define 'normal' trance

when you think about it, every track pulls itself more to one
of the subgenres of its genre than the other, hence 'normal'
is really hard to define IMO.

robbie rivera is hard house if you ask me, or at least his sets are
hard house as of recently.

US House? wtf. whats US house? house was made in US, so i dont get
this. try Morillo's subliminal sessions, pretty funky to me. he does
throw in a dash of tribal, some acid house, some techier stuff, but
his strong points are deep and funky, soulfull house. check out his
livesets

Electro could almost branch off Breakbeat since most of the time the beat is a breakbeat... but I'm not sure.

us house= choo choo romero,morillo,who da funk,david morales,frankie knuckles

Deep Forest is Ambient. I think Deep Forest was considered as a subgenre of ambient some years ago acutally.

What exact genre is Underworld btw?

I know in every trend on TA about genres of trance, this has been brought up and debated about, but your missing 'Cybertrance'

I know this type of trance hasn't been popular in europe or whatever since the mid 90s, but it's a real genre and here in the western us our 'cybertrance' movement is the core of our trance scene.

Cybertrance artists are like Mars, Mystre, Dyloot, Tom Slik.. Artists that command audiences that rival international/popular artists when they spin at events here in the western us.

quote:
MARS: The cybertrance movement is based on the 1994-96 Frankfurt beat scene. ... First of all, cybertrance and mostly dance music on a whole is still very premature. It's young, it's not all it could be and not all it's going to be - I still think there's a lot of work to be done with it. ... Cybertrance, to me, is a virtual-reality trance - it's a trance that actually paints a picture through the use of sounds, similar to the music in the movie Fantasia. Basically, Fantasia is based off an orchestral piece - a flute is a bird, hard drums is a big elephant walking. Now that's a universal concept around the world - Cybertrance is able to paint a picture through sound. ... I believe the music is good and that's why it's becoming more and more popular.

I just quoted this from a interview of mars about his cybertrance genre pioneering. Mars is considered the pioneer of cybertrance in the new era,

I know this won't convince people, if any. Even though cybertrance based on a state-wide scene, I don't think this genre of trance is a fad, but one day mars' hardwork will be paid off and the cybertrance movement will be reconized world-wide.

I'm in LA, never heard of it. Dunno what it is, might be interesting though...

Posted by DigitalMP on Mar-11-2004 06:56:

LMAO. It funny to watch the arguments that ensue. No, Robbie Rivera is NOT hard house, and yes, Bad Boy Bill is, and he sucks.

I swear, some of you would argue the sum of 2+2 if this was a math forum.

Robbie Rivera is Funky House. Definetley not hard house unless he changed his style recently.
Bad Boy Bill is Hard/Disco House maybe

you might not go to raves though.

in the california rave scene in general, mars and his fellow f-8 artists attract crowds of 10000+ at most of the raves they spin at. I guess that's why his music is so popular among ravers though, it's just great head candy.

Well, I'm from Chicago and I've heard Bad Boy Bill spin a few times. This guy is a legend, he's been doing it for 20 damn years and HE IS A GREAT DJ. No hard, no disco, no other bs...HOUSE and only HOUSE that was born here in Chicago. This is HOUSE.

well, somewhat contradicting myelf earlier, i'll say he does sometimes spin funky house, but he also spins hard house, and hard house annoys me. i won't go see him and take the chance of having to hear hard house.

so you, being from chicago, should know very well that some DJs spin cross-genre...ESPECIALLY house Djs.

Re: electro.

- It isn't (usually) breakbeat.
- It's got an old-school tech sound about it.
- Is enjoying a boom in tech and prog circles.
- Subgenres include electroclash (intentionally crass, 80s sounding stuff) and electrotech (which I just made up then - highlighting how easy it is to make up genres and how pointless these genre debates are).
- It's an electronic genre currently at the cutting edge of trendiness (everyone will be listening to it - or at least know what it is - in 12 months).
- If you haven't heard Silver Screen Shower Scene then there is no hope for you.

Any questions may be forwarded elsewhere.

He came out here last weekend and was suprisingly good. Has a pretty techy feel about him (from what I heard / can remember from in between my self-induced memory blanks) and is worth seeing if you get the chance.

As for his production style (and I'm basing this on "The Mission", "Loneliness" and his remix of "Pulverturm") I guess you could classify it as "progressive-clubby-house" - told you it was easy to make up genres.

someone poste da link to ishkur's guide, well here's another link to help you out, but you could say this is more organized
