-- Calling all techno junkies, prog heads, house freaks and other elitists in general...
Pages (4): « 1 2 [3] 4 »
Hip hop:
Mc hammer - U Can't Touch This
xzibit - papparazzi
You might find the following two threads helpful for progressive trance (I put a good-sized list of tracks in both, with a few errors, in retrospect):
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=137340
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...?threadid=75672
As for "favorites" of the genre, I would propose the following as essentials:
Space Manoeuvres - Stage One
Bedrock - Heaven Scent
Sasha - Xpander (which you already have)
Tilt - I Dream (Tilt's Ressurection Mix)
Libra pres. Taylor - Calling Your Name (ORIGINAL Mix)
Andy Ling - Fixation (I'm assuming you wouldn't want overlap with Ishkur, but Fixation really is a class example of progressive trance)
And to a lesser degree:
Cass & Slide - Perception
Origin - Wide Eyed Angel
Sander Kleinenberg - My Lexicon
I could go on and on, but I'm trying to be as concise as possible. Tilt, John Graham, Bedrock, Breeder and Evolution were all the real heart of the genre until they all went dark when epic trance blew up (Except for Evolution, which still hangs on to a progressive trance sound).

| Originally posted by basd Some other techno genres you should consider are acid techno and hard techno (the utter crap Rush, Remus, Stephan & Vincent de Wit,... are spitting out, and which sounds like a chainsaw attack to a metal plant to me).. Can't really give you any recommendations on those subgenres though.. |

Also, I don't know if this warrants another genre, but there was a distinct class of music in the late nineties that belonged to Christopher Lawrence, Deepsky, X-Cabs, and Chris Cowie. The Hook label was the epicenter of the sound, with Fragrant close behind. There used to be a good concentration of it on the Psychotrance compilations. It was close to progressive trance, but too hard and acidy to be classified in the same category as the tracks I put in my last post.
Some key tracks are:
Deepsky - Stargazer (Original/X-Cabs Remix)
Deniro - Mind of Man
Christopher Lawrence - Renegade
Taylor - Slide
Joshua Ryan - Pistolwhip
Just something to look into if you're intent on being as detailed as possible. The sound was centered on the desert rave culture of the American southwest, mainly out of Southern California, before all the artists got caught in the progressive house movement (except for Lawrence, who generally stayed the course except got a bit harder).
Your hard trance choices are a bit shit to be honest. I'd recommend Scot Project- Overdrive and Altitude- Altitude (SHOKK Remix) rather than Yves Deruyter.
What about Cybertrance? I've heard everything Mars plays is cybertrance... example Mars - Garden of Eden... check out http://www.frequency-8.comhttp://www.frequency-8.com for samples of this genre.

Thanks for the hints, keddo
And don't worry, I've got all these sub-genres in mind

Well, my problem with hip hop is that I don't know the genres: I know there's the "West Coast Hip-hop", the "East Coast Hip-hop", "g-funk" and so many genres... unfortunately neither allmusic guide nor Audiogalaxy's descriptions (R.I.P.) seem to be reliable. | quote: |

As for the unknown genre, I believe you may be talking about dark trance (I know some deepsky tunes that can be labelled as so), but I don't want to confirm before checking again.

Sorry I had to get your attention...lol...so go back to the page where I posted my list and you will see it is updated and completed for you. I'm sorry to tell you that Break Beat + Psy-Trance doesn't exist. There are a very very very select few groups that incorporate some break beat and even elements of drum and bass in SOME of their songs but as an actual genre that is significant enough to even mention Break Beat + Psy-Trance isn't one of them. Please don't even bother or I will break a vase over your head ![]() As for psy-chillout (aka psy-ambient)...I included that in my update for you, quite a bit actually. As for plain ol' Ambient NOT related to psy-trance, I have no freakin clue. Enjoy brotha! |
