u need to listen to them before you can call them commercial

I was talking about ATB, Safri Duo, CJ Stone.... they're very commercial you gotta agree with me.. they're all over the radio and mtv

Smiley DJ

I would have to say Australia has the best DJ"s in the world. I know I"m being a little biased here.

tu_face: Just wanted to let you know that Matt Darey ain't a dj!

Master Bates: balls man, you got 'em, but a weird taste!

Anybody who mentiones Germany, how come Dj Sakin wasn't mentioned?

Anyhow, I think Holland takes the cake for best djs, just because they have a larger quantity of better djs than any other country! And the UK? pfft! I personally don't like ANY UK djs at the moment, somebody mentioned Oakie, yeah he WAS good, about 3 years ago n earlier! Well back to my point, if I were to write a list of ten of my favourite djs, 7 or 8 of them would be from the Netherlands! Well, that's it for me!

i agree that. i heard piccoto a lot of times in partys and he NEVER mixes his commercials songs like proximus or komodo. his sets are techno, techno, and pure techno. not a kind of music you should hear on your local radio station.

i can add my opinion. i think that Germany/UK are the electronic music countries. Holland or Norway aren't as developed as this duo in the techno movement. all techno style are born between this two nations.

and i just add the to german dj's list scot project and faithless for uk (who's a real awesome dj, and not a commercial product)

Oakenfold bashers

Why is everyone feels the need to trash Oakenfold? Ive heard him play this year and he was awesome. He plays tunes no one else does. His sets are still kick off quality and electric to hear. Its fashionable to bash the man cos the press have been doing it for ages now. Listen to him, and form your own opnions, dont blithly repeat the opinion thats in vogue this week.

[/end rant]

P.S. I wont be drawn into this "who has the best DJ's" argument either. Music should, and does, break down barriers.

we can't remember all the dj's name we heard at this moment i'm listening to a talla 2xlc set, and it's and awesome one! (dj and set) i heard him live in Motion Dance Open Air and recently in Energy 01, he's a master.

There seem to be some confusion regarding the definition of a DJ. To me a DJ is somebody who play records at parties, not producers or even bands like Faithless or Safri Duo.
As it's a matter of personal preference as to whether a DJ is actually good (or even best) there's no point in listing (more or less) famous DJs as an argument to a specific country having the best DJs. Living in a trance-abundant country I think that if a country's having good DJs there should - as a result thereof - be a huge amount of trance-fans there, that is: Good DJs should be able to "convert" non-believers, right? So we could settle the discussion if we somehow found a way of measuring how popular trance is. On behalf of my country: "we give up". Not even Deleriums "Silence" entered the charts around here.

thx emerica

yes most of the swiss djs are still unknown.
and sorry for that avh-thing, its a failure in my list, anyhow the us has still the best techno-djs followed by germany I think.

Angry again and again and again and again

the question was: "WITCH COUNTRY HAVE THE BEST DJ'S"?

another question from me:
What good DJ means?
a) a man that can mix very well using decks/disc and etc.
b) a man who plays or has produced your favorite tracks
c) just your favorite dj?

talking about good UK djs? i am surprised that you are missing "carl cox". maybe because he is not playing your favorite music? i also dont like the music he plays very much (PVD is my favorite), but carl cox is one of the best DJS in the world. also when josh wink was in bulgaria some local dj said that josh wink was putting some papers between the vynil and the doze to add some noises to the mix. i hope now you understand what i mean.

Posted by emerica on Aug-15-2001 20:02:

well if you view the thing like this I have to say that hiphop dj are mastering every techno djs. i personally hate hiphop music and style. but their djs are gods. so i think that a good dj for someone is one who mixes goods tracks, and not boring ones, and who made it with class, and who adds personnal effects. piccoto, carl cox, todd terry or jeff miles are very technical djs, but not everyone will like their music style, so they will class them like a medium/bad djs. we have to see technical part of mixing tunes, and how dj's make it. it's so simple for a guy to take two cd players and mix songs with a crossfader. mixing is very very diffult to execute. if you aren't ok with me, just go in a party where, for example, jeff mills is mixing and go closer as you can near the dj to see his work. it's unbelievable. he's a god. he NEVER get out 1 hand of his mixing studio, searching the best sound possible at any time and adding effects with any object he founds (pen, shoes, others materials, unbelievable i said...) . and it works fucking fine. this is a godlike dj for me. it's my opinion :-)

Posted by Yarnie on Aug-15-2001 20:12:

germany also got great dj's
sven vath, pvd ,chris liebing

btw the judge sucks

Posted by LiquidX on Aug-15-2001 20:14:

Well, so if we are talking DJ"s good in technical skills and effest, thoe Hip Hop DJ's would win, I mean, you them scratching, doing all this effects .. very hard to do , and wich would take years, and some of my friends, who are into DJ and all, always bitch about how trance music sux in the way that its easy to mix ( for a DJ) and you need like no skills, while in Hip Hop, you have to go through a process of learning how to scratch and so on ...
Talking trance, USA has pretty good DJ"s, just not up to that higehr level .. why?!?! because people are the ones that take the DJ's to the top , and here in the USA is very very hard to achive so. LAwrence, Micro, Kimball Collins, Sandra Collins, George Acosta are just a few ... now .. famous DJs is a whole different thing.
SO the country with best DJ's would be a tight fight, in Between UK, Holland, Israel, USA, Germany.

Posted by DRM on Aug-15-2001 20:46:

Okay fair enough there maybe a lot of swiss dj's we haven't heard of but surely that means they are not the best in the world (although they are prob excellent dj's) cuz if they were they would have some recognition. As for the US, u have Danny Tenaglia who if u asked all the best dj's in the world who their fav dj was a large percentage would say him (although im not a fan of his style), due to his amazing skills as a DJ

Posted by Omni on Aug-15-2001 20:57:

I give my vote to UK for a wide range of good DJ's from all different genres of music.

But I give my vote to the Netherlands for best trance DJ's.

And I give no vote to America...because uh...our best DJ is Danny Tenaglia
