I know we've talked about it before through private messages how we're both girls who are soo passionate about this shit it determines almost everything we do. i love when someone can capture in languid terms what music means to them. get this i've already cried over ultra 6 about 3 times while listening to marco v's i feel you, lol. Along with that my blue Oakenfold shirt is on the way. I am so ready to let everything out. music lets all the emotions out, it lets me say the words i've never said to anyone, and leaves me satisfied as no one could

Heh my bad I'll edit my post again

-NOn EDM albums and songs-
Lamb- Gorecki is probably one of the most stirring trip hop songs i have ever heard.
Postal Service-Give Up(whole album)
Pharcyde-Running away
Electronic- Getting away with it
New Order -Thieves like us
RadioHead-everything in its right place
i could go on but that would be boring.Nice to see there are others like me who are open minded to all kinds of music and don't pigeonhole themselves to one type and hate on others because of there likes and dislikes. But hey everybody has an opinion and if we didn't the world would be quite boring.

Posted by SpykeChyld on Jan-02-2004 22:05:

Everything In It's Right Place is amazing...Have you ever heard the cd "The Live Recordings"? That song live...wow! And Like Spinning Plates played on a piano...chills every time!

But I just realized that the name of this thread is "EDM" so I think we might have gotten off topic, lol.

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Jan-02-2004 22:09:

So getting back on EDM.Spyke have you been listening to Jungle for awhile? If you can find it Foul Play- Music Is The Key is just about the best vocal D'n'b track i have heard besides Cleveland Lounge - drowning.Freaky Flow plays that track alot if you can find his obscene underground cd or can find that song on a p2p check it out.Or i'll bring a copy if i go to AK

Posted by ex-dj on Jan-02-2004 22:18:

Funny how a thread called EDM has turned to discussing what non-EDM songs we like.. but hey, I'll toss in my 2 cents.
A few rock songs I can think of that are emotional for me are:
Pearl Jam - Black
Pearl Jam - Release
Jimmy Eat World - Hear Me You
Incubus - The Warmth
Only hip-hop song that managed to stir up any emotion for me was Bone Thugz & Harmony - Tha Crossroads... heh
Other good groups: 311, Sublime, Linkin Park, STP and other than that I listen to a lot of instrumental stuff.

Posted by RachUCF1001 on Jan-02-2004 22:27:

These are just some all time non-edm favorites:
Bush-Glycerine
DEFTONES. <> they just rock-Period.
****U2****-ALL I Want Is You, With or Without U, Streets Have No Name, One,New Years Day (Im obsessed with old skool U2 omg)
Peter Gabriel-In Your Eyes
Smashing Pumpkins- Luna, Soma.. hell, the whole Siamese Dream album!
Pearl Jam-Alive, Black, Daughter
Nirvana-Lithium
STP-Plush
Stabbing Westward- Shame!
Duran Duran-Come Undone, Ordinary World
And 80's! ( for ex: Crowded House- Hey Now, hey now...{don't dream its over..}!!!!!) heheh
I could go on for here for hours but I shall refrain hehheheh.. I love so much music!

And right on Slacker with New Order,Radiohead and Lamb!

Sorry Jes , my mistake babe about who brought the thread back-- you rock! You are so cute!!!!!!!!!- don't cry!!! Are you not able to go to Ultra?!?!?

james----------- PEARL JAM- BLACK OMf'n God lollllllll

Posted by ex-dj on Jan-02-2004 22:40:

Awesome, Smashing Pumpkins - I was a big fan back in high school, Siamese Dream & Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness are great, then whatever they did after that sucked.
Duran Duran - Ordinary World as well, forgot about that one... I got the Aurora remix on vinyl
Check out that Jimmy Eat World song if you haven't heard it, it's totally unlike the ones they play on the radio.

Lightbulb

I can't really say non-edm songs have touched me. I am a became a EDM freak August 02 and just dont care or listen to anything ,well there is Video Game songs that really touched me. But this thread is so Awesome Rach

Posted by ex-dj on Jan-03-2004 00:10:

Yes! VGM!! Yasunori Mitsuda & Nobuo Uematsu - 2 of the greatest composers of our time IMO.
my bro writes some good VGM as well

Posted by SpykeChyld on Jan-03-2004 00:40:

OMG...how could I have forgotten The Smashing Pumpkins!

Bullet With Butterfly Wings is one of my favorite songs...it's so amazing! I wish I could have seen them live before they broke up. When the Pumpkins and Rage broke up seriously got depressed for a while!

Glycerine also gives me chills. As does nearly every Deftones song everymade, as Rach said!

I have a 2 cd set I have burned I titled "Emotional Aggression" that has some Tool, Deftones, Manson, Korn, Pumpkins...

Marilyn Manson...I forgot him too...he has so much emotion, i've heard a live set from him that stunned me completely!

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Jan-03-2004 00:46:

Manson always sounded like a bastardized amalgam of Skinny puppy and N.I.N.Except not done as well...all shock not enough rock for me.Now front 242 there was a great industrial dance group as was Skinny puppy before the deaths and drug addictions. But i have to agree about the Deftones, quite possibly the best of all this "nu- metal genre".Be Quiet & Drive(far away) is my favorite of theirs.

Awww yes!! .. I dont know how I could have let pass this thread so much time. FInally, I have the time to really describe what this music is all about. Rachel just hit the nail with it.- Ive always had this feeling that I couldnt describe with this certain type of music. Call it new age, call it hi-nrg, call it dance.. it was early 90's. Depeche mode influence, along with new order and the cheese bandwagon of eurodance.- I still felt like something was missing. I dont know.. I was constantly lurking for my music. Went through the alternative, rock, .. and the worst of all.. hip hop.- Until late 98.I found it. The most perfect form of electronic dance music. Trance..to downtempo, to the blistering Goa sounds. This is the type of music that really connected me to everyone else around me, jumping and dancing with joy, lost with the beats of the music, and the melody. Mutual and spiritual connection. Its that one feeling that I deeply enjoy, and that just a few can aprecciate and find.- From then on, I felt as I was from some other world. No one could then on understand my apreciation for this music. Yes, everyone else is involved with that MTV and radio hits stuff. Everywhere I go, the mall, parties, and so on.. those were my friends, yes, but I could not share that feeling, nor make them understand EDM. Nonetheless, I still tried to educated, and at least stop the ignorance tours this form of music. Known as the " techno music", " same stuff music", druggies music" and such.. w/e. Pisses me off. So yes, its great to have a TA community, that its now growing in faster, and more unified way. Its great, the people, the vibe, the atmosphere. YES, Tranceheads are nicer then anyone else out there> I hope that this never changes. Anyways.. yes. EDM is one of the best things that could have happened to me. I could not see or think what would've been of me without finding it, or understand this music.

Anyways.. yes, this community rocks, and I just hope that it never changes, but to grow better, and happier.

Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you dont live it, it wont come out of you. To appreciate the great, you must also appreciate the bad.
Dont get me wrong, music is my life, trance espically, but i also love other genres, even some classical, take William Orbit for instance, where would he be without Samuel Barber?

"Music is harmony, harmony is perfection, perfection is our dream, and our dream is heaven." Amiel

Dude your so right about these 2 guys. Now I love FF 4-7 has some the best songs that I ever heard before. FF8 was okay and FF9 was wakc. Now FF 10 had Mr. Uemats but I like this new person they added to make The FF 10 music which is Junya Nakano. Dont know much about this person. And Yasunori Mitsuda will own me forever for that fuckin killer Soundtrack for Chrono Trigger, that aren't words to explain the beauty of music quatily. I suggest anyone who can get there hands on Chrono Trigger should check it out. It one those classic albums.

Well that all and Earthbound by Nintendo was cool and funny

Well thats my jointz Peace

OMG, I wish more and more people would like EDM. I mean, I don't see any reason not to like it. The elements of this music category simply radiate their beauty onto your eardrum. There is so much flow, so much movement, so much iridescent melodies that shift from one phase to another.

Except EDM, I also listen to rock/metal (although 90% of the time it is EDM). I can see why some people do not like it, but what is wrong with EDM?????????

For me EDM, particularly trance, became an addiction. Sometimes, I desperately need to listen to trance or I will suffer. This music became an integral part of me. Before EDM, listened to rock/metal mostly. Then one of my friends IM'ed me Take Me Away by DJ Kosmonova. And so I started listening to House first, then I moved to techno and ended up listening to trance. Now, it is the music that I listen to all the time. I enjoy its sheer beauty and melodic luminousity.

Please, promote EDM. Introduce it to everyone that you know. Do not let those people lose this unbelievable experience.

Long live EDM, long live trance,

3xx3r7

I think the main thing that rocks about a lot of EDM is that even though some don't... Most producers/etc. have musical integrity and are really trying to push it forward and create something meaningful, not just something stupid that will bop heads on the radio. Though it can't be said for all...
