woah, can't believe I didnt noticed this thread...

Hmmmm, I agree that both men are quality producers - but in saying that VdM's works are more 3-dimensional and that Tiesto's are not is something that I can't understand. He's remix of FLESH 2002 is multi-deminsional as a track could get - not only that, but each channel of layers flow PERFECTLY with one another - the bassline as the blueprint, while the harmony, riffs, and Jan's voice respond to it in extremely tasteful fashion. Blew me away the first time I heard it - IMO, I would probably consider this the PERFECT remix.

I'm not a Tiesto fanboy [even though Traffic is a quality production, it does not appeal to me] but I must say that Tiesto's productions are definitely more innovative and more creative. Look @ Nyana - taking the roots and fundamentals of trance and making it sound fresher than ever. Yes, there are traces of the old formula but he takes it and applies it to a whole new level. How? By not being so typical and DARES to add and create sounds/instruments that are not considered "epic" ...
Crystal Clouds - f00kin ch00n indeed, but in terms of innovation - theres not much. However, I really do like the "addiontal works"... The really funky bassline in Track 1 combined with that ever so calming melody provides a very good contrast - good stuff indeed.

IMO, the typical uplifting Dutch sound has been perfected, and its time to move on, Tiesto is JUST only one of THOSE who are trying to push the scene to higher possiblities...

also, J00F ownz!!!

heres an idea.........um no!

im stating my view and saying i am sooo sick of some people on this board slagging tiesto for every little thing he does it doesnt matter to them at all, they dont care they just want to try and be cool and jump on the bandwagon.

now i fully admit that i took it out of purportion and i apologise fully for all the caps and the cursing. again im sorry for this!

And i have to say that vincents new track is total garbage u think this guy produces better tracks that tiesto! imo vincents new one sounds very very amateurish and bland with no excitment wot so ever to it.

Again people i totally apologise for my outburst been a looooong ass day just so im sorry

me grow up? why dont you grow up. just because i said something you object to, i am a child. i dont consider my response childish, and i said some of those tracks, and can you please point out in my post where i bashed tiesto? i cant find that part. when i know of those tracks you listed, since i dont have the others on vinyl, is that wiht urban train he did it with kid vicious, as it CLEARLY states on the vinyl, and obsession and magik journey were done with geert huinink, so why dont you grow up, and respond without crazy outburst because someone said something about your beloved tiesto. i like dj tiesto too, so fuckin chill.

Ya gotta remember that Tiesto is kinda goin' back a few years. I'm not trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about because i only just found out about his album "In My Memory", but since i checked out his DC i realised that there have been SOOOOOOO many more original tracks since then.

My theory is:

Listen to music and dont worry about who's better.

I reckon a lot of people on this site have more potential than Tiesto himself, its just the simple fact that in this year, 2003, it is so damn hard to come up with something original.

neverending debate!

Balleric Bill "destination sunshine" (tiesto POWER mix)

BTW this thread is fucked because it just comes down to personal taste.

Or because you keep repeating yourself...

Or maybe because you keep repeating yourself?

Yes, opinions it definitely is, and in my opinion Vincent is a more talented producer. He seems to be able to produce great tracks with an amazing consistency.

Mmmmm... Melodic-ness...

I'd say that de Moor is the better of the two.

For example, Green Heaven is structurally quite similar to countless other melodic tunes, but does the basic sections in its own authentic way without typical drum and synth formulas etc.

VDM's tunes are also energetic, as if it was trance with the drive of house music. For example, Between 2 Fires and Worlds Of Doubt are tracks that I hate but still respect. Tiesto's Flight 643 is also energetic, but I prefer VDM's particular melodic style.

There may have already been a few near-perfect melodic tracks from the Dutch masters (like VDM's Green Heaven), but the Dutch sound still has life in it. I'm not sure, but it often sounds like most releases were made in a day or something. If the producers had used many weeks to improve their sounds and tune structure, they might have been in the same league as VDM, instead of stalling to pre-2000 sound. Tiesto has moved away from the basic melodic style, but similar innovative experiments have been made within Dutch melodic trance. Like VDM - No Hesitation , for example.

WHAT A TUNE!

VDM is the man!

I dont care who's better than who so unfortunately I cannot agree nor disagree with you

Listening to VDM's material, I feel that
my musical tastes and experiences "grow"
while with DJ Tiesto, I just hear his
music, and think to myself "okay ...not bad.
Cool. Okay"

With Paul Oakenfold, his stuff is beyond
Tiesto's ... more interesting and ground
breaking.

If I had to pick between the two, I feel
Oakenfold outclasses Tiesto ... but Tiesto
is much more the "showman" live in concert,
vs. Oakie.

A silly comparison if you ask me! Their styles are too different.

artsy-fartsiness 101

Oakey's stuff more groundbreaking? Perhaps if you said that ten years ago that would be a valid statement, but in the 21st century Tiesto IS the avant-garde in trance, especially in the movements that are dominated by the Dutch sound. Hands down, no competition.
