You are right about PvD for the most part, but I've seen him enjoy himself a couple of times. Down in LA at the Mayan Theatre in October..he was having a great time it appeared. I was front and center taking all kinds of pictures and suddenly these two girls behind me saying "PvD is trying to get your attention..." -- I turn around, I look up and he's up there moving around pointing at me trying to get me to take a picture of him...so I point my camera at him and he puts his arms out and smiles..and I take it. It was a perfect picture, if it wasn't for a fucking green line of light smeared right across his face. Hate when that happens.

The craziest I've ever seen (or heard) about PvD in a booth was him at 1015 last June. He was going bonkers. Jumping up and down, twirling around, going crazy. Was wondering for a sec there if he was on drugs or something (but of course he wasn't...he's very against the use of any type of drugs)....the vibe at 1015 was the most intense vibe I have ever seen, although it was far too crowded for any type of comfort. 1015 is one of PvD's favorite clubs to play in in the world...he loves it there. He played in Ruby Skye in November, and didn't really enjoy it from what I've heard. Thank goodness he's back at 1015 next time he's here on May 1.

And yes, bring Tiesto back...although I think it'll be awhile. Sometime during the summer at the earliest. He's doing all the Heineken "Thirst" tour stuff -- a good part of it being in South America, Asia, and Australia. Maybe Heineken will bring the tour throgh the US, but no dates given yet...

But next time he does come back, while I _LOVE_ the sound system at the Mezzanine and the feel, I hope he gets booked at 1015 again so they can have an insane night of Kryo-use to make the crowd continuously go bonkers and keep the place cool. He's played at the Mezz the last two times he's been in SF (June 06 for the PS2 Dual Play Tour, a Spundae-produced event, and October 26 for Spundae, but it was a Sunday, not Spunday's night at 1015)...Hopefully next time he can play on a Friday night so Spundae can get him back into 1015.

wrong dude

ask mikey mike, PvD does drugs...he saw it with his own eyes and he is the biggest PvD fan I know.

Tiesto is the same, he is too into coke and I don't care what denial they give you. They both do drugs now.

Really? Wow...he talks about how he's totally against it on his DVD...I think he even talked about how he was so happy when he saw two people make two T-Shirts that essentially had a don't do drugs message at a gig.

So...maybe he was on drugs after all.

Posted by torontotrance on Feb-29-2004 03:54:

I've heard from numerous people that they have seen PvD taking pills. These are people who saw him in different countries at different gigs. Now for the true PvD worshippers...nothing is confirmed as drugs but when I hear from many trustworthy people from different countries at different times, I'm more inclined to believe it. I mean many deejays have gone anti drug but I suspect that most do drugs in some form. I doubt PvD would ever confirm it and probably say it was medication, which it could be, who knows. Most deejays are on some sort of substance with exceptions...joof is anti drugs, anti alcohol but he could do drugs...who knows. Tiesto is on something, you play die another day (tiesto mix) and you think it is the best track of your set then you are on something...lol

Hey i wanna add my 2 cents being a tiesto fan or ass licker - whats in a name huh?

Toronto - i agree with you that the style has changed... he is attempting a much broader range of songs now... whereas before u might had to catch him in different venues to hear a proggy set or uplifting set. In my eyes that counts as a harder challenge as a dj than attempting 3 hours of just uplifting shit. It also means every punter in the club will at least once, hear a tune that fits their style, their liking of trance, be it techier or deeper or vocal... thats why i think he's shifted to a wider range of tunes.

bad mixing (and we've all heard it at a tiesto gig i know) can't be defended whether its Tiesto or whether its Andy Max Disco... so no comments on that one. I've always had the opinion that if u listen to the older CD releases, say Forbidden Paradise or Lost Treasures, and compare the mixing from those to current CD's like Nyana and his recent livesets... there is a difference, not just in style... but his mixing has become a lot tighter in recent years. I think its only proof that as a dj tiesto still learns new methods and new mixing technique all the time... his mixing hasn't gone downhill - he's always had the odd one or two where he'll slap the treble over first, and it sounds crap but like i said its a lot better than it used to be.

I think like some people who cling to the old style 98-99 tiesto... u are basing your opinions on what you heard him play in 2002... surely u have heard something of a certain concert he performed, a few BETTER remixes than die another day, although personally (having never taken drugs) i've heard this tune played out numerous times, and thought it TUNE OF THE NIGHT without any stimulant abuse. Take a quick download from the recent return to the Heineken Dance Hall in Amsterdam from November... if you can complain about that set, i think u must have gone off trance in general never mind Tiesto!

It is just possible to still enjoy the current Tiesto sound. Although u'll argue its the pillheads and bandwagon jumpers who've made him number 1, lets try to remember that there had to be an original fanbase for these lot to jump on board with, and i think its loyal followers like myself that contribute more than we are given credit for in his popularity... thats right its not all 16-17 years olds experiencing clubbing for the first time at Tiesto's nights.

For me... a tune like hmm Agnelli & Nelson - Holding Onto Nothing or Solid Globe - Sahara... these are tunes played by most of the big names at present... but there is just something about it when Tiesto drops it as opposed to armin, ferry or PvD... having followed tiesto from 2000... you WILL understand that... its just a pity that so much emphasis is currently put on did he make that mix work, over 20 songs does his set have flow and direction... who gives a shit if over those 2 hours... he made u dance like a lunatic and liberally free all those inhibitions onto the dancefloor it works for me and a whole lot of others. I'll enjoy other nights out... but its the ones with Tiesto playing that i'll come out the club with a smile (big broad grin) on my face

It'll be difficult for anyone who has a bias against Tiesto to listen to the new album and openly enjoy it... here's hoping u find some renewed faith in the best dj in the world when u give it a listen.

Posted by torontotrance on Feb-29-2004 04:41:

I'm not clinging to anything, I'm just pointing out the old tiesto put more effort into mixing and tune selection then the current tiesto. This shows imo that he can do it and is just getting lazy. The world's number 1 deejay goes to ppl's heads because it's only one vote, once a year and not all the true fans vote. I'd love to see tiesto back in 98-2000 mode but that won't happen. I'd like to see the same effort and same ego as back then tho because I think it would make us ppl happy. I mean I must be a tiesto fan in a way because I would not have posted that long message if I did not want to see him return to better efforts. He can do better and when you see ppl not performing to their best then you wonder are they lazy.

Posted by Toufas on Feb-29-2004 05:32:

i am not defending pvd now but that could be ANYTHING but pills and u know that..but of course they could have been pills
...anyhow
i like tiesto but not as much as other people..he used to be my number 2 but his ego became bigger than cartman's ass.....but why should he care about what u me and almost all of us in this forum?
his fame and popularity will provide him with everything he needs and all his gigs are gonna be packed..till the oakenfold desease will strike...but thats not a bad thing isnt it? oakey plays really nice music atm..i enjoy most of his sets that ive heard lately...but nothing like old oakey....

Posted by DaveT on Feb-29-2004 06:04:

Well, Oakey events are still packed as hell despite most people here hating him...so

feel the same dj rvk

Posted by InfiniteSquare on Feb-29-2004 08:17:

i suggest all the tiesto haters stop living in the past like when you were fucked on pills and thought he was awesome

any set you heard when you were on pills will be better than one you hear now dead sober on your family's pc speakers

STOP LIVEING IN THE PAST - if u do, go listen to your "cool music and cool djs" who no one has ever heard of

TIESTO OWNz you and you have to live with it!

Posted by NuDarkBeat on Feb-29-2004 17:30:

It is true that Tiesto is the master. It doesnt matter what anyone says he rules all and has helped keep trance alive. Many people hate on him b/c he has gone slightly more mainstream....Anyways he has still stayed true in spinning the best in trance period.

If you want to hear Tiestos best set
Dj Tiesto - Live @ Club Space Miami - 8/18/02. This set has everything; trance, progressive, medlodic. Tiesto does it all. Not to mention he spins one of my favorite tracks of all time towards the end Nalin & Kane - Open Your Eyes

yeah true but he's not in any rut or stumbling block to the majority of us (only this forum hates his guts - remember?)

even after winning 2003, he said he'd planned that - but not to be that popular from 2002... but his long term goals of worldwide popularity were achieved... what can you do - change a winning formula or stick with what you're doing.

I think mixing and technique wise... he's not lazy - as i put in my long essay back to yours... the multi-genre tracklists he's putting out at the moment takes a degree more skill than just banging out some uplifting tunes (a la Armin )

laziness is going around the world ? getting a CD album released ? getting through his daily record /tune listening ? i think to call any professional dj lazy is a bit naive... these guys work their ass off every week... and if u didnt like 1 set, its ur hang up not theirs.

you know what, i don't even care. all i know is that i saw him spin last Saturday and the set was perfectly catered to my taste and my ear. the only real anthem he played was beautiful things. and i couldn't ID almost half of the set, which is a strange thing for me in a tiesto set. the set was grimey, dark and way intense. the structural flow couldn't have been any better. he really had an entranced captivated audience for 3 +hours.

last night i saw ferry and that set was so boring and generic anthemic for me that I had to leave and go see Danny Howells (who owned me really hard till 10am today).

anyways, i'll give you this. Tiesto's attitude has changed. he was not as warm and passionate as i'm used to from him from seeing over 20 times in the last 4 years. But his attitude doesn't remind me of Oakey's attitude, it actually reminds me of PvD's. but i really couldn't give a shit, as long as he keeps getting musically more mature (and i'm already convinced of that one so there you go.

couldn't put it better myself. there is defo a more mature side to tiesto's tune selections these days that leaves the other trance djs... well... reaching for their copies of 'satellite' to try and win over the crowd again.
I liked a recent interview i found with Tijs where he says he is very pleased with his current direction - - as it is as close as he feels he has ever gotten to the kind of generic (but underlining trancey) sound Sven Vath was championing back in the day... something that inspired him...
and listening to a similar feeling through the new tiesto sound... (defo less mainstream than armin or ferry)... is inspiring a lot of us too!

see u in 10 years in Ibiza

I did forget to mention that his horrible sets continued after I saw him last and I've based on their opinion and my own not just mine. I suspect this will turn into a flame war and be closed but I've stated my opinion in a nice manner.

Tiesto still produces the odd decent track now and then but his sets are really bad.

He has no structure to his sets, his mixing ability has diminished and on the last couple of occasions i have seen him live, he gave up mixing totally and was just flicking the X Fader between decks.

Now if i see Tiesto on a line up for a club, i often do not go, simply because his programing and technique will leave the dancefloor standing as he ruins the flow and state of mind of the ppl dancing.

Posted by meneedit on Mar-01-2004 02:09:

Wicked Neo, have you made any tracks before?
