Because it takes time for the Star to fly up and enlarge and for all the effects to occur. He wanted to beat the game as quickly as possible.

I want to see him beat the game without whistles, now.

Nobody could do the whole game in one run without fucking up a *lot*.. Alot of the levels that he skipped are more difficult than the ones he played and there is a hell of a lot more of them (probably 6 or 7 times more work)...

Well I don't know if you guys noticed, but the video is fast forwarded a bit. He accelerates too fast to run, and when he presses Down on the white block in level 3, he goes behind the objects a three or so seconds too early.

Trust me, I tried it on my NES the other day. I bet it actually took him closer to 15 minutes or so to beat it. Cheapo.

Here's a clip of a guy completing Contra in 13 minutes.

Contra done in 13 min

Contra, is that aka Probotector or something here in Europe? I think Contra was the American (or Japanese maybe) name..

Anyway, would be cool to see more videos like these. Anyone got any or know where to find some?

He used an emulator not the actual NES I think. And also, seeing as he's japanese aren't there differences between NTSC and PAL?

That was the "Konami" code, because it worked in a bunch of games made by Konami (gradius, contra, etc.)

...sounds to me that a lot of TA are former NES-addicts

I did, in the start it is fast forwarded and the he slows it down in the latter stages. I don't understand how no one who has seen that video noticed that though, it amazes me. But hey that is a great feat he has achieved. Its not easy to play that game and finish it like that.

Yeah I noticed that too, however, it was more than likely because he was using an emulator, and the differences in speed of a PC and the original NES are far different, thus causing the game to play faster then it would on the normal system.

It's actually due to shitty emulators. If you compared the speed of today's average PC (even if it was shit) to the original NES, Mario should be able to run across the level in like a second lol.

It's like saying the faster a computer gets, the faster the game runs. If the computer is fast enough or faster than it needs to be, the game should run at the intended speed and not faster.

I stand corrected.

Yeah, because I played that on my NES, and I was like, mario doesn't go through the map that fast.

Nevertheless, we all know he owned that game, no matter how fast he was really going.

I'm trying to get my Super Mario Bros. video up shortly, I just need to get over to my friends house who has video capture thingies.

haha wicked

The other day I beat it for fun, but it took me like an hour and half because of some stupid flukes I kept dying at King Koopa (Bowser). I literally sat there for an hour and tried to beat him over and over and over...

Posted by DJ Lac on Dec-01-2003 16:02:

ya even if it was fast.. look at the skill he went through.. he just ran across like he was on acid lol.. He never got hit once and never resisted to staying one spot cuz of a fireball or some block.. he just went through it lol. I say he's crazy..

Not to mention those mad one ups he got lol

Posted by Zombie14 on Dec-01-2003 16:27:

Posted by whiskers on Dec-02-2003 04:27:

for the record, i have never beaten mario on nintendo, and i mentioned that when we were at my mom's friend's house, so one of the twins there quickly 'beat' the game in about 15 minutes... the levels just restarted with different characters (the ones that show up in worlds 7 & up) being present in the first world.
