I'm not american...i have not lived there...nor plan to....i have lived in canada.

how many generations of Canadian are you .. ? i think it takes time for one's lineage to adopt the country of origin esp if they're only a 1st or 2nd generation of that country's stock. If you moved to another country say .. Argentina, Morocco, or Mongolia for example, I'm sure you'd still consider yourself Canadian, and chances are your kids might as well if you're married to a Canadian. It would probably take atleast a couple of generations before your children might consider themselves as 100% Mongolian first and foremost.

i consider myself pretty patriotic. if i travel in other countries and ppl ask what i am i tell them i'm Canadian even tho i look Asian in appearance. When I watch the Olympics on TV i don't cheer for any other country than Canada. While at the same time I don't forget my roots are from 3 different other countries. The fact that I have a Micronesian flag is not because I'm not being patriotic, I just like how that flag looks. I have no Micronesian in me. But there is no doubt that my location to the left sports Toronto.

It just bugs me when people live in a country, exploit it, and are provided with a safe, politically stable environment such as Canada and can't even respect or celebrate it.

Yes, it is a stupid thing, but there's no need for generalization. There are many of us who do not fit that description.

A-fucking-men

yup yup, my cuzins are like that, they piss me off. wat they do is they put on a some basketball jersey and with some stupid indian logo necklace hanging around their necks, and at the same time disrespecting their religon and calling themselves proud to be indians. i lived in india for 2 years and the indians born here in canada dont know anythign about their culture at all. i just hate it when they show pride without knowing wat their doing is suppose to be stupid. i hope it makes sense.

I agree. you'll find those in almost every culture. unfortunately Canada and specifically Toronto is a breeding ground for that type of sentiment. Multiculturlism comes with goods and bads and unfortunately that's not one of its finer aspects..

someone earlier said in this thread that canada is the best in the world, well i totally disagree.

ok back on topic:

i'm native (coptic) egyptian... both my parents are egyptians.
i was born there, lived in saudi arabia for 10 years, and then moved to Canada when i was 11.

i have to admit that Canada is by far the best country I have lived in...I would continue to live her as long as i could. As far as best country overall, u can't really judge that. It's all personal. If u feel comfortable in a country, i think u should stay. Also support the country as it supports u.. no sense of talking shit about a country which have made u free of wars, illness and gave u the right to live ur hertiage. To me, i think i repsect Canada mostly because they didn't come and brain wash me into being a patriot.

What is Funny is that a foreigner going INTO Germany may hold dual Citizenships. Yet, where I, a German Citizen living outside of Germany, am not allowed to have Dual citizenship. I am sticking to my German Citizenship and have absoloutely no intentions of becoming a Canadian Citizen, not because I don't like the country but because of the fact how much money my family had to pay just to become landed immigrants. I Don;t wanna give the Gov anymore money than I need to.

100% Chinese...... from Hong-Kong, came to Toronto when I was 5.

Although I was born in HK, I can't see myself as being anything other than Canadian and it helps tht some ppl think i'm cbc.

The only problem with Canada and all this multiculturalism, is that if something was to happen to Canada(ie. war), there'd be nobody here to defend it. Why do most immigrants(including myself) still have dual(or in my case even triple) citizenship?? So that in case something doesn't work out here, they can go home.

LOL, well everybody has their own reasons, i dont negate them though..

i think holding a Dual nationality would be awesome, i dont think i will pay more to the govt by becoming a citizen though, you can give up your citizenship at a later time of frame if you wish also. i pay enough taxes as a immigrant also, as any other canadian, so for me in reality it wouldnt make much of a diffrence whether i did or did not become a citizen

Heck i got a refund check on my taxes for 1400$ which i overpayed.

nobody wants to give money to anybody in todays world, but i think in order to support what the govt is giving back to us, its really something no other country i have seen has offered, for eg:health insurance, unemployment insurance etc.

Hm.. I'm not sure what money you are talking about. Immigrating to Canada doesn't cost all that much money. It costs a lot if you hire a lawyer, but then it's your lawyer who gets most of the money, not Canadian government. Also, becoming a Canadian citizen it's all that expensive.. As far as I can remember it's around $750.
