it is not warranted at all to look at anyone wierd. Especially because they share an ethnic background with terrorist, that is the best example of racism here.

thats the hardest thign about racism, realising we all have stereotypes and no matter who you are, your background, we all fall victim to it. Some fall into it more than others, and some more violently than others.

Saying that others are racist cause they don't share the same opinion with you is not helping the cause. We all know asians are stereotyped, you obviously pay way more attention to cases of it than us so obviously you will think you are top on the discriminatino list.

Just give it some time and you will learn this all yourself.

It is frustrating knowing that you only understand and sympathize with racism dealing with asians.

The only reason I continued with you is that you need to take the time to understand all different forms of it. African Americans imo have it worse off. We had an exhibit at my old university of a few items (over 200 hundred) that porttrayed black stereotypes. Over 50 were bought at local stores, the rest were historical pieces.

Its sucks knowing racism is around, but realise, you are NOT alone in it. People do have it worse off than you. It is very egocentric thinking saying that asians have it worse off.

So I think the moral of my replies are, broaden your horizons, study up on other forms of racism in the world...e.g. ethnic cleansing.

so I hope you do read up on it. it will be worth your time. also since you seem to be very motivated about this don't just sit back and post up on boards about how unfair it is. Try to take action, which is what we as a whole lack now-a-days. Now that woudl be something.

Now this is something Asian immigrants are often to blame. Really.

I don't know if that's the same way up there, but here Japanese immigration is quite recent (started around 105 years ago) and the goal of those immigrants was to come here, make money and then get back. There are several nuclea where they live apart from the rest of us (which, ironically also happens when Brazilians go to Japan, heh), although it's not so usual anymore. But the first impact remains. I reckon people sometimes see the CJK-blooded people as exotic and stuff not only because of their different look (which, is roughly speaking, just the narrow eyes) but because of the history of their immigration.

Sincerely, I've got many Asian friends and many times I've heard the word "Gaijin" (outsider) from the older generations (or to racist ones) to anyone who was not Asian. I don't mind (at all) but I reckon it's small things like these that makes integration difficult.

I think mndeg is taking this WAY too seriously. This is America, where our humor is based off of making fun of people. I may be 100% Korean, but I try to keep a diverse group of friends. They may call me "gook", or "dog-eater", then I just reply with a set of stereotypes back at them. We both have a good laugh, and just move on. It's not that big of a deal. Men rip on each other all the time. Stop being a pussy.

And I don't think discrimination is limited to America, alone. I'm pretty sure discrimination would happen in asian countries as well. It's kinda strange how asianly homogenized the Asian countries are.

I could also care less about the representation of asian women in the media. Most of what's shown on TV is probably mind-rotting bullshit anyways (except for some of the stuff on Comedy Central). As tranceaddicts, don't we all have some form of hatred against MTV's commercialism and whatnot?

I think mndeg here needs a lesson on Social Darwinism.

me, if i make fun of someone i have the decency to do it to their face. of course it is usually someone i well aquainted off and then they make fun of me or not. shite, i make fun of my self and my spanish background, just for fun and giggles.

concerning racism, you would be surprised how many people are racist against their own ethnicity, black against black, asian against asian, hispanic against hispanic, well you get the picture.

As for the ad, that guy doesn't really come across as gay. He looks like a regular guy I could see walking on campus... I wonder if he knew what he was posing for. Personally, I dress nicely(when I feel like it)because I don't want to look like I just woke up and threw whatever I had piled at the foot of the bed on.

I can see an above average asian girl walking into a store and all the guys(regardless of race)will look over... put a good looking asian guy in the same spot and no one will notice. In America, I don't really see white girls(or other nonasian girls)really flocking to us asian men. Out of all the girls I've gone out with, only one(a cute hispanic with a very nice ass), was the only one that initiated interest first. Surprised the hell out of me!

My circle of friends is pretty diverse, a few white guys, a few black guys, and some whitewashed asian guys. I'm white-washed myself... although my parents are always saying, "You will never be white. You should never try to be white. You don't have a high nose bridge. You don't have blonde hair." What can I say? They are immigrants, came here in '79; and can be pretty ignorant at times(especially to blacks-I blame the media for that). My sisters put light brown streaks in their hair at times and my mom is always saying, "Make it black again. The old folks won't appreciate it."

The only remotely asian thing I do is drive an import... toyota mr2 turbo; at least it's not a honda civic. Currently fixing it up(not ricing it out)to kick some V8 ass... nothing feels better than leaving a mullet wearing camaro or mustang driver back at the lights. However, the most satisfying kills are big old raised trucks with their confederate flags...

And to anwer the question in topic... he is asian.

I see myself as an American first, then asian second... although a lot of ignorant people will still call me chinese I'm not even chinse!!! Nobody's done it yet, but for future reference, when you refer to an asian person, please just call them 'asian'... don't use the word oriental. Oriental is extremely derogatory and is a word useds to describe objects, not a person. And asia is more than just China and Japan... ok? I swear it seems that's what most Americans know... "are you chinese?" no, "are you japanese?" no, "then what the hell are you?"...

I agree media to some extent focuses on asian women instead of men, but they do that for all the races. That's because guys prefer to watch hot women instead of men. But there are exceptions to every rule "...ladies and gentlemen i give you William Hung." I have a few male, asian friends who are attractive and believe me even white women go out with them *gasp*. Just because the media doesn't portray it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Btw, TV doesn't equal reality. I agree with mndeg that there are strereo types in the media, but i don't share his xenaphobic attitudes he derives from it.
