They put up a good fight with their cavalry....against tanks. It was a nasty business.

Originally posted by Dj Smitty20 well, you know...Hitler's Panzer divisions did manage to conquer Poland before Britain and France could even declare war.....ok, I'm exaggerating a bit. They put up a good fight with their cavalry....against tanks. It was a nasty business.

Originally posted by Dj Smitty20 this basically sums up the whole game. They didn't deserve to win...it's not like they totally outplayed our boys and got a a great tying and winning goal. Nope...they tied it and won it off two freaky, flukey goals that just make you shake your head. The Americans always seem to win that way. Oh well...we still have 10 golds compared to their one.
I guess we can say that fluery made that shot. Did you see marc fluery making that last goal? priceless, he just laid there for 4 seconds.
Mearly pointing out the obvious. No need to get your back up.

but how the hell did war and poland get in with Canada and hockey tho.

The first Russians came over in the late 70's and early 80's and they're still not as good as the Canadians in the NHL. Look at the Conn Smythe Trophy (for the most valuable player in the playoffs) and it's been won by Canadians all but two times. Once by an American and the other by a Russian.

Btw, look at the top scorers this season:
). In the mid 80's tho, halfway thru the year, the Great One was so far ahead of everyone that you basically could give him the art ross trophy.

Originally posted by Durafei I hate bringing it up again, but I just looked up who was the first Soviet player in the NHL. And it was: * Sergei Priakin for Calgary Flames in the 1988-89 season. Quite a lot of Soviet players have been drafted by NHL teams, but never got to play there, or arrived many years later. For example Fetisov was drafted in 78, but started playing only in 89. So yeah, you are right that Canadians have always dominated NHL, but one of the reasons was because Soviets didn't start playing till late 80s. Btw, look at the top scorers this season: Goals: Kovalchuk 1st, Datsyuk 3rd Assists: Gonchar 1st Again, sorry to bring it up again. Don't mean to offend anyone.
