Aria did some upgrades as well, and I was absolutely in AWE of the quality. I've never heard anything sound so good. It was orgasmic. Records that I'd play at home sounded like ones I'd never heard before - every little aural intricacy was audible.

I haven't heard Boa, but nothing in Toronto compared to what I heard at Aria. The only thing that I thought came close to the crispness of the sound was the basement of Element.

you would love stereo. If you could get over the house or prog that they would be playing, you would love the clientele and the sound. The clientele is older and gayer and glowsticks are not permitted, lighting is minimal. I like both aria and stereo tho, both amazing clubs.

My theory is that people are busy watching the Leafs. Wait till the playoffs and they will die and clubs are busy again

boa bought their system from stereo's sound dude (the guy that used to work @ twilo, soundmanshorty)

first of all it's BASS not BASE. and i said i was standing far away from the stack. like under the dj room. so what are you talking about?

if someone put a club together w/ great guest DJ's, great residents, and an amazing sound system like stereo's *swoon* ppl would come. You only get back what you put in. It also has to do w/ what ppl want- musically.

LOL. I was there at the sweaty Nick Warren Show too. Although it was hot I managed to stick it out for quite awhile... mostly because I was so curious to see what was under the pounds of pancake makeup that most of the female clientele (read:the ripper girls) were wearing. Dabbing their faces with napkins to try and prevent the loss of their faces in the heat was too good to miss. Immmmmmmm melting. I agree with your clientele comment ...I can do without the roids and their fake boobjob honeys. Most of them were asking the question..who is Nick Warren?...I am here for the atmos. *sigh* But if the club needs them to keep itself running and providing the dollars to allow for international DJs to enter its doors...I can dance around them. la la la.

You will keep me coming back to your bar if:
1) the music is the focus (soundsystem and DJs)
2) there is a dancefloor that leaves you space to dance so you can
actually enjoy yourself. The Guv lost me years ago.
3) a decent place to chill if I need to rest my feet (sad I
know...but I am getting old ...but won't let it get the best of me
I promise)...and by lounge I don't mean a nasty stripper VIP pit
(cause heaven knows after only 20 minutes of dancing in those 4
inch heels they are bound to be looking to rest their feet

Don't get me wrong I like female strippers just as much as the next girl. But I will go to the brass rail to see that shit. speaking of which... its lunch time...Rail gets busy right about now. gotta run. later.

Since I used to promote for Lotus I have to disagree. The clientele there was actually pretty fuckin good and I don't see whats wrong with women lookin good, even if a boob job and makeup makes them look good. I don't understand why people think that a good lookin crowd is a drawback. A good looking crowd draws people to the club, money and then good DJ's. It's not a drawback!

it's DJs, not DJ's.

Sorry, but under the DJ booth where the main bar is will be amongst the worst frequency response in the club as it's all geared toward the centre of the room. You shouldn't be expecting good sound if you're behind a speaker. Only bass.

On-line (IE. dance floor) response = good.
Off-line (IE. any corner) response = shite.

PS. Your 1st post on this topic was good.

PSS. Toronto has way too many clubs for them all to make it regardless of if they were 'perfectly' good.

I say TA take over MLG or SkyDome and make it a 24hour trance party club.

*note to self: too much water isn't good for you*

I know someone who used to promote there on fridays as well (now promotes for boa) and he was always at system on fridays b/c he didn't like the clientele at Lotus. that place sucked so bad, that free cover and drinks didn't make up for it. I didn't like the vibe there b/c the ppl weren't there for the music, they were there to be 'seen.' I like a crowd that is so into the music that you feel a sense of comradery and understanding w/ other patrons.

also i can vouch for the fact that techno addict doesn't promote there. i know 2 promoters there (and not of teh flyer monkey variety)

And not only all those things but the design of the inside of the club. The DJ booth and the walk to the bar in front of it. Who would have thought of that was probably not thinking that people would ever be dancing at this venue.

Plus, it was probably the worse bunch of people (other the the ones I knew there) in terms of being perverted losers that try to grab girls as they walk by.

Phazon is synomous with rocking sound system. The only clubs that don't have one that have rocking sound are Giant in LA and CrobarNYC, and they had theirs built custom by stereophile experts (Martin Logan, I think).

The guv has awesome sound!

wha? the phazon system is not crappy at all. almost any sound system if you stand near the tower will hurt your ears. the only sound system that has not done that is stereo's. the sound system at Lotus was definately not better than at the Guv's. The guv has a phazon sound system. here is more info on phazon: http://www.phazonsound.com/sys-tmpl/faqaboutus/

this is a quality sound system. you can say what you want about the clientele and vibe of guv, but their sound system is excellant. i constantly hear ppl saying, I have the guv, but i love to hear *fill name of dj here* on the phazon.

hmmm does anyone know who did stereo's (montreal) sound? as i have mentioned, that is the best sound i've ever heard.

Posted by avikonen on Jan-09-2004 04:30:

I wish I knew! Maybe it's a canadian company. Canada makes some of the best audiophile equipment around Having the national audioacoustics lab helps your industrie a lot

I made a bobo - CrobarNYC is phazon. So it's probably only Giant that's custom (that I know of) Augh, NewYear's recovery....

the only thing i know about it is that apparently the sound there is analog rather than digital (like phazon). I think matt said that the sound was done by ppl that had before stereo been putting togeher sound systems for outdorr festivals and whatnot.

Dance IS really popular in TO. The biggest club in the city plays it in their main room every Sat. night (The Guv).

Guv plays DANCE? how do you define dance?

So why did Lotus not do well?
Good looking people is one thing - fake people with attitude is another.

I'm saying it plays mainstream prog/trance and hardstyle. As opposed to underground shit.
