... what treacks did he drop?
Not terribly upset I missed this but....
all depends on what you define as a great dj... is it crowd interaction? crowd energy / size? track selection? mixing?
I'd say a great dj usually has them all. Sounds like Tijs got 3/4, which is good... just not great.
can't wait to see the rest of the opinions from last night
Oh well....it is the last time I am going out to Vision for a while anyway, the place is just starting to bother me.
I guess if I was really in a partyin sort of mood I would have enjoyed it, but alas, I was really just there because I had already paid for it and I felt I "had to" see him.
On that note, it is breakfast/lunch time.
MrS
unlike many of you, i have no real techy knowledge about what constitutes good mixing, etc. but i totally enjoyed the tracks, energy, and crowd/DJ interaction. tiesto rocked vision way better than avalon in NYC (there seemed to have been a major trainwreck there
). plus, the sound system, lighting, and overall club layout seemed a lot better at vision than avalon. i guess that's what makes it a mega-club
. i danced my ass off and got lost in the music i love, and that to me is what a good night out is all about.
i'm terrible at ID'ing tracks, but I do remember Intergalatic, Traffic and Perfect Wave (which sounded f*cking incredible in the club!)
There was also "Forever Today" and the encore track was "Adagio For Strings". But he seemed to just stop halfway through "Adagio for Strings" and end the set right there which kinda ended the show on a bad note cause we were just left hanging...
P.S. I'm also terrible at ID'ing tracks
Poor to bad set
i have never posted on this board before, but have been reading for a while. This was my forth time seeing tiesto, and i have to say this was probably the worst i have seen him. He started out really weak i felt and took forever to get going. Then, his mixing was not there, and appeared to just be playing CD's all night. Both time i went up to the second floor and looked over teh DJ booth there were no records on the turntables.
His last hour I did enjoy though, played alot of good tracks. The ending i could not belive though. Only one encore and when he stopped halfway through Adagio for Strings, it really pissed me off. The best part of that track is the last. For the number one DJ, i felt his set was poor. Armin's set kicked Tiesto's $@ a few weeks ago.
hmmm, not too upset i missed this one.
what song did he open with?
First time posting here. Set seemed pretty good on the floor, but I went up near the booth toward the end and it seemed like he had too much to drink or something was going on. He smashed one of his records and then continued to play some good tracks, but seemed to be more interested in talking to people and concentrating on those girls who were up there, barely having the next song on cue before the current track ran out. Better set overall than Armin (though hearing Communication was great then) but Armin was a bit friendlier with the fans after his set. Then again I'd probably be concentrating on groupies too if I were the #1 DJ in the world and not #3,294,931.
well, personally, i didn't enjoy. i think i'm in the same boat as MrS in saying i stayed to try and get my moneys worth. i never really was a tiesto fan and never saw him live, but thought i'd give him a chance. i didn't do much more than some head bobbing here and there. most of the people on the second and third floors looked more bored than i've seen at other shows. however, the people on the main dancefloor were going nuts. tiesto was very interactive as usual, and def had a little something in him. what thing that did bother me was how he was trying to hide everytime he took a drag of a cigarette off someone. its like the total opposite of sasha
visuals were great as usual. i dont know, maybe i was just all tranced-out by saturday
even though i didn't really like the set, it'd be interesting to get a hold of it. looks like it was recorded with the crowd since
a) MrS pointed out the two laptops on the third floor
b) there were no nitrous blasts to interefere with the mics i noticed hanging above the mainfloor
EDIT: oh yeah, snagged a few clips. you know where to find 'em

over the years. And I can say the best I saw him was in Holland like 3+ years ago... was amazing.

Hey,
Where can i get some pics of the night? I personally noticed about 3-4 people with camera's or video cameras....let me know if you know. Thanks

Oh wow I'm so fucking hungover. Spent shitloads of money drinking yesterday at the gay pride parade / afterwards. Drinking from 12 - 12 on a sunday and blacking out is bad news. So is having your shirt taken off and having lots of men taking pictures of you
Haha it was fun anyways.
Okay so review of Tiesto - getting VIP was a total waste since my friends and I were up there for like 10 minutes all night, I didn't even use all of my drink coupons. Everyone was getting really restless during the opening DJ which is understandable, but IMO he wasn't very impressive anyways. He was playing better tracks earlier on then kinda killed the vibe of the whole place up until he played Tomaz vs Filterheadz - Sunshine which was a fucking stormer. Then that breaks track to set the mood for Tiesto.
So-so effort by "#1 DJ." Spent way too much time just fucking around talking to people in the booth and didn't really interact with the crowd for shit until a bit at the end. Total primadonna. He played some really good tracks which I would like to get ID'd and his mixing was decent so I was impressed. I went in with no expectations and I actually had a really fun time. Talked to a lot of random people who actually knew the music and weren't there just to be trendy which was nice. Spent a lot of the time in front of the back right speaker which in retrospect was a terrible idea. I could go on and on with my critique of this night but I won't bore y'all with it

I remembered more at the time but after a weekend of getting just stupid I kinda forgot a few, they'll come to me as time passes.
Hope you all had a good time. Kristin check your PMs.
From the reviews, I take it that I made the right choice by going to PVD in NYC...f'ing incredible
Probably better musically than anything I've seen including his Vision set.
blah
Well I was a little unimpressed with the #1 DJ in the world. He started off great I mean Nothing(93 returning mix!!!!!), but not long after that it was down hill, dont get me wrong it was awesome hearing love comes again, traffic and forever today in the club. I think he got really fucked up and wasnt even beat-matching half the mixes. There were also girls in the booth all over him.
Ill have to agree with MR. S and Everything0 about how packed it was, I had like 5 people ask if "thats tiesto" about the openers, who I wasnt feeling at all. Lots of people just standing on the dance floor. Its cool they were recording the show though. I didnt see anybody from the board, I was looking to say hi to you UWM, but Ill see you at the next show.
After the show I did secure the record he smashed, it was Fictivision Vs Phynn "Escape", I did get it signed, but he would not sign my poster or come out for pictures, he just sat behind the booth with his grey goose and his lady friends. From watching his Dvds and reading stuff form these boards I would have thought him to be much friendlier, but I think alot of his fans were dissapointed with this show. I guess being number one has gotten to his head. Oh well Armin and Ferry are still awesome and very friendly Ill stick to them. Even with all of this I still had a great time thanx to Red Bull and Absolute and the Bar tender behind the DJ booth only charges 11 for doubles!!
Ill post some pics soon
Neil
sounds like a made a smart move in forgetting to buy tickets to tiesto.
I didn't know he busted a vinyl....that must have been after I left.
He did have the same vinyl on the right hand TT for the better part of the first hour of his set wihch he would let just spin and then occasionally put the needle back to the start and move it back and forth, as if to mimic actually doing something.
He also leaned over and appeared to lick the needle on that same turntable early in his set.
I just realized looking through my wallet that I had forgotten the 2 "Free entry before 12" passes that the nice lady with the clipboard taking email addresses gave me before I got inside....so I guess I will eventually get my money's worth out of the show after all.
MrS
Well Armin, Ferry & PVD were certainly more friendly when I saw them and it was an expensive night, but nevertheless it was still a good time and taught me never to drink as heavily playing tracks as I do while watching others. One thing that I do appreciate is that Tiesto does play a few songs that he produced. It's great to hear new songs & have diversity , but it's also nice to hear a few songs from the producer. They seem to get into it a little more and everyone's bound to know it. Even a smashed Tiesto seemed to enjoy playing Traffic!
lots of mixed reviews on tiesto at vision. i saw him at bleu the next night and i must say it was complete set. he really seemed into the crowd, mixing was good, and track selection was stellar. tiesto seems to be running hot and cold lately, and he does get smashed alot at his shows.
It's good to go to stuff like this with no expectations because then you can't have a bad time
There's one record I really want ID'd it's feckin pissing me off I've had the melody in my head since Saturday.
I'll say it again though the guy who was opening right before Tiesto pretty much sucked. The dancefloor had no energy by like 1:15.
Well, it was my first time seeing Tiesto and my first time to Vision and I'd have to say it was a pretty good nite. I can't rate Tiesto's performace that accurately seeing as I only stayed for maybe an hour of his set. My girlfriend was feeling to well so we decided to jet at about 3 or so. The openers were good and I was getting a pretty good vibe from most of the stuff they played, however, I think I got asked at least 5 times if tiesto was playing. After about the last time (which happened to be a time when lacosta was on the decks) I almost asked the person if they thought Tiesto was some little red headed guy.
I went VIP which I was a but disappointed with having had little to no use for the VIP area (aside from the uncrowded rest room) and I managed to drop 2 of my drink tickets at some point in the nite which was a bit of a downer. Overall the nite was good, I got a poster off of the 3rd level and drank a little to much and danced and had fun. A bit of a shame I couldn't have stayed the whole nite but maybe next time. Oh and one question, do the headliners always come on that late at Vision??
Depends on who they are, but usually it is earlier, like around 1.
Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I'm new around here.
I was at the show too. I had seen PVD in April, then Armin in May, and just had to go see Mr. #1 when I found out he was going to be at Vision.
I was sort of disapointed by the entire show. I remember looking over the dancefloor at one point while Gary and Dimitri were up, and 95% of the people on the floor were just standing around. When Tiesto finally came out that changed very quickly, but over the course of the night his selections weren't that great.
I think that was a big factor in it cause Jerry Bonham had me and my buddy dancing our asses off before PVD got up, and when I took my girl to see Armin, we danced the entire time Mazi was on. I think we danced from the time Mazi came out, 11:00pm or so, till nearly the end of Armin's set.
Tiesto didn't seem to be that interested in the crowd either. It was like he was having his own little party in the booth for most of the night. PVD and Armin were very focused on the crowd for most of the night, and had better sets as far as I was concerned.
I'm not saying I didn't like it cause I still had a very good time, but maybe I just set my expectations a little too high as someone else mentioned.
I was pretty stoked about managing to get his autograph after waiting behind the booth for nearly 45 minutes though.
