When i first heard atb's 9pm on the last day of yr 1999 (eve)
Big thanks to atb

That's the start of electronic life Started off with cheesier dance treks then as time goes by, the more underground ones im into.

Posted by Strike on Jan-16-2004 04:36:

well i've always liked it when i heard it on tv
ex: daft punk, chemical brothers, prodigy, etc
but i never really got into it until darude
then i knew i needed more
and i went on to some cheese for a while
then i eventually found TA from one of the id tags
after that, i knew this place was right for me

i'm not so much into trance anymore
prog and breaks got the best of me

Wow, this brings back memories. I think the first song that really struck me was 808 State's Cubik...must have been '89. Before that, I enjoyed some of the remixes of Depeche Mode. After 808 State, I started searching high and low for singles, to no avail. I managed to find some Joey Beltram and The Prodigy (remember Charley?). I think this stuff was more techno than anything else, but that was all there was!

Got deep into trance around 2000 when Oakenfold's music was the easiest to find.

Solid

IWANNABEAHIPPYANIWANNAGETSTONED They don't make em like that anymore

Anyways, guess things kicked off for me in 1997, my mate introduced me to Prodigy and drum 'n bass. Things just escalated from there.

Into EDM since 1992 (I was twelve back then)..

Have been switching favourite styles every year or so, but it has been techno for quite a while now.. And I think it's going to stay that way

Although I can listen to other EDM genres as well (progressive, trance sometimes, chill-out)

I started liking dance music about 5 years ago with Prodigy "Fat of the land" and Chemical brothers "Dig your own hole". Traded like 10 used cds for those two and from there I just started finding more music like it and then I learned that the music i really liked was trance all along.

Thank god I found electronic music cuz I used to listen to mainstream crap under the assumption that was what i liked (boy was i wrong).

hah, my story is interesting.
I've always lived in NY, When i was young I used to go to greece every summer to see family, and they had a channel which I can't find there anymore called SevenX, and they had a segment where they played badass electronic music. This must have been in 1995. Then when i would be in America I couldn't find any electronic music, so I listened to Rap/Rock during winter, and EDM during summer. Then in 1997 my older brother started going to all the raves around the tristate area, and I would copy his Frankie bones mixtapes. Between all those years I listened to Drum and bass, Hardcore, gabba, and in 1999 I saw Pvd at twilo (i was 16) and fell in love with trance. 2000 I began spinning, and late 2002 i got into Prog, and now im a big Techno fan.
But I still listen to ALL the music I once listened to, Rap, Punk Rock, Techno, Trance, Prog, Hardcore, Hardstyle. I love music in every form it comes and I dont criticize others for what they like!

I've been listening to music for about... 6 years (sad I know, started Freshman year of HS) and now I'm a sophomore in college, but I started listening to electronic music in like... junior/senior year in HS transition... so like 3 years or so.

Ever since I heard S-xpress, it was a house song very popular in the UK around 1988 ... so I could say I've been in electronic music for 15 years

well since about 1997 i started listening to prodigy and they totally sucked me in. the 1st prodigy cd i got stayed on repeat in my cd player for a very long time. then i started going to some small local underground parties and became totally addicted..then i started getting flyers for more parties...my 1st huge party was april foolz 2 in april 1998, the 1st 2 years in the scene was all about going to parties, dancing and having fun, there was alot i didn't know about the different types of EDM, as long as i had some beats to dance to i was happy, then in 1999 i started going to club space in philly, and they used to have alot of trance dj's spinning there...john shah every weekend and x-dream like once a month, well i heard "out of the blue" and "1999" and that was it, from that point on iv'e been a huge trance junkie. it took over my life and i love it!

It seems like Prodigy got a lot of people into trance. I wonder when their next album is coming out.

started with 2 unlimited, then prodigy, praga khan and some others (does anybody remember the "hit the decks" mix albums?) i think i listened to scotch - disco band before that but i didnt really know what it was. (electronic music) then i had a period of punkrockmusic, skate-hardcore that kind of stuff before returning in the late nineties to discover it again through picotto, tiesto, system f etc. these days i listen to trance in general but i can feel the housemusic pulling me more and more. but i havent forgotten where i started, i still play praga khan - injected with a poison if i need to cheer myself up

as was i, used to be a big metal head, can never get away from it for i was raised on it... but trance is still my number 1... been addicted since the first track i EVER heard... Dj Tiesto - Suburban Train... that had to be about 2000 or 2001

Posted by T_2199 on Jan-19-2004 22:36:

It all started with some 'Dream Dances' complitations (good cheese, at least the old ones) and I got really addicted to York - The Awakening (something around 1998).. It was such an OMFG melody back in time .. I played it over and over and over

But I didnt know about TA so Trance was so unexplored for me ..
When I first discovered TA I clicked it away because I didnt know most of the tracks theyve got for download there .. A few months later I discovered the Forums and after a year of just browsing I finally registered.. I must say I know now 95% more about trance than before and Im a poor vinyl addict now ;(
