What are you talking about??? How many cheesy tunes sound as sick as Airwave??? This tune is a classic? maybe I am wrong, but just my opinion

Airwave is a classic.
If you say it's cheese then a lot of trance tracks are cheese...

or for you cheese is just a track that meets a huge success ?
if so that doesn't make a lot of sense as they probably didn't imagine they would have such success with this track in the beginning.

And they are: Gouryella Gouryella, System F Out Of The Blue and a whole host of other classics made the top 40 in this country, the only thing is the cheese was BETTER back then.

Once again you're incorrectly placing tracks in the "cheese" column based on their commercial success. Where a track hits in the pop charts has absolutely nothing to do with their inherent value. And your "the cheese was BETTER back then" comment is sorely misguided. Don't let nostalgia get the best of you. Besides, just like Airwave, Out of the Blue and Gouryella were unique, innovative tracks.

it borders on cheese IMO.cant fault the buildup.one of the best of all time.the vid of ATB playing it at trance energy is unreal.talk about energy!

Out of the Blue is a classic because of its distinct structure and (at the time) innovative synths. It also doesn't have god-awful vocals ("I see you...") and it doesn't use horrible synth strings as the melody. Finally, it doesn't follow the age-old structure the Airwave sticks to with annoying predictability.

Airwave is candy cutter trance. I have absolutely no objection to music selling, and I don't have a grudge towards Airwave because of its success, but it does annoy me that everyone round here refuses to call it cheese just because it is a good track.

1. The "I see you..." vocals are only in the radio edit of Airwave.

2. Rank 1's strings were just as innovative and distinct (at the time) as any element of OotB.

3. Its "age-old" structure is no different from any other trance tune since then.

So, if you call Airwave cheese you essentially call all trance from 1999 onwards cheese. While that is a valid opinion in itself Airwave must still be recognized as one of the pioneers of the sound and thus inherently more worthwhile.

Geez... why can't anybody ever post on a thread without arguing? An OPINION is just that... an opinion. Stop trying to dispute everything and argue over something completely irrelevant (what is cheese, what isn't cheese, etc)

Anyways, my pick for a cheesy song that I can't help but love is:

Emjay - Flying to the Moon.

It's older eurodance style stuff... but meh... cheese like that gets caught in your head sometimes...

Its my opinion that Out of the Blue was pioneering a new sound, while Airwave was ripping off an existing one (the digital classical style common since the early 90s) and bastardising trance into the "take a catchy sample and put a beat behind it and leave it at that" formula.

Hehe, I have been known to listen to Ian van Dahl - Castles in the Sky more than a couple of times. Plus Barthezz - On the Move, Beam & Yanou Vs. PIt- The Free Fall (The Opus), Sash! - Stay, and PPK - Resurrection (Space Club Mix) are some cheesy tracks that I might just enjoy...still, if you like it, why not listen to it?

Posted by KrissO on Jan-12-2004 11:59:

Haven't listened to any of these in ages, but I will do when I get home:
Dee Dee - Forever
Foggy - Come Into My Dream
Ian Van Dahl - Try
DJ Encore - I See Right Through To You
Fragma - Everytime You Need Me / Toca Me (Toca's Miracle)
Astroline - Close My Eyes
Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone (vocal version)
Neo Cortex - Elements

DJ Sammy - Boys Of Summer <-- got fed up of it very fast, heard it everywhere.
DJ Sammy - Sunlight <-- also a nice summer tune.

Posted by a98 on Jan-12-2004 12:35:

was it ferry corsten himself who called his supersaw tunes (carte blanche, out of the blue etc) as eurotrance..

even though i love that overused jp shit, what does it have to do with the sound that trance had when it startted?

just listen to a extended versions of these cheesy pop you name, dj sammy, ian van dahl and etc..
and without the vocals they would be so damn close to those supersaw uplifters like out of the blue airwave etc..

and obviously most people are even big fan of vocal trance..
which i'm not
