Wink Wrap it up...

So the point is...

Your religion doesn't determine what genre of music you like. Music has no boundaries...
But the lifestyle represented by some genres (and I'm not pointing the finger at Trance necessarily) is not conducive to the Christian lifestyle, be it drug use or illicit behaviour that could come out of that particular music scene.
I still love trance, I just don't do drugs or other "rave" related things.
Same can be said about any music...

I stand by my original statement, however those threads really go deserve an honourable mention. Top 3 for sure!

i rather listen to techno than believe that a man can walk on water

If thats the case then your not a christian. A christian is a person who beleives and follows the ways of Jesus Christ, hence the name CHRISTian. Hmmm... coincidence?? Don't think so. As far as the people who are "born catholic" but don't believe, then you're not a christian either. Sorry for the bursting of your bubbles but that's not just my opinion, thats the truth.

As far as this discussion goes... I'm a christian and I listen to trance more than anything. I mean, it's music people. It doesn't affect our religious views, and if it does, your putting a little too much into your music. No doubt some songs have bad messages, "I am the light that Shines... Follow Me. Children of the night, step into the light... Follow Me. Come, come from out the shadows into the light... Follow Me! Come from out of the darkness... It's a paradise...Follow Me!" - Space Frog-Follow Me. But I'm sure you can find five songs with bad messages from other genres for every song with an equally bad message in some sort of sub-genre of electronica. So it's not really that big of a deal. And if you can really let a song sway your religious beliefs, your not only naive, but you never really believed that strongly in the first place.

Thats exactly what I said.
Couldn't agree more.

I call myself an Evangelical Christian but I don't like techno at all.

This has nohing to do with my religion it's just that I find it very monotonous and repetitve (guys like Laurent Garnier and Carl Cox) don't interest me at all..

Whenever you hear techno sound i dont think you will feel liek it would be played in heaven, more liek hell... you hear techno u think robots, metal boxes and such, def not somethng in heaven

Posted by malon-e on Nov-18-2003 06:35:

Jester

One of the best producers out there, Andy Hunter, is a hardcore christian. He uses the music to help bring people closer to God. Honestly, I think trance is the closest music there is to God because its so heavenly. Wow that was a cheesy line.

Oops, my bad, UnBracKo, sorry

erh... being an urban person, my definition of "perfect heaven" is pretty much closer to having robots playing electronic music in an abandoned factory than to living in a forest listening to birds singing and angels playing the flute

As for "the presence of God", I won't talk about it because I'm not a Christian and my opinion on the subject is not necessary here

Christians don't listen to techno?

That's a load of crap Fer feck's sakes, there's a such thing as CHRISTIAN TECHNO I myself have looked into doing some one of these days Anyone who thinks techno is the devil's music... it says NOTHING about that in scripture! As was said before, it's only really the Satanic metal crap (which isn't exactly pleasing to the ear anyway ) that Christians like yours truly avoid.

yeah I'm going to have to second that... it probably has less to do with the fact that they are Christians and more to do with the fact that Techno SUCKS

im christian..and guess what last sunday i was at a party Sven Vath spinning...Carola is next this sunday

Posted by smokeape on Nov-19-2003 00:42:

Cryo you can kiss my f-cking ass. My comment was right on line with the thread. How can you talk about trance being non-Christian or not relevant to any religious sect. That's like calling blacks n-ggers. You can't stereotype music with religion. And that's that. Don't get me started, I'm fueled up with a few drinks.

I'm christian and I listen to Trance practically even day.

Heh, even got a couple of friends (same region) into the stuff to ... Got them started up with ISOS 1,2 and 3 and all of ATB's albums... they don't seem to mind one bit

CKYTEP nice theory about Moby, cool!

Anyway,

My neighbours are christians and once I visited them about 5 years ago they listened and sang tunes like hosanna, hosanna, hosanna..the king of israel...also shout shout joyfully...crap like that. I also have to mention they're fanats...even sugar is from satan for them.

And now if I listen to techno with my windows opened and so that they also can hear it, they get strange reactions, and it's really cool to see how they react - they get scared or something like that...or unpleasent.
And if I go outside they look at me like I'm the devil itself. Not to talk about the stareing if I have a smoke or a drink in my hand. This is really annoying, they're the freaks not me.

Maybe we should start a fond or a web page that makes techno more avaiable to christians and promotes it. Ehheee. Something like that: Pray with techno, let techno touch your soul, let techno guide you to god, do you feel the power of god in techno, turn up the techno & pray....muahahahahaa

Dispite I don't believe that heaven exists, techno is the most melodic and heavenly thing for me.

I also think that it's sick to use music to bring people to god. I don't like these fanats who do anything to tell the message of god. I think that music should be done for music not for...whatever.

By the way, what the fu*k is christian techno???

Yes mate, but that isn't techno. That's fluffy trance that anyone can like. Techno is fucking heavy, and its hardly even music (although it is brilliant).

Trance is not techno. My mum likes some trance. Trance tops the charts and gets played on the radio. Techno is killer, and I'd agree that Christian's are unlikely to listen to it, cos its so aggressive.

Again another total misconception.. Techno is not all about bangin beats and hard music.. Good techno is a combination of all the elements, Trippy floaty synths, Funky bass lines and clever drum patterns.

Again the question has to be asked.. WHAT THE FUK HAS SOMEONES RELIGION GOT TO DO WITH THE MUSIC THEY LIKE????????

This is a fuking annoying subject and its about time it disappeared!

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Nov-19-2003 17:56:

I'd argue, but as you have a Meganite sig, I see you know what you are talking about.

The tough thing is that "techno" is such a generalisation two people can mean totally different things by it. The techno I listen to is pounding an aggressive though.
