2 years, so you can see why I can't participate to compete.
I'd love to become a judge though, if that's possible...thanks!
