I agree, but you also have to realize that there are still people who listen to ATB without saying so, and will do whatever they can to be accepted.

ATB is the best sketchy sunday music ever.

Musically speaking, I have to agree with you on that. But the thing is that for me, a good night out is a blend of music AND atmosphere. So yeah, there are other DJs that could please my ears but what if the club is half empty and that there's no vibe? Somehow, wether you like it or not, Tiesto always drags a huge amount of ppl and the vibe is always incredible (tho the music could be better sometimes)

anyway... just my 2 cents

It's too bad most people don't realize that an amazing night is a function of many things above and beyond the DJ.
If people were going out strictly to hear stuff like Tiesto plays, they don't need to wait for him to come around. Plenty of locals can, technically, do what he does.

I bash because I know and everyone else knows that he is capable of better and he just does not try as hard as he should. I mean he blames trainwrecks on the cdj's, I mean shut the fuck up and say I screwed up and move on. Same with Oakenfold, capable of greater things, same with PvD (tho someone let me know when he decides to play some new records, not the same crap in different orders). I mean if you are an A List deejay making 25K + per gig, you need to give the fans what they want, I mean we don't want to go and hear 3-4 hrs of the same old shit, you pay a premium to see the big names and they should give you what you want (yes they are only human and have their bad days but Tiesto played so poorly for a while (some argue it continues) that he should have stepped back and gone on vacation. Heck, Nick Warren did it and look at him now. I am still a tiesto fan but I'll go back to see him when he decides to put effort into mixing and track selection (hint..i rather have the old tiesto than the current one). Oakenfold is the same (he was KING!, 1999 proves it and look at him now, playing the same old crap)....I own every PvD album cept reflections (which was a dud)...he can do better in production and deejaying. Why can't deejays stop playing the same records and decide to play stuff that others don't and stop settling for poor results. All 3 are capable of greatness and their past sets show that.

What are you talking about, his tracklist from June @ the Docks is totally different from his HMH set in Amsterdam in November...

During the summer, it was a mix of both tracklists between these two events.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-12-2004 19:50:

Actually I just got accused of downloading all his sets, which the last one I have is his em from the summer. Tiesto can mix better and do better track wise, he knows it, I know it, we all know it. Thinking about this tho, I wish more deejays would play cloudwalking again, like tiesto used to do, cut the thing out then bring it back in during the main riff...heavenly!

Posted by Endlesswave on Jan-12-2004 19:56:

I'm with you entirely on this one TTA. Tiesto was and can still be a good dj, it's just ever since he started mixing in other genres his mixing has gone downhill, as for track selection? Ummmmmmmm it's good sure but it's drastic, sudden and can be a shock to some people. Solely because of his trying to mix in other genres. Dj'ing is supposed to be subtle and it's supposed to progress somewhere (at least I think so, or if it's sudden the track is supposed to fit where it's placed in the set), NOT just dropping one tune after another and having them be good tracks. They're each supposed to fit together and flow CONSISTENTLY to form the set. I've talked with other dj friends of mine and they say the same...I mean it makes sense. It doesn't make sense to drop a hard techno tune and then a mellow type trancer after or any similar way of track placement. At least that's how I think dj'ing should be done. It's ART as someone once said and yes there are varying interpretations on how someone should make it but I think the way I mentioned above best suits this type of art...

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-12-2004 20:00:

I can see deejays experimenting with different genres but the set has to flow....unless you playing somewhere..where everyone is too stoned to care...hehehehe. I mean tiesto played breaks but played a breaks tune then went techno, I mean deejays need to think a bit better imo.

I see you got so much to say ... but how come you're never seen anywhere????

do you ever come out at all to these parties?

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-12-2004 21:33:

I took some time off from clubbing of late....who knows when you will see out at some club...hell I don't even know....But I figure I know enough about the a list deejays from hearing ppl that saw them and stuff to comment on them.

Tiesto ? Who's that ?

Gimme Mark Oliver banging out some trance instead...less wrecks, less cheese and definately less of a hit on the wallet.

*feel free to flame...i never thought Tiesto was all that in the first place*

remember what they tell you in elementary school...it's ok to be different. (aka wierd)

Nah, just kidding. I personally owe Tiesto for getting me into this whole scene (when I first heard Magik 6 in summer of 2000), so I'll always be grateful and he'll always be my favourite. But I do agree that isn't quite as good as he used to be, but he's really not the trainwrecker hack that some of you guys make him out to be.

Posted by Mandrick_v on Jan-13-2004 01:14:

Can't say a bad word about Tijs

Tiesto's latest gate crasher and innercity are fully energetic and have great flow in them. Especially the seocnd half of the gate crasher set. The guy can spin, people love that and thats exactly what I would be doing in his place. He is popular, so what, he deserves it.

I dowloaded TIC DVD before new years, six 22+ year old people (I am the only tranceaddict) were jumping all New Years Night @ cottage up north pumping 500 watts of the 3 and half hours jorney twice. Tiesto did my new Years night. The concert is fucking amazing, all the themes and hype of the Kane's Rain on Me was nuts.

I have no clue why there is so much hate for the person who brough 60% of us into trance and keeps on doing his work. I want to see him again and I hope that he will be here too.

I'll admit, i don't really hate Tiesto. I do think he has suffered from over exposure, and that perhaps has skewed his perspective on what the audience wants. Hell, i'm sure most of his fans still adore him as much as they did when he first started getting noticed ( Magik days ). Personally, i credit PVD and Oakie for delivering me into ;a state of trance'. I have had good nights with Tiesto on the decks, but nothing quite stirrs the memories like PVD's 10 hour sets at Twilo back in 99.

Tiesto is still a solid artist ( despite the wrecks which i'm sure every DJ makes ) and a date in Toronto will probably ensure mass hysteria ... so it doesn't really matter what little ole me thinks.

yeah man, I agree. We Tiesto lovers must just feel a certain way I guess. As corny as it sounds, there is a genuine connection between Tiesto and his fans that I don't think any other Dj has right now. Even if you don't like Tiesto, you guys all have to admit that a lot of people feel his Magik even if you don't/cant/don't want to.

Boo hoo, Tiesto plays cheeze, he trainwrecks, he doesnt have flow, he didnt deserve the No 1 position...

for fucks sake, live with it, hes one of the best...he has done more for the Trance genre than most, but some of you cant appreciate that becuase you spend your time analzying how his finger turns a transition knob on his mixer.

Cant wait to see you Tiesto haters when he comes...

He's number 1 because he makes mistakes...

The problem with most people is that they don't realize to be on top, you have to make mistakes, and more of them than the rest...
