BTW, FASTDJMP3, don't expect any quality whatsoever from those MDR-CD280's when even many of Sony's expensive headphones suck!

I have a friend here where i live who is a dj.. he plays alot and is telling me ALL THE FUQIN TIME how good Headphones he got... well, i have no clue. but what do you think of SONY MDR-V700DJ ?. I think they sound alright, but i dont have any experience with real headphones.. so help me out here.

Well, xRaGx, it depends on the type(s) of music you listen to. The Sony MDR-V700DJ sounds okay with much of the music you trancEaddicts enjoy listening to most - but it SUCKS with classical and jazz on most equipment.

Yea, xragx, those headphones have the type of sound and the features that are great for trance DJ's, but, uh, useless and/or bad for anyone else. Oh, and if he's not using them for making trance, ie, he's using them for, like, listening, you can laugh at him, because his headphones suck. If you have $20 and not that many restrictions for the type of cans you want, you can buy something that will slaughter his headphones in sound quality (ie, be the David to his Goliath). Just answer all of the questions I asked of other people in this thread if you want my advice.

Judging by the type of sound purchases you all tend to make, uh, I wouldn't be surprised if you LIKE a lot of stuff that most audiophiles don't, as you haven't developed an ear for good sound. Fortunately, it's quite easy to do...especially when you are interested in headphones, because, you know, you only have to pay $15 for headphones that sound _REALLY_ good (IE, better than ANY product Bose has EVER made, and, they sound better than all but a few models of Sony headphones [the mdr-v6, the mdr-7506, the mdr-cd1700, the mdr-cd3000, the mdr-r10, the mdr-ex70, the mdr-888 are the ones that sound better]), ASSUMING you don't have very stringent requirements.

For example, if you didn't mind small headphones that leak sound and clip on your ears and don't block any sound, you can get the best sounding set of headphones under $60, and you can get them for $15 if you shop around; they are the Koss KSC-35's.

Oh, and the REASON me an Shady like koss so much is that they make the BEST CHEAP ASS HEADPHONES THAT DON'T SUCK! Now, if you all had a bit more money, or fewer requirements for what you want, that would untie our hands a bit more...

Alright, if you want something that is cheap, blocks outside sound, doesn't leak sound, is cheap, sounds greathas a lot of bass, is comfortable, and stays on your ear.

The only problem? They're small, really small.

They are in-your-ear-canal earbuds; they are the Sony MDR-EX70, and you can get the right version of them (there are three versions) cheaply HERE:

These would be PERFECT for you, except for the fact that they're earbuds. Remember when I was talking about sacraficing "big" headphones to get all of your other criteria? I was talking about these.

Also, when I was talking about sacraficing blocking sound to get your other criteria, I was talking about the Koss UR-20's. They are big closed headphones that don't leak that much sound, and sound okay, and only block a little bit of sound. Those sound worse than the EX70's, though. Shadyslim said these would be good for you; at the very least, they'll sound better than most of the Sony line (including the V700DJ's; the UR-20's get deeper bass then those.)

Very true - except for Koss The Plug, which IMHO should have been called "Koss The POC"! (That's right - "POC" means "Piece Of Crap".) The Plug has too much bass, crappy bass, recessed mids, a very sharp peak in the mid-treble with the rest of the treble VERY recessed!

DON'T BUY "THE POC"!!!!

earbuds hurt me i can't put them for more than 5 minutes , they are really pain in the ear

Geez, man, sorry to hear that. Yea, get the Koss UR-20's (get the UR-30's if you need something that folds [they sound worse than the 20's, though]) and start saving up for something better...

DJ Juno: Those Technics are among the better DJ headphones on the market. However, for music listening, they sound decent, but their performance-to-price ratio is mediocre.

As i said before.. i dont know much about headphones. BUT! Koss make the most ugly headphones ive ever seen. They just look so damn retarded. Sure, they may sound good but.. WEAK design..

and for a separate pair for listening to trance, rock and rap from a Sony Diskman or Rio MP3 player.

And hell if one exists, a happy medium between beatmatching and everyday use.

the Sony MDR-V700 have a design flaw.......on the hear peace where it attackes to the headpiece the plastic cracks very easily i think the bass sound levels are kinda distored as well...... definatly not worth the price

*chuckles* for listening to trance, rock, and rap? with slightly exaggerated bass? I'd say you should get a Grado SR-80...THOSE are trance LISTENING headphones if there ever was one...talk about your impacting bass!! Plus, they look cool too (they look like you got them out of a WWII bomber, which is just so damn cool!)

Hey, those Technics look GREAT for DJ monitoring.... But, for that type of sound, I wouldn't use em for anything else if I could get away with it... and you're paying ALL THAT MONEY for those features....Those headphones are for the specialist, not the listener...

I know what you're talking about as to bass distortion. The V700DJ claims to have a maximum power-handling capacity of 3,000mW - but when you feed it full-range music that has a lot of low bass, that claim is FALSE. And some headphones claiming to have a maximum power-handling capacity of "only" 100mW can actually handle more power than that "pessimistic" claim as far as full-range music power is concerned.

Thus, for all practical purposes, for FULL-RANGE music listening, MOST headphones have a REAL maximum RMS power-handling capacity of between 400mW and 450mW. I had read an article about this in some unknown publication (I completely forgot its name). Unfortunately, some of the very best-sounding audiophile headphones have a relatively wimpy power-handling capacity of 80mW. (Note that all power figures are per channel.)

Grado's can take a lot of juice...hell look at Apheared (long story), and, of course, the best listening-to-trance headphones on God's Green Earth are the Grado SR-325...

Sony's newest headphones look THE COOLEST... But their sound quality ranges from MEDIOCRE to AWFUL!

You may be right. All of those people we had been trying to "convert" are DEFINITELY stuck in a world of BASS--the boomier and muddier, the better! And as for those V700DJ lovers, they're sticking with their guns, no matter how boomy, muddy and flimsy those V700DJ's are!
