they have to, because they will start getting fines and who wants to pay 5 grand everytime there is a smoker caught. i would rather them spend it on some good DJs.

that's right, i'm a princess! and that is always the answer "let them stay at home" but why should we stay at home, smokers should stay at home.

Finaly I CAN BREATH!!!!!

that is all

Cigarettes are one thing... what about smoke machines?
those are pretty fucking retarded as well.

I have to agree with the whole thing Tanya said about showering and stuff and then smelling like ass...htray.

quote:
if u dont want second hand smoke party outside
Are you fucking retarded? Why should people who want smoke-free air, party outside? If you haven't noticed, cigarette smoke disappates better in open-air areas.

Spyder: not yet you can... but soon.

Some of you guys must have some really weak lungs. A couple of my friends, who are non smokers, go to the Guvernment and never complain about how smokey it is. They'll first complain about how rammed it is. The only time I, or anyone else I know, had trouble breathing, was for Labour of Love 2002 and if anyone went to that, well you'll know what I"m talking about. But seriously...even when I "quit" smoking for a few weeks a year ago (hint: if you want to quit, make sure you take zyban for the perscribed period), I never felt I couldn't breath because of cigarette smoke. Those fucking fog/smoke machines they have on stage are a lot worse for comfort than a 100 smokers scattered in the building.

Smitty, quit yer bitchin'. The law is coming into form whether your nicotine-addicted ass likes it or not.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-01-2004 23:02:

Let it come into effect...i hate coming home with smoke filled clothes and I don't even smoke. Frankly I think smokers should care for others....not just themselves...it's us that inhales your cancer sticks with it's carcinogens and stuff. 2nd Hand smoke is twice as dangerous. This is just personal opinion BUT I've always thought smokers were a crazy breed for a few reasons, you know it is dangerous but you still smoke (addiction is tough I know) but you not only smoke in clubs but when you do, you hurt the lungs of others that have chosen not to smoke. I quit clubbing for many reasons for the time being and one of the reasons was the excessive smoke in nightclubs...I take my health seriously....if ppl want to shorten their lives by smoking...their call....but please..for those of us who plan to live long lives....spare us the crap. Note...this is just personal opinion...not intending to start a flame war.

Yeah, it is coming into effect and you'll see a lot of negative effects in the restaurant and bar scene in Toronto, just like what happened last time.

But that still doesn't change the fact that a lot of people on here are really good at whining about how smokey clubs are, when most people I know never bitch about it at all.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-01-2004 23:18:

weak lungs?

you must be on crack!, I swear...I don't think anyone should ever have to inhale that crap EVER. Weak lungs....bullshit...and we get lung cancer at age 40 and never smoked a day in our lives....pathetic init?

and there are many people who smoke and live until age 80, but that's not the point. I was just commenting on how whiney some people here are about it, even though they're getting their own way in a few months. But I don't think these complainers represent the majority of people who go to clubs...as I said, several of my friends who come to big events (but don't post here) NEVER complain about smokey clubs or me smoking in their presence. Maybe because they're not high strung....

How many people are you going to tell smoking is going to effect clubs and restarants, if they do let them figure it out, that to and will actually listen to you - "ZERO"

you cant tell other people what to do my friend.Dont Negate someone else point of view

And the other thing being that, they might be well aware of the situation and making some other plans for smokers.

BTW WHERE THE FUCK IS EL KAY DEE ?

so they don't complain...great...but ask them if they would prefer to have smoke there or not

I agree with others as well...I hate smoke machines and wish they weren't used or at least not be used as much as they are...that shit is nasty too.

I have asked them that and they said people who smoke have rights too and should be given a restricted area to smoke in. I've supported that from day one, but most municipalites (including London and Kitchener) have decided that all facilities must be totally smoke free, which isn't fair at all. It's really the whiney few that have attained their wish here...most people, I think, don't hate smokers with a passion.

Posted by Muff2K on Jan-02-2004 06:13:

i just came back from montreal...

they dont seem to have a problem with smoking anywhere, i wonder if they'll ever be faced with a no-smoking bylaw.

but smitty i agree with you that smokers should have a designated smoking area..

i believe the whole niagara region is smoke free in their bars/restaurants..

everytime we go there, we just have a smoke in the part of the bar that is designated for it, it's almost like being outside... only problem is that it gets so packed in there, u dont wanna smoke, + you cant dance out there either.

i think having a designated area for smoking is good in 2 ways..

1. let's smokers smoke
2. gets so rammed that it deters people smoke smoking at clubs because of the hassle to wait in line to have a fuckin cigarette...

good for toronto for finally passing this law.. now just get the federal gov't to make marijuana legal...

just to say.

whatever. i'll bitch about smoking in clubs if i fucking want to. i think it's disgusting and there is no reason that i should have to come home smelling like other people's smoke.

I'd be willing to bet that it's because they don't want to have to hear and respond to your ignorant views on the topic.

Edit: for the record, I'd just like to make clear to you Smitty that I don't mind designated smoking areas for smokers. All I care about is whether I'm affected. If you smokers want to go sit in a room FILLED with second hand smoke, where not only are you smoking a cigareete but also breathing in second hand smoke from everyone else, go right ahead.

Dear friends, my right to breathe fresh air supersedes your right to burn a camel.

I think that by reading this thread it was quite obvious that smokers aren't saying much. Although I may disagree with with your first sentance, your last one I do agree with.
I use to smoke all the time, morning, night evening, any excuse to have one, now not so much... I am pretty much what they refer to as a social smoker. So I've had the advantage of seeing this from all sides. I suppose that making all places smoke free would give me that extra kick I needed to be done with it all together. We all know the saying "Out of sight, out of mind!".
My opinion on the matter probably falls somewhere in the middle. I do agree that smokers and non-smokers shouldn't have to suffer for each other. There is a happy medium here, which could be met with compromise. Designated smoking rooms, closed off with complete seperate ventilation. Of course the size of these rooms, or enclosures should be left up to the owner, and the decision they make on who they would prefer as customers most.
The problem with society today is most people don't want to compromise, they want it their way. I have no problem trying to cram myself in a tiny little smoke infested room so non-smokers don't have to suffer the ills. But only if the owner wants the room this small, not because regulation says it can't be any bigger, because then I have to respect the fact that the owner is doing me a favour anyways.
I never viewed this issue as smokers against non-smokers, but more of a power struggle, between the guvt and citizens. There just baby steps right now, but there still steps. They are using us against each other, I believe Cesars words were "Divide and conqur". I think too many rights are being removed, I don't see why the gvt cannot compromise and come up with a reasonable solution for both

really? As if I care

I've hated smokers smoking near others who don't smoke. So I guess the argument will be that I don't have to put myself in that risk, then again I should be able to go out and have a fun time without putting my fucking health at risk. High Strung? Hell NO, just damn tired of smokers complaining that their right to smoke superceeds non smokers rights. You are told the hazards yet you choose to ignore them and pollute others, that's the issue here and always has been. If you want to smoke, that is YOUR RIGHT but when that right puts my health at risk then I fight back. So personally I cannot wait till the smoking ban is put into effect because it will sure make my lungs a lot clearer and healthier when I go out. It's about damn time that the city stood up for the rights of most ppl who do not smoke and don't want to breathe the carcinogens and toxic chemicals.

now i've said my piece.
