Totaly with u room2dance on this one. Toooo much crowd is, if not anything else, killing party. No room to move, dance etc. For special events it would be great thing to buy tickets in advance and to limit the number of ppl that can come in.
I dont want to talk about "what if" scenarios, but the disaster is just waiting to happen.
Those who're saying, "leave the place alone, we don't want it shut down," would have a different attitude if one of these weekends there was an incident of some sort and people died, including there friends. If that were to happen, hopefully it won't, everyone would then be crying, "how come nothing was ever done."
To the person saying they're going to file a report, more power to you if you do AND can follow through with it. It's complained about a lot, but noone ever follows through on things.
Get one of the news channels involved, I bet you could find someone looking for a great story!
if the Guv actually gets shut down it'll be for one of 2 reasons:
1. Violation of firecodes after a final warning and fines.
2. Somebody dies after some tragedy from over crowding.
Personally i'd rather take my chances with the first one!
i believe that they should re-construct the entire complex, make it twice as big. that would make things easier and smooth. and i dont know why some people on this thread think that "room2dance" is trying to shut the guv down.. like cmon people, we can make things better in the future, not continue with the suffocation. and again, that doesnt mean im trying to shut down the guv. and as someone said in here, its all z103.5's fault and ginomania has arrived at guv, well i dont listen to the station so i dont know when they played rock your body rock, but however i agree its all their fault. z103 should shut down....

personally i think the main room is crowded because of it's design.. the fact that it's long and not wide as well as the location of the washrooms and the bars. If you take Koolhaus for example, it's washrooms are located on opposite corners and it has a bar on 3/4 sides. I doubt any floor plan changes would be made cheap or easy tho ..

crowd limit=less revenue=less DJs
or they could jack up prices
if they want the crowds they have now, something should/needs to be done.

im actually suprised they dont charge like 5-10$ more for the special events, im pretty sure they would make more money, cuz the # ppl who wouldnt come would be minimal

Atleast room2dance has done something more then bitch about how crowded the place is. That takes balls man, good job!
One thing that i don't get is ppl bitching that "if Guv closes, they've lost the best place for Int DJ talent".
Please, if anything Guv has screwed over the local scene by raising the financial bar to the point other clubs can't compete. Mike Greco (former System promoter) often called it the Deathstar, with it's superlaser of cash it pointed @ the other clubs. After a DJ plays Guv, they sure as hell aren't likely to take much less $$ to play a smaller venue here, or often have contracts SOLELY with GUV for recording/appearances.
It's only a testament to the great variety of partiers and ppl running the scene here that we have what we have. Toronto has a good thing going, but one that could explode even more if the Guv weren't around.

And im not talking about for special events or whatever, im talking about Saturday nights with Mark Oliver. That room had a great party vibe, people would actually going off to Marks music, not like what it seems like today. Girls used to go there and the crowd wasnt as sketchy either. NOW? ugggggh I dont even wanna talk about that place...the place is a total writeoff... IMO |

| Originally posted by j_spot I want a girl to empty her waterbra, then fill it up with gasoline wear that into the guv, take the gasoline, pour it on the cement along a back wall with no flamable materials (so that when the gas is gone, the fire is gone) then light it. see the panic that ensues and how many people are seriously hurt, if not killed. Ive thought of doing what room2dance is doing myself, but know that Im not going to be in TO long enuf to follow thru on it. If they have to get shut down because they endanger people, then so be it. I could really care less. I dont support guv unless Im really dying to see somebody, and then I raelise that I really might die. Its not hard to get trampled to death in a crowd that size. |

Twilo was closed down for A LOT more reasons than overcrowding.
And the differences.... that's Canada vs the United States. More relaxed vs strict guidelines.
Ya, I didn't say overcrowding was the reason for it being closed down. You're right, there were many reasons... drugs probably being the main thing.

| Originally posted by room2dance Well so far the response here has been what I expected. Most in favour, a few afraid I'm rocking the boat. Again, it is not my intention to shut down the Guv. I like the Guv and plan on attending the April 8th party. In fact the reason I'm doing this is because I DO enjoy the Guv, I just want to make sure the next time I go back isn't like the last. This is by no means a radical move. Clubs are warned about overcrowding all the time before any action takes place and hopefully a warning here will sink in to the Guv mamagement and make them think twice about how many people the let in the next time. For the people who think I should leave this alone and put a night of dancing in front of the safey of other people I'm not even going to dignify that position with a response. It doesn't deserve one. |

End of story dont be stupid and try to make a difference, dont screw it up for the rest of us, if you do something stupid ie get the guv closed down there will be plenty of pissed off people and there will be no place for your candyravin ass to dance except at a some shitty club in the city. SO leave it alone stop to think what you are doing its not cool or a good idea to do this you are dumb and wasting your time and not thinking clearly. IF you dont like it dont go! you all know full well its gonna be rammed and its been rammed since the begining of its existence, so stop complaining. There is no substitute for guv so when its gone, its gone and theres no need to have it gone just cause someone was crying one day saying "boo hoo its so packed in here i cant dance " everyone who has ever been to guv has said those exact words and you dont see people being running to the fire marshall. P.S Go dance in the lake if you want room! |
i remember seeing Tiesto play for the first time at the Guv back in July 2000 to a club 3/4 full where only half the people inside knew who he was.. i didn't even know what he looked like before he got up on the decks..
