WTF is "reverse racism?"

newsflash: racism is not defined as whites being prejudiced to blacks.

your posts get more and more insightful.

it might be ethnocentric, but it still doesn't change the fact that its a reversal of traditional discrimination. the development of the western world has been dominated by people from european descent which is traditionally caucasian. Because of this, and more particularly in the united states since that seems to be the debate, a reversal of the discrimination is evident.

i think that you're taking our term reverse racism to be mean something more than it is...if you're saying that racism is discrimination against a people on the basis of race and other ethnic issues, then i say that reverse racism is simply the reversal of that discrimination towards the group that was formerly the discriminating class. it has nothing to do with race. the only reason that we are atributing it to race, in this case african americans, is because of the society that we are discussing. it surely can be used in other situations and other cultures, but we're talking about primarily the united states and western europe.

Well that would be transverse racism obviously.

edit: I shall return to this after Big Brother. Too much heavy thinking

Because we are using this particular statement in reference to American History. If it was in a global aspect you would be correct. But it isnt. The framework put strictures on the terms and binds them. It makes it so the first "people" (disregarding the Native Americans, also in the aforementioned Societal Framework) were White English colonials. Thus them bringing blacks here would be the instigation of American Racism as we know it.

exactly...however i wouldn't say that it is because we brought blacks to the states or who pocessed the land first...more so who was in an original position of power over the other and thus able to have influence over them...

well thats just a general way of saying the same thing , Id say if you were a slave owner you had power over the slave. You are right in stating the general aspect of the power/struggle formation, it just happened to work out to be whites owning blacks.

Posted by JayD on Jun-22-2004 22:55:

Man to be honest, if you go an search for Aldrian's threads, 98% of them are rants about shit in society he doesn't like.

Maybe you should just change your nick name to "I Hate Life".

Seriously man. Stop letting stupid shit get to you. If all this little shit bothers you this much now, who knows what your going to do when you run into real problems.

Gah OK but I still don't think it's racist (reversed or otherwise).

Posted by davinox on Jun-22-2004 23:05:

i don't mean to be an asshole, but my friend said a funny comment.

"Blacks should be glad that we inslaved their great great great grandfathers, because if we hadn't, they'd be stuck in Africa fighting for their neighbor's cow, when now they're in America able to get into a college easier than a white guy."

my own oppinions of race are this: who cares? its just a color of skin. people tend to forget this. its not that "the whites screwed the blacks", its that some people screwed other people over.
wow, that's something thats gone on throughout all of human history.

we need to drop this race thing completely. it's ridiculous and backward thinking, and now the US government protects people of all race, so i dont want to hear anyone bitch anymore.

Posted by Aldrian on Jun-23-2004 00:03:

yup

what's funny is that i'm not even white. i'm don't even have the slightest white in me. i'm asian and spanish

but it still pisses me off no matter what.

Posted by Orbax on Jun-23-2004 00:03:

I like your friend

Posted by Aldrian on Jun-23-2004 00:05:

hmmm

are u flaming me tranceyes22? saying some smart remark

Posted by Slylee on Jun-23-2004 02:16:

that's funny shit.

it's more like being racist against a certain, popular "Attitude"...not skin color. it's not about the skin color. at least not for me. i've had lots of african-american, asian and spanish friends in high school. so obviously if i was a big racist, i would hate them all and wouldnt be caught dead around a non white person, and i certainly wouldn't be jammin out to hip hop like i do.

The movie is written and produced by Mexican Americans. The whole point of the movie is to show how important the Mexican community is in America, taking more of a comical approach. I haven't saw it myself, but I at least have enough knowledge about it before I go around and start claiming something racist just because of its title.

bottom line: it's yet another stupid fucking movie that doesn't bring any creativity to the table. It's just a silly concept that will bring 13 year old thugs and their girlfriends to the movies.

not to pick on YOU but I hate how people say they have black friends or whatever so they can say their opinion. You know what? I have ALL white friends. Some German. Racist jokes are our favorite form of entertainment besides drinking and playing FIFA 2k4 (much better than FIFA 2k3 imo). In no way does that take away the validity or logic or statistics behind my words. If I said chickens are fucking stupid and run around when they get their heads chopped off BUT *GASP* didnt have any friends that were chickens does that make me a speciast?

and how can you not like the "attitude" then jam to Hip Hop?!
