It's funny to me that after nearly a decade where people bashed the Reform party, nearly all their campaign platforms and ideals are being hailed as the savior of Canadian policitcs by both people on the Liberal and Conservative side of the spectrum.

Right of recall, deficits, fiscal responsibility, better justice system and management of our social and health care programs, and the most important one, keeping government in the hands of the people.

And to Rocco, if you can't read, those in this thread "bitching" are the ones proposing ideas and pushing for change. That, coupled with the right to vote, is all you can do as a normal citizen of this country. You, being a pro on bitching on this forum, should watch where you throw stones, especially with that nice glass house you live in.

This is why i say a general strike would put the power back in the hands of the people for the cost of a day's wages.

well ok ... gotta wake some ppl up here in Canada first though!

Posted by rabbitjoker on May-18-2004 02:22:

I suspect that tomorrow will be a very bad day. Increased taxes and fees - with the effect only to be seen months from now when consumer spending drops as a result (taking the economy with it).

Not to mention the fact that the liberals have been spending away in the last 7 months to inflate the deficit as high as possible so that they can "justify" the cash grab about to be handed down tomorrow.

Open your wallets. The days of keeping the money you work hard for are over. This is the end.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end.

To quote the immortal Abe Simpson, "President??? We have a whole system built to keep ppl like you from becoming President!! Quit your daydreaming knucklehead"

Agreed but how do we wake people up?

As for the former post. I have always voted reform ever since i started voting in 1993. Sadly no party exists in Canada that holds my views entirely. Namely fiscal conservatism but liberal social policies.

This is what the liberal party is SUPPOSED to be but unfortunately they are not. The closest anyone comes to how i think in Canada are conservatives.

Evil1

Liberals are teh corrupt

Lieberals

Fiberals

Posted by Jayx1 on May-18-2004 02:49:

They are all pretty bad... sadly the liberals are #1 at it though yet we are stupid enough to keep voting them back in.

Posted by Jayx1 on May-18-2004 11:36:

Its budget day! Lets see what the Fiberals have in store for us.

I cant wait to fork over even more of my hard earned money so they can give it to "artists" and "homeless people"

hey wait, what do you do that is so necessary for the country?

Posted by Jayx1 on May-18-2004 12:25:

what is necissary? Not wasting my money on stupid things. For example, we spend 10s of millions per year on "homeless people" in toronto alone yet the problem keeps getting worse. WHY? because we arent addressing the actual needs of the homeless people. Instead we keep wasting money on programs that dont work.

Thats just 1 thing i can start on...

I agree...and it's not just the homeless program...apparently we have the so called "Programs" for every single thing in this damn province...except the interesting thing is that these "programs" never seem to work and are pure waste of money.
High school and university students could do all these "programs" better than any idiot that gets paid 60K/Year and do nothing...UGH! Stupidity...all I hear is programs here programs there...how about actually DOING something

i'm just wondering since you are so aggressive on these issues. what do you do to make things better in this country? complaining about it on a message board isn't much. do you have some sort of high society job that provides a service for me or anyone else? you are telling us we have to revolt and stop caring about the arts and homeless people. most people don't chose to be homeless or are too sick to realize they even are homeless.

do you have to have a 'high society' job to be a benifit to this country?

the person making your burger isnt doing something for you or anybody else in the country?

remember almost any job deemed legal is a benifit to this country, or someone for that matter, otherwise people would not be willing to PAY them for their efforts. basic economics.

and about these artist...if the 'starving artist' stereo type holds true, maybe its cause people arent paying them for their services, which obviously means, they arent appreciated as much, which obviously means its not a valued service/product. Why do doctors get paid lots? cause people VALUE the service. Its life, you get paid for how much you, your work is in demand. Should tax payers be forced to subsidise people who are working in professions which are not valued? Why not give extra money to people who's jobs are valued?

half the time people arent even paid well cause of a lack of education/training, like people in retail. Often times, artists have gone to schools, and have education in their field, and are still not being paid well. why not help out a single mother of 2, who works at Zellers, and cannot get paid more because she doesnt have the option of going to school? I think that would more of a benifit then handing money over to artists.

Posted by ShadoWolf on May-18-2004 15:17:

message boards are designed for people to bitch on

stop bitching about the bitching!

I was just trying to find out where this guy was coming from. That is all. I never said that people that make burgers aren't doing me a service, they are. And they are also paying taxes too. And it isn't even what you do at work, it is what you do in general. You must live by what you say. Again, bitching about this sort of stuff on a message board is good but only if something comes of it.

I have a feeling that there is going to be some artists that are going to take offense to your comments. I am not an artist and I know nothing about it so maybe someone else can.

Do you really want Canada to be full of money grabbing workaholics and you want Canada not to have any sort of culture? You take away the opportunity of Canadians to create art, you take away what a country is. Canada is very underdeveloped in many aspects of culture.

And my view point about the homeless still stands. If you don't do anything, then it is not going to go away. At least they are trying and we will learn the best way to help these people eventually. No where in the world have they figured out this problem.

Posted by crazedcanuck on May-18-2004 17:44:

Just an aside on the homeless situation in the city, the problem isn't that we spend money on it, but that we don't.

Most of the funds budgeted for it goes towad endless studies and surveys, instead of formulating a process of working towards a solution, endless data is gathered, and then gets lost in the many levles of beauocracy.

As is typical with politics these days, eveyone is afraid to simply do something for the fear of making a mistake and sinking for it. It's part of the reason we get soundbyte politicians.. they don't have any answers.. any ideas.. just fancy promises of a perfect world that they have no intent of trying to deliver.

Precisely whats wrong with having a strong work ethic?

Ok, so hold on. If we cut funding to artists, every single iota of culture in Canada is just going to evaporate? No... I think what he's talking about is not handing out art funding for every single self proclaimed artist out there. Theoretically I could go home right now, smear random crap on a page and call it "art", do I deserve a grant?

And yet our cultural richness and diversity is praised throughout the international community...

I don't think he's asking us to ignore them; I think he's asking for us to start from scratch and approach it with newer, more efficient programs.

you have been greatly mislead. Our art and music and literature is nowhere near levels of other countries. And I'm not talking USA here but legitimate art communities.

I'm not saying our art/music/literature/film output is anywhere near the level of another nations. I'm saying that the fact that we're so damned diverse is praised.
