It's possible that he hadn't in fact done it yet, but was considering it. Who knows, he might have been reaching out, hoping to find someone to talk to, yet all he got were people making snide remarks and jokes for the first couple of replies.

Either way, I think that there are enough reasons NOT to joke about it.

As displeasured some of you might be, im happy about his situation. He recovered from depression and a life of drugs and no future. Even though some of you are unhappy about applz not "doing it", im happy that he didn't do it and im glad he recovered.

From what I understand, he never intended to do 'it' in the first place, the entire thing was a joke

What the fuck MERTON? What the hell kind of comment is that? Is that what you want someone to say about you?! I admit, when I first saw the thread, I wasn't sure if anotherway was kidding, but I even asked "is he serious" and "what was that he took" or something to that effect. I did make a comment about why would he say goodbye to his mom on the internet, because that didn't make sense to me, and it kind of still doesn't.

But that's besides the point. The point is, if someone needs help, we should offer it. Maybe this guy had serious problems and he just needed someone to listen, and we just blew him off. A lesson should be learned from this, regardless of aplz's case.

IMO anyone who would make fun of someone for this is an asshole.

Joke or not you don't know, you don't have the right to assume someone is joking and make fun of him/her when they might very well be for real and your insensitivity pushes whatever hesitancy hey had out of their minds.

For some people perhaps they feel they can only talk about their problems in an anonymous fashion on TA, for many people it could be a form of help. It is a way to talk to people about problems you might be hesitant to admit to people who might judge them IRL.

I just don't find any humor in the situation.

i take it u werent around for aplz's alleged suicide..thats why most ppl were hesitant to help at all...ppl poured out there hearts to this guy and meanwhile he was behind his screen going hehe look at me i fooled them all..looke they actually care...so fuckin right we'd be hesitant about doint the same thing for a third time...we tried to just blow it off... thankfully i made this thread..and if the suicide didnt work at least now he knows we do care and that a post on here which this post was actually indirectly made for would relieve our worries...

Posted by Orbax on Nov-27-2003 04:05:

I guess Im an asshole then

Posted by sym on Nov-27-2003 04:07:

Ya I wasn't directly involved in the aplz incident and have only heard of it from others, didn't actually see the thread I dont think but regardless don't punish others for what he did. If aplz made another thread than I would say it's fair game to say he's joking again but even than I don't know.

Suicide is a very serious topic and even if aplz did make another thread I think I would still try and console him. I dont know, I just couldn't take the chance of it being serious and assume it was a joke....

I understand where you are coming from though...

Sleepinol is the same as Benadryl (Diphenhydramine
) apparently an antihistamine.

"If the patient survives the first 24 hours, the chance of survival is likely. Few patients actually die from an antihistamine overdose (see antihistamines - oral, antihistamines and decongestants - oral)."

Maybe he's okay and is just home visiting his family for thanksgiving.

I was a bit harsh perhaps, perhaps insensitive would be a better fit, although you seemed concerned in this thread. It was more directed towards people who still are like I hope he did it etc.

Think of it this way: What if you were really depressed and considering suicide and you decided to post on TA since you feel apart of the community. Would you want everyone jumping into the thread with nothing but insults and humorous things to say? Or would you want people to actually try and be sympathetic towards you...

Just something to think about I guess..

Hence my comment in my post above regarding MERTON.

if you cant tell from my avatar im not a likely candidate for Suicide hehe. Ah well. If it were me I would have laughed at my arm flinging comment, but Im also the same guy who, when a girl was crying because shes had an abortion and her mom put her into an orphanage as soon as she was born (this caused angst) I (blazingly toasted and dancing to Mutant Turtles II..or III I cant remember the Ninja Rap song by Vanilla Ice) started humping her head (she was on her knees crying) and had one leglifted off the ground.

She started laughing and it was all good.

Hehe, it's good you can make light of a situation like that make her laugh. One of the problems though is sometimes it's hard to tell online when someone is trying to make you laugh or if they are being an asshole. You would hate for someone in that state of mind to take it the wrong way and push him over the edge...

Quite frankly, I don't think that you should worry about looking like an idiot. No one is going to laugh at you if it turns out that it was a fake/joke. Quite the opposite in fact, I would assume that people would be annoyed at the thread starter.

Even is aplz DID take the stigma away/desensitize people, we still need to assume that a suicide thread IS real, and under no circumstances make light of the situation, or joke around. WHen something such as someones life is at stake, you can't take the risk and hope people wont take a joke the wrong way.

As for METRON, you sir, are a moron. How the hell do you know he was ready to die?

Do you know him in person, did he TELL you he was ready to die?

I interpret him posting a thread like that as reaching out; wanting someone to talk to. It has nothing to do with ego, and we should have been MUCH more supportive when he made that thread. Once again; suicide isn't funny.

Too much ego on yourselves? Make sense please.

And if you don't have anything worthwhile to say, shut the fuck up. Go be a retard in one of the other millions of threads, not this one.

Just because you don't know the person doesn't mean their life isn't important.

I can't believe some people.

Other than that, I really can't think of anything else we can do :/

I live near Los Angeles, CA and it seems like he lives in the general area. If you guys find his number or address, I'll see what I can do.

If you do want to pay him a visit, you would probably need to pm Swamper or Neo (Basically someone who has access to the ip logs, and knows how to trace effectivly).
