My French absolutely sucks...

It's something about the "mofos" dancing naked in the clubs and how it's disgusting, then that they put it in their ass, then something about shit. And that they're all crazy. That's all.

Not a bad summary of the situation!

Exclamation Beg to differ

*** In all do respect everyone has their own opinion on topics in life. Yet I do believe that homosexuals (mainly guys) are regular people. I also think that they are so cute. So...don't be hypocrites because while you say they are wrong (yes, it's in the Bible), nevertheless, you don't account of lesbians as wrong. That's an interesting point. Do straight girls enjoy gay men as much as straight guys like lesbians?

I can't believe some people still favor discrimination. Do gay people not deserve equal rights? In the US "all men are created equal." Not all white men, all property owners, not all straight men, but all men. What do you think is a greater assult on marraige, two gay people getting married for life or two straight people getting married in vegas and then getting a divorce 48 hours later. According to the Bible divorce is wrong, and slavery is tolerated. God wants us to evolve in our thinking, otherwise he wouldn't let us come up with ideas like all people are equal. Gays aren't asking for religious marriage, just the same equal rights for their partners that straight marriages recieve. Bigotry in any form is horrible. Being gay isn't a lifestyle choice, it's something you're born with. I have gay friends and to tell them what they are is a choice is just wrong. It's just as bad as telling a black person "your choice in skin color is wrong, why aren't you white?" They have just as much choice in their orientation as people do with their skin color. It really saddens me that so many people in America are blind on this issue. Why should anyone be discriminated against. It is just wrong.

all of a sudden everyone is supporting gays..yet the most common cuss at this board i have noticed is u r gay..or ur post is gay or the posts before and after this is gay..how do u expect people to accept gays when it is considered as an insult...all those pictures with yup ur gay on it..or when u do something dumb and someone goes oh thats gay..not just on the boards but in everyday life..some people are hipocrates....if they wanna get married let em get married..i would have been against it way back when marraige ment something..wasnt marriage a celebration for a female dedicating her life to a male and going from a girl to a woman...nowadays that means nothing. before a couple gets married they had sex 100's of times and r already livin together or even have a kid alr..marriage in this day n age done mean shit...if we r goin by religion then all couples shouldnt have sex before marriage and not devorce..i dont think this happens at all now so if it is broken..might as well have the gays join..

I am guilty of this, even used it today However I've always supported gays, they've never effected nor bothered me. You make a good point though, I will try and stop using "gay" to diss people

I've never seen that type of insult used in this forum, only in Chillout, and (Somewhat disturbingly) usually by Americans. I always make a point to pull people up when they make comments like that, as I believe they achieve nothing and just contribute to the 'gays are sick' mentality that some people seem to have.

It's sad that there are so many people in this world who still believe that conjecture (e.g. religion) constitutes a legitimate basis for authoritarian policies. If, as Aristotle wrote, it is reason which seperates man from animal, then I find myself to be living in a zoo.

I'm not saying that it isn't in widespread usage, much the opposite in fact. I personally refrain from using it as I don't see being gay as a negative attribute, and I realize that it insults/hurts gay people when someone uses 'gay' as an insult. I won't deny that I see it used in other forums on ta, particularly by Americans & occasionally a UKTA, but I haven't seen it used in this particular forum.

New Mexico County Now Allowing Same-Sex Marriages
Fri February 20, 2004 02:39 PM ET

SANTA FE, N.M. (Reuters) - Officials in a New Mexico county next to Santa Fe said on Friday they have granted their first same-sex marriage licenses, adding the state may become the next battleground over the issue of gay marriage.
Officials from rural Sandoval County, which is southwest of Santa Fe and home to a massive Intel Corp. semiconductor manufacturing facility, said they have already issued 10 same-sex marriage licenses after finding this week no laws on the books that prevent gay marriages in New Mexico.

The Massachusetts Supreme Court has declared that state's laws limiting marriage to men and women to be discriminatory, while in California, the city of San Francisco is openly defying state law by marrying thousands of same-sex couples.

"There's nothing in the law that I can find that would prohibit issuing same-sex marriage licenses," said Sandoval County Clerk Victoria Dunlap. She said several more same-sex couples have sought to marry.

"I'm sure New Mexico will become the next test ground," she said. "We're fairly open-minded here despite the rural area we're living in."

State officials on Friday were scrambling to find laws that addressed the issue.

A spokeswoman for Attorney General Patricia Madrid said their office has received two requests from state senators for an opinion on the legality of same-sex marriages in the state. The office expects to have an opinion on the matter next week.

"We realize the importance of this to the public," spokeswoman Sam Thompson said.

Gov. Bill Richardson, a Democrat who is often mentioned as a potential vice presidential nominee, has voiced his opposition to gay marriage in the past but does support equal rights for same-sex couples. His office could not be reached for comment.

Sandoval County officials said that other counties have denied same-sex unions because of a form written in 1961 that calls for one male and one female applicant for a marriage license.

That doesn't make any sense dear. Since I am a straight man, how would I have any idea as to the thinking or mindset of a straight woman? It was a question addressed to the female persuasion.

Yes lesbians are fine by me as long as they don't shave their heads.

(Joking)

thats true that most of us use gay as an insult. because basically, being gay is revolting to most people. in my school, i cant even count how many times someone says "fag" "gay" "homo(sexual)" lezbian cock sucker...etc.........gay marraiges are a disgrace to the morality of marraige between a man and a woman. that is is where marraige came from. god ordaned it with adam and eve.

now, i know most of you are secularists and atheist, and wont believe what i just said, so, why dont people instead not use marraige. because marriage came from religion. none of u like religion, but yet, many of u are strongly for gays getting "married". if religion is so bad, dont get married, invent your own union of your love.

Honestly I don't really disagree with you much on this issue. But what would need to happen for this to work (and what I think should happen anyway), would be that the government would have to stop giving tax breaks and other handouts to "married" couples. These policies were fundamentally based on the idea that the woman wouldn't be able to pursue a career because she would be home with the children - but that's no longer true in modern society.

As the premise of the policy is no longer true, the reasoning behind it fails and it fully ought to be abolished.

Actually, I take offence at that. Just because I made an observation that Americans and sometimes UKTAs seem to use gay as an insult in Chillout (and sometimes MD) does not mean I am prejudiced against Americans. I try and judge people by their actions, not by where they come from. I was merely observing that it might be an issue in the US, simply because I seem to see Americans using it as an insult.

Dictionary.com definition of prejudice:
- An adverse judgement or opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge or examination of the facts.
- A preconceived preference or idea.

I don't have a preconceived prejudice against Americans. Some of the people I admire most on TA are Americans. I have a huge amount of respect for Occrider, Arbiter & MisterOpus, all of which is simply due to their actions on this forum. I did not form an opinion on them before I read what they had to say, and I don't think I have done so with anyone else. If I have a prejudice against someone, it's got to be the Kiwis. Damned sheep lovers.

No, 'most of us' (Lovely how you presume to speak for the majority of the world's population, isn't it?) use gay as an insult because of intolerance and stupidity.

You need to recognise the difference between a secular/civil marriage and a religious one. Religion cannot be a factor when it comes to deciding who should be allowed to marry in a secular ceremony. I understand why you may be against gays marrying in Christian ceremonies (Assuming you are a Christian of course), but how do you justify being against civil marriages for gays?

quote:

You failed to mention one tiny thing, although it's of no consequence really. They aren't attracted to the opposite sex, so maybe, just maybe, they won't want to marry them? Nah...

What is the first thought that comes into your head when you visualize having sex with someone of the same sex? No doubt it repulses you. That's exactly how a gay person is likely to feel when visualizing sex with a member of the opposite sex. Now, does gay marriage affect you in any way? Does it harm society in any way? Do gays getting married harm each other? Can gays consent to a relationship?
Why are you against gay marriage, or civil unions?

Correct.

The word "prejudice" has so much more gravity than its simple definition.

I guess I also have preconceived ideas about religious fundamentalists too, but it's because their mindset is so hard to understand.

Well, I was running with the first definition, but if we're going to go with the latter ones, then let's just agree that we're all prejudiced against each other, and there's nothing we can do about it.

Sound fair?
