Step 1.Borrow Cream Live 2 from a friend just cos the plain white embossed plastic package lookes cool.
Step 2. Buy Cream Anthems '97 the following christmas and hammer the Paul Oakenfold disc.
Step 3. Go to Cream on 28.03.98 to see Paul Oakenfold play as resident in the legendery Courtyard. Playing tunes such as;

But my first album cd was Robert Miles - Dreamland when I was 11 ! I think I have this music in my blood but in France it's impossible to listen to trance!!in the preview of the movie there were two cuts :

Naturally after dicovering PVD I found the other trance DJ's. I think Fery was next followed by Armin then tiesto. Because of my childhood experices and continous passion and love for dance music I found myself waqnting to become a DJ. It is only recently after I started to be a bedroom dj that I became a serious trance addict (i.e. following track lists, knowing artists and labels, knowing all those "newer" djs , etc.) I think dj'ing has made me more of a music freak. |

My first major blow to the head was in a friends car listening to this dude called "Carl Cox" & the tune was Cygnus Xs "The Orange Theme". That was it, after that trance lead my life. 
At first I really hated trance... Or well, I hated Darude, Ian van Dahl, Scooter and that crap on the radio, and I thought that was trance. So I decided that electronic music was crappy.
Then I started listening to Prodigy, and I liked what I heard. And I started playing EVE, that game has very good music And that's how I got into electronic music in general. This was around a year and a half ago.
Someone also sent me an ASYS track around that time and I loved it.
Then I started to listen to di.fm and downloaded some sets and tracks here at TA, and I got hooked. That was ~1 year ago, so I'm still kind of a newbie

WTF! What are you talking about, Darude has lead many people into the trance-scene! Sandstorm on TV started annoying me - ideed - but when you listen to the original mix, you should have known better!

I've answered this question about three times with three songs.
The song that made a trancehead out of me was Perpetuous Dreamer's, "The Sound of Goodbye."
Probably my dad, with all his late 80s/early 90s stuff... ahh, Scatman John...
At least subconsciously for the past 20 years. Oakenfold's Travelling CD triggered my full-blown obsession.
Grace: 'Not Over Yet' (the first time around). It was a combination of hearing this tune and driving across a huge suspension bridge at night with thousands of twinkling lights deep below in the background. It was the first time I'd genuinely felt music.
From then on, I had to hear more of that sort of stuff although none of my mates were into it. Then my girlfriend said "Oh, you mean like this type of thing", played me 'Age of Love' and that was it. Never looked back, still love the music and still with the same girlfriend (we're now engaged to be married).
Sorry 'bout the cheesy answer but it's the truth.

Dune - starchild I listened to it and thought "wtf electronic music is gooood", then I just found trancemaster collections and all the superstar djs...
With strict genres being held, I don't know what would be the first actual trance I listed to. First EM I heard was Wendy Carlos, then Jean Michel Jarre. Do you count '80s New Wave and House? Later Amiga MOD/XM files before MP3 became popular, great experimental stuff, techno, trance, rave, hardcore. Of all things my YOUNGER brother was playing industrial music, Prodigy before it was a guy jumping around a room on a music video, etc. At some point in there I was introduced to Delerium, Robert Miles, Enigma, New Age stuff. Clubs and TV shows like Electric Circus showed more EDM though half the time you didn't know what was playing, just that you liked it. PVD, Oakenfold, Ferry, so on. mp3.com blew the lid off it before it imploded which was too bad with their silly Beam It crap (I didn't want to listen to mainstream, dammit!). I didn't own many EDM CDs until a few years ago as they just weren't around much, most were just a song or two spinning in clubs, not making full albums at the mall music store. '94 and '99 are probably my favorite trance years.
