It's crap like this that make Merckx and Armstrong the best of the best. FFS make the sport more respectable by limititing the access of idiots such as these. Otherwise the crowd favorite is always going to have an advantage. Given that most of the challenge comes from overseas perhaps I'm not that surprised.

yep that's disgusting

go azevedo! this guy is doing a brilliant tour

Posted by Kurve on Jul-22-2004 11:00:

yeah i thought even one of the 2 stages in the mountains in the south of france when he was riding through all the people with orange shirts it looked as people were spitting on him while he was passing by. People are dirt bags sometimes serious fuckin makes me sick.

Anyhow yeah people were awfully close to the riders in some parts of the time trial i seriously thought people were gonna run into the riders i think they should have some more saftey so no one does anything stupid. Imagine someone knocking armstrong, basso, kloden, ulrich off there bike for them to get back on and get up pace with where they were and with them losing so much energy from it. It could really lose a tour for someone that would be traggic and sad for some idiot to ruin it for someone.

Wow! What an amazing finish by Lance today. Floyd has to be the maaaan. I tell you, once Lance leaves, it's all up to him, and I def. think he has potential.

Posted by BadBadNeil on Jul-22-2004 17:16:

I was sickened by the people spitting on Lance as well, and also saw pictures of people giving him the finger, yelling obcenities, and using the race for political views (saw people wearing "fuck bush" shirts and holding anti american signs) running in front of the camera. I was also a bit perturbed by Hinault downplaying Lance's success because this is the race he practices the most for, as well as Greg Lemond accusing Lance of doping with no proof.

Wow that race was close today. I thought Kloden had it and Lance came out of nowhere.

That's what Lance is all about. I was also disapointed to see all the crap that went on during the time trial. Especially some of the stuff written on the road, such as "EPO Lance" and "F*ck Lance". But I was over it once I saw "Rip their balls off Lance".

Lance was exactly right when he said it wasn't a good idea to have a time trial on that mountain. I was worried that something was going to happen to him. I mean, come on guys, have some respect for the riders, we don't see you out there trying to win the tour 6 times.

Posted by Kurve on Jul-25-2004 16:54:

Congrats to Lance Armstrong 6 straight Tours. Brilliant and truely i think will stand for a long long time. He totally dominated this Tour no one was even close to compete with him this year. Truely Amazing

Congrats to Lance for winning once again, its admirable how much he s done in the last 6 years and all the crap he s had to go through.

Well it's over, another year of the Tour De France, one of my favorite times of the year. Although I didn't see it on TV at all(because i dont get the channel) I listened to it every day. Congrats to Lance, IMO he's the greatest athlete of our era. Congrats also to the other riders who stepped up like Kloden and Basso to make the tour interesting even though many of the big name riders went out early. Also congrats to the machine of a US Postal team, in which everyone saw what they are truly capable of in the last time trial. I hope Lance comes back and wins a seventh and then focuses on other races after that. I also hope the public there treat him with the same respect they give Virenque and Ullrich. (they both used drugs and the public doesn't care, yet nothing has been proven against Lance yet he is vilified).

Don't worry, you still have the Vuelta and the World Championships (in Verona...I'll be there baby. I'm biking from Rome to see it in October). So there's still a lot of racing left. Lance was unreal this year, and it'll be interesting to see what kind of reaction the field will have next year.

Okay, I'm going to go pout some more. I got destoryed in my race this morning. Flat crits don't work well with skinny climbers like me.

What I've seen though French people seem to treat Lance worse than Ullrich and Virenque who are known to have taken drugs in the past. They say Lance doesn't race all the major races of the year so hes not a winner, but a person FROM France Virenque never goes for wins, he only goes for King of the Mountains, does this make him less of a champion? From what I've seen people think too much of tradition in Europe, just take Lance for what he is, a damn good rider who trains hard for his favorite race, and in which he has won 6 times in a row.

It's also important to note that under Chris Carmichael's training system, Lance only peaks for around 6 weeks during the season. With the Giro in May and the Vuelta in August, it would be hard for him to continue peaking throughout this time. Sure, other riders train differently and can peak at a lower level for longer, but I think Lance's domination of the Tour tends to speak volumes for the power of the Carmichael system. It's a question of whether you want to be really good at one event or pretty good at alot. The Merckx era of winning multiple events is coming to a close as cycling has become a sport of year round training. Although physical prowess is important, it's more about timing your peak than anything.

Thumbs down

lance is a legend i wont deny it and i don't think anyone will try to comment about that but as a cyclist ....the human being i don't like him because he doesn't behave like the others usually do ....im a real fan of cycling since im 10 yrs old and i know in the peloton there are rules and for example the tradition is that when a cyclis wears the yellow jersey he usually lets the ones who are far ranked in the general win the stage but it didn't happen this way with simoni because lance hates him since the revelations he made about the US postal but even though what simoni could have said he should have let him won ...and that's an another reason why lance isn't liked in the peloton he is feared and respected but that is .....and i go every year see the tour but lance seems very cold in comparaison with the others cyclists who gonna accept to take pics with the people give some autographs .....lance on the contrary is surrounded by his security guards and is kinda arrogant ....so yeah he is a great cyclist but as the man himself ...i think he should be more human and nice with the people who like cycling for example

Posted by BadBadNeil on Jul-27-2004 16:19:

Its not only that Lance hates Simoni but also that Simoni has sued Lance Armstrong after he made allogations so there is a legitimate reason for their dislike for each other. I think there is more to it than just Simoni accusing Lance of duping. Also don't forget Simoni doing those short breakaways in the final laps around Paris Saturday in spite to US Postal even though usually you don't attack the leaders except during the sprint points.

Lance doesn't sign autographs because US Postal has a regimine that when the race is over they leave as fast as possible to prepare for the next day and get as much rest as possible. Thats the same reason he didn't want the yellow jersey after that first team time trial. You can't blame him for wanting to win and have his team as fresh as possible for the next race. If the Tour was a one day event, i'd say that signing autographs and being with fans would be fine.

wow how pathetic i truely beleive non of your statements have any valid reason to why you think that otherthen seeing the news and hearing from numerous anti lance armstrong fans. I met the guy and been to the tour he is a class act guy really friendly, and yes he signs autographs. And for example mayb you should consider all the inhuman people who think its correct to spit and boo at someone who is trying his best at something he loves. Does he bash anybody??? yeah he was pissed after that stage because shit id be too if i was spit on. If you knew the whole story behind the simioni deal u wouldnt of brought such comments up to the front. If you recall few years back marco pantani who was behind lance in one of the main stages and they went up together and lance let pantani win the stage out of respect to him. People just love to hate any american no matter how hard he trys to be the best in what he loves. Seriously some of you truely are extremely prejudicial of people. DONT DENY IT! because if he wasnt carring the red , white , and blue flag non of this would ever be brought up.

PROPS TO LANCE for being the best in cycling and being a class act, TRUE CHAMPION!

You have to be one of the biggest Anti-american posters on this board. So many of your posts have something negative to say about america and americans. Yet to see any post by you that is actually positive i doubt i will. Oh well

I didn't mention any other teams, they can do what they will but read about the US Postal strategy and you will see that their goals are to leave the event as fast as possible. That is why they have helicopters on the mountain stages and their busses are always parked first in line to leave. This event is not just fun and games, its serious to the US Postal team and it is treated as such. I hardly think its better to spend lots of time signing autographs and posing for pictures if it costs the rest and preparation needed to ride 100+ miles for 20 days as a team.
