I hope you are right for one...

But for me the big picture is much scarier... I look at it as big brother nanny state cauddling it's citizens. As if we cant make our own choices.

But thats a whole other Jerry Springer show...

all i can say is thank fuck there will be no smoking.

i am a smoker ive been smoking for 10 years and im 21 now.. and i am really glad that this law is taking place,, i am planning on quitting on the 1st of june,, i find that the things that have made me continue to smoke after i try to quit is, smoking in bars and clubs,, those are the main places i want to smoke,, but people that are social smokers,, wont have to "socially smoke" i think that all in allits a good thing to pass not only for me , but for everyone else,, and i really dont think clubs are going to suffer,, its like this almost everywhere else,, except for montreal,, but you cant stop the french from smoking,, if people are going to stay home and not go out because they cant have a smoke for 8 hours or so,, thats pretty damn lame,, and i hate lame people so its better if they stay home. plus, more than 40% dont smoke,

EWWWWWWWWWWWW COOTIES

WHat's really gross is when you're dancing by a gino and you're getting literally showered by his sweat every time he moves. If that's not hazardous to your health then what is.

I totally understand where you are coming from, because you think this is going to majorly effect Toronto in a negative way, including your job. Honestly it's not as big of a deal as you think it is. Once the smokers adjust, like they have where I live, you will appreciate the ban. I Prrrrroooommmiiiiseeee. And if they have to striaght up close the GUV cause of the ban, you can hold me resonsible. lol

i agree, i also think people will adjust.

i like going to new towns where there is no smoking. no more burn marks in my fav sweater!

Posted by JustinStyles on May-21-2004 06:05:

I agree that it will be nice to go into BARS and not leave smelling like smoke! I am used to the burns and just take it in stride.

ANd we aren't all GINOS at all at the DOCKS!

If you want to here more about that, check out my other threads!

I was plugging anything...I was just telling it like it is. We have a HUGE patio and if people need somewhere to smoke and listen to wicked tunes by the lakeside...go there...if not....don't!

Peace

I just think it's alot better if there is a designated smoking area or patio, so that non-smokers don't have to die because of YOUR second-hand smoke!

Thank you for taking the words right out of my mouth. The same goes for SF and NY.

My friend in Buffalo who runs a restuarant/bar says business has been off at his restaurant by 25% since this law came in a year ago and its never recovered. He said its the same all over town.

Also, ive heard from many sources that many people simply go to New Jersey now from NYC when they want to go out.

Who would have thought that Jersey was the land of freedom?

Enough with your crusade already, I already posted an entire essay that debunked every single whiny complaint you had about smoke-free laws hurting business. Statistics across the board, not just in California, have shown that business has generally gotten better in the hospitality industry after passing those laws, not worse.

Just shut up. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about and neither does the average bar owner. They love to complain, but whenever it comes time to actually produce some documentation to prove that they've lost business, suddenly they don't want to participate in any study. Wow what a concept - but no, clubs never cook the books, no sir. They run squeaky-clean businesses, how dare the government interfere with their daily operation!

how dare the government interfere! COMMUNISTS!

I find it ironic that we are all complaining about saving our health by having smoking ban, meanwhile the majority of us have taken or do take substances that are way more hazardous to our health.

STFU. What ever happened to A HAPPY FUCKING WORLD.

BOTTOM LINE, IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT GO, DONT LISTEN, DONT DO IT.

OH, OK, so i guess statistics created by a government are so unbiased that we should believe them.

Dont be niave. Your govt likes to fuck with you.

it's about choice!

It's YOUR decision to do drugs. It's YOUR decision to smoke, but smoking happens to affect other people. So what gives you the fucking right to push the second hand smoke on me and put my health at risk?

This statement is so full of shit you have no fucking clue.

Nobody that lives in Manhattan would ever go to NJ to party and especially not because you can smoke over there... NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS.

-Your Mother

Posted by Jayx1 on May-22-2004 04:27:

Maybe not people in OUR scene. But newsflash... most people do not belong to OUR scene. So yes, most people WOULD go over to Jersey because its smoking allowed

As for Diginut: yes bar owners know nothing.... they have absolutely no idea who their patrons are and what kind of business they do. They also have no idea about how much money comes into their business and when.

But the government knows all i guess..

I have some advice for you...Move to Cuba!

Notice how all the old cronies at union station broke provincial liquor laws by toasting the new city smoking laws with alcohol in a public place?

Hey, if this is a sign that they are willing to drop all the repressive liquor laws we have im willing to make the exchange!

Posted by Jayx1 on May-22-2004 17:42:

That article about New York City only tells half the story. I saw this when it came out and the critism was that they didnt include nightclubs and bars in this statistic. Restaurants will naturally do better because they are not nightspots in general. The same with some bars. WHat this didnt show were clubs and bars (bars are designated as places that sell 60% or more alcohol for all sales). Apparently business is down 20-30% and has never recovered. This can be varified personally by my friend in Buffalo who sees the numbers to his restaurant/bar all the time. He says the numbers have never recovered.
