Hasn't this happened to MIKE before as well, why do inferno seem to constantly shit on him from high levels?

Not heard that one, not looking forwrd to it either

Posted by conk on Sep-02-2003 15:04:

This song reminds me of the time I bought Kid Vicious - Proceed and when I got it, it was a one-sided vocal version. I nearly broke the thing in two, it sucks cuz I never wanna play it now but its such a good song.

Posted by DjSimonB on Sep-02-2003 16:19:

Can't believe that hope MIKE does something about it before it's too late... commercialism sucks really, tracks like that should be left alone from vocal cheese.

Ye I've heard the new Binary Finary vocal version too, it's pretty bad... apparently it's not even called Binary Finary or 1999 or anything

Posted by dstrukt on Sep-02-2003 16:29:

Oh jesus that was fucking aweful *plays original to make himself feel better.

Apparently the webmaster of M.I.K.E's site is saying this is an authorised vocal version.

i don't believe that.. i think his label made the decision without consulting mike.. mike just got back from a 4 week holiday, my guess is this is new to him too..

Posted by Haak on Sep-02-2003 18:07:

i don't think Stefan is making it up (unfortunately) heh

Posted by Clyde77 on Sep-02-2003 18:13:

same what happened to the vocal version of walhalla

wtf? how old is she anyways? she sounds like a 65 year old dying lady.

Posted by matt29 on Sep-02-2003 19:46:

that sample is really bad, are you sure that isnt you singing over it?

Posted by El~ZaPo on Sep-02-2003 20:51:

note: for best results, listen to the sample while watching

Tell me you're joking about a Binary Finary vocal mix! That "Binary Refined" sample in Binary Refined was bad enough for me ;-). I would be curious, however, to know what they say in it (presuambly something about angels, flying, or castles in the sky ;-)).

And yeah that sample, uh... yeah... The biggest tragedy is that people will listen to it, say "so THIS is what trance is?" and never look back. Suck.

From www.mike.be/phpbb:
Posted by Yazper

quote:
Today I incidentally met Mike, and he asked me if I could post the whole story around this vocal version of the new Plastic Boy, since he felt a bit uncomfortable about it...

First of all, the - crappy - version you heard on that radioshow is NOT a genuine version! Rosalla made vocals to fit the tune, but the people at Inferno Records messed with it without Mike and BMG agreeing. So you're allowed to say that that vocal version sucks, Mike agrees with that, and most important, he had nothing to do with creating it!
However, Mike did use the vocals Rosalla made for Live Another Life, but he made sure they fit into the track, not at all like Inferno's child's play! The reason for that is acceptable: Rosalla is still a big icon, so Mike considered it an honour that she wrote lyrics for a tune of his. And, maybe the most important part, Vocal Trance sells nowadays, and even an artist like Mike has to grab every possible opportunity to make money. So the vocal version has a commercial side, but Mike felt it was worth a try, and putting excellent vocals on an excellent tune, who could disagree with him?

So basically, we shouldn't worry about that crappy vocal version, Mike and BMG will make sure it never gets played again! And yes, there will be a Vocal version of Live Another Life, but according to Mike it's gonna be much much better, and who are we to doubt that? That version does not mean he's selling out or trying to gain easy money. It's just a new domain of the market he's trying to target, and he felt that this tune combined with those vocals could do the job...

And last but not least, he also said this: "If you don't like this new vocal version, just listen to the original version. There's no point in calling me names or losing faith in me. I will continue making awesome music for you real Mike-fans, don't worry about that. Just don't let this incident change your view on me as an artist!"

So, I hoped I cleared things up a bit, my advice is: let's not judge Mike untill we heard the actual official Vocal version, and let's not look at him diferentely now, he's still our #1 producer

that should clear things up

Posted by chris_norris on Sep-04-2003 21:03:

I dont want to listen to this, but curiosity will prevail I'm sure.

It sounds wank.

Usually in these threads you get at least one or two people saying it's not that bad with the vocal and it sounds ok.

That is not the case here...

I've heard that vocal version of Binary Finary, Radio 1 keep playing it, I'm warning you now - it's SHITE.

Posted by Christopher B on Sep-05-2003 00:22:

In spite of popular belief, these lyrics do not mean the world is coming to an end, or that trance is forever ruined. However, I do not like them one bit

Somehow these two comments don't mix well...

Posted by Rostros on Sep-05-2003 08:03:

it sounds like one of those nasty bootlegs that some scally has just put an accapella over a decent track, I imagine that adding a vocal to a track such as Live Another Life would be very hard unless your Paul Van Dyk, Dave Pearce was ok when i saw him 3 years ago, prob coz i was wasted on the dancefloor, i dont think he is really respected and therefore should quit and be a roadsweeper

Posted by Ghostface on Sep-05-2003 08:46:

thanks for the info. It was obvious something had gone wrong somewhere.

you're right

plus, if i understand correctly, these are still the vocals/lyrics that will be used for the official vocal version, only they will be mixed into the track much better..

so basically this means:

1. crappy lyrics
2. putting vocals on top of a tune that is clearly produced in a style that is not meant to have vocals
3. sell-out

quote:

yazper's comment made me feel a little better now, but i must admit i had lost faith in mike for a moment after that story of his site admin.. yet i can't help feeling this "new" vocal version will be crap as well, as i can't imagine any type of female vocals fitting into the original.. so in that perspective, i'm still rather disappointed, but i guess i can't come to a conclusion without hearing it.. i know he's a great producer, but i am a bit hesitant towards a vocal version..
