John 00 has his own style which happens to bore the panty-liners off me

hm i like j00f seen him live once b4 3 years..i liked him i think but havent heard him since that..
on topic: i think that tiesto lost his style a long way back
he said that he wanted to change style and so he did
i dont say i like that dark tech/trance style but i would still pay to go and see tiesto..

I think that Tiesto is still in the running for DJ Mags Top 100 DJ's (aka...the DJ Popularity Contest) simply because he has two hugely anticipated releases coming out this year: "Just Be" and "In Search of Sunrise 4"

I'd say he has a pretty decent shot at doing it again this year. Aparently he Just Be has a lot of tech-trance stuff in it (which is becoming quite popular I have noticed) and ISOS is a charished series of great trance and I'm sure he'll knock that one out of the park (at least with his track selection).

Paul van Dyk will give him a run for his money but since PvD doesn't release mix comps (anymore) and the fact that "Reflections" wasn't oooed and ahhhed over the popularity contest probably won't be in his favor as far as marketing goes. Armin won't touch the #1 spot for a few more years and Ferry won't either, but he is gaining major credit for his electro style.

The only significant changes in the DJ Top 100 list will be the rise of Marco V, James Holden, James Zabiela, Junkie XL and a few others.

Tiesto may still be # 1 this year...I'm willing to bet he still has enough steam to pull it off.

Thank you, and it took 3 pages worth of posts for somebody to get this right. Quite sad actually. I'm amazed at the amount of people who base the Top 100 DJ list off of the artist's productions and remixes. DJing and producing are two totally different things, so think that when you go to vote in this year's poll.

Hear hear.

I think Zabiela has a pretty good shot at the 2004 crown. At least he'd deserve it. Tiesto will probably win it though. As was said above, ISOS4 will probably make every trancer kid cream their pants enough to vote for him. Either Tiesto or Markus Schulz, that's my guess. Coldharbour Sessions and the GDJBs / McProg movement make him a pretty good canidate.

Yeah right, it's all a popularity contest really. Although I do think there are a few people who actually vote based on DJ talent. I say this because people like Sasha and Zabiela make the list.

Both are well known, but alot of people claim to not like them...yet they still rack up the votes.

1. Everyone expects every damn Tiesto production to be top-notch, stellar, etc. SORRY, it NEVER works that way. And that's for every artist in every genre. Once someone releases a couple not so great tracks in a row, they suddenly suck to you all. Give me a f'in break.

2. With his DJing, with 90% of you it goes with this timeline:

Last month: Tiesto is the shit! He is awesome!
This month: Tiesto sucks these days! He can't mix!
Next month: (After seeing Tiesto or hearing some recent mix of his) -- OMFG I DIE! Tiesto just played the best set ever. The energy was intense. Best night ever!!!

I wish everyone would just stop the bashing (and this goes with anyt DJ...OK, other than Oakey )

If he wasn't the #1 DJ in the world, you all wouldn't be saying anything bad about him. Get over it.

Well said mang

Actually half of the reason why djs get into that poll is because of their productions. G&D are absolute shait at mixing but they managed to make it. Paul van dyk is a good dj mainly because he owns a record label and edits the tunes he plays not because he can really mix perfect. When people vote they see how many cool tunes he played, how many on his name and hoow many albums; not how well queued was that tune etc. If this was true then turntableist djs will make it to the top 100

Posted by Twoces on Apr-14-2004 10:58:

Isn't this all kind og trivial though? I mean if Tiesto is ranked #1 or not is it goiing to change anything? Not really, but I guess it is fun to specualte, but the point is there are many DJs capable of throwing down some wicked sets. I'm against giving someone an official title of #1.

at the end of the day i think most people would prefer a night with great tunes and slightly bad mixing as opposed to a night with great mixing and slightly bad tunes.

Come on mikel stop being a trance addict, we all know you have exams!!!

Posted by denys envy on Apr-14-2004 12:21:

you know what, i won't even read the whole post and say this.

Tiesto has sucked from the beginning. The only good song he ever put of is Traffic and even now that's old. He hasn't dipped into any other genres, he's way to expensive to sign for any good events and just plays his own shit now.

Don't get me wrong I love trance. But for me the best DJ in the world skillwise is Mauro Picotto. He can remix anything, and he can mix everything.

to say tiesto sucked from the beginning is really a childish thing to say. maybe you dont like him, but your opinion does not make it a fact.

he has been one of the most influential producers and DJs ever, some of his sets (especially the older ones) are fantastic. production wise he has pretty much done anything that could be done and the fact his style has been copied over and over again is a reflection of that.

That's not entirely true. G&D do alot of experimental stuff that most of the other DJs don't, such as acapellas and have a diverse sound to each of their sets playing everything from house to hip-hop to pop and it all flows together smoothly.

And this is the guy that said that the only dj he has seen live is Benny Benassi because he's underaged.

First of all, over the past four years I've seen Tiesto live over 20 times and Picotto live over 6. I've heard more trainwrecks from Mauro, no doubt about it. There are many techno djs more technically talented than Picotto (Varela, Beyer, Clarke, Liebing, Rush, Mills etc.).

Secondly, TRAFFIC his only good track???

And last but not least, Tiesto is the leading innovator of Dutch trance. Even suggesting that he doesn't delve into other genres is offensive. I recommend you search on the people's reaction when tracks like Flight 643 came out over 3 years ago. It caused a riot and threads like this one started ever since. Or when he started playing Gatex in 2002, or all of the Max Walder/Frank Biazzi, even Plastikman techno. Hells, he has even played acid like when he started with Hardfloor in Amnesia last summer. Breaks, prog, techno, you mention it. Tiesto is one of the most inconsistent djs ever, to say that he always plays the same style is a hugely ignorant overstatement, and just proves that you don't have a clue.

And people have a right to criticize his current stuff or after 2002 when his mixing started slacking off. But to say that he has sucked from the beginning? WTF. Have you heard Innercity 1999, Energy 2000, ISOS 2, Magik 1-6?

I have Trance Energy, Sensation, and dance valley DVDs, tons of mp3s to run my Final Scratch and livesets that would fill up your harddrive. don't tell me what i have and haven't seen. Yes it's a totally different experience live but from what i have from Tiesto he sucks, AvB and PvD are much better in their selection of music and quality of mixing. and I don't give a f*ck about the history of him, I'm just saying from what's going on. His shit sucks too, it's really all the same and the only track that I've truly enjoyed is Traffic, judge my "trance taste" wrong but here's my current top 5 tracks:
1. Jens - Loops & Things
2. Planet Kaos - Sunburn
3. Dallas Superstars - Helium
4. Oceanlab - Satellite
5. Radiotrance - Palevo
ohh and can't forget #6. DJ Sammy - Boys of Summer!!! it r0x0rs!!!
