I agree that polygamous marriage should be legal -- i've thought that for some time now. I myself would never have one, but I don't see why other people should be banned from shacking up with more than one person if they're that way inclined.

Let's have some consistency in public policy, instead of saying it's ok to treat a certain group as second class folk, and not another group.

The polygamy argument isn't as prominent or emotive because 'polygamy' isn't an inherent sexual orientation -- it's just a type of relationship entered into by heterosexuals (or homosexuals in some cases). Because of that, I can't envisage a situation in which there is a big 'polygamous rights!' movement as there is with gays and lesbians at present. But in essence I agree with you, I just think that it's going to take a lot longer to be made legal than gay marriage will.

I think there's also a condition that a human can knowingly consent to a marriage -- and it has to be informed consent. In other words, they actually have to know what they're doing when they agree to get married.

Until someone can demonstrate to me that a parrot has the brain power to actually comprehend language and to rationalize at an adult level, i'm satisfied that a parrot can't consent.

Hm, but how about that gorilla that knows sign language? Ha, gotcha now!

150 years ago Christianity condoned and encouraged racism, and didnt recognize women as people. If you take the bible literally, men are clearly superior to women. And its true of course, we are superior because the bible says it.

Don't worry people, one day people like torontotrance and other religious extremists will come around and rescognize homosexuals are people too and deserve the same rights as we do. And people will recognize, just because they were born a little differently, like black people and women, doesnt mean they dont deserve the same basic human rights white males do.

And its sad really because people like that claim they represent the Christian religion. The christian right isnt the Christian religion. I was born into a Christian (and roman catholic at that) family and community and I so rarely see that kind of bigotry and intolerance. The Christian family, schools and community i was born into promote tolerance and respect for people and their basic human rights. This is why the majority of Canada didnt have a problem when it was legalized. It was the right thing to do.

If you believe homosexuals are born homosexuals and you are Christian, you believe they were made in 'God's image'. If you don't believe they are born the way they are, then go do some homework and read up.

ps. Adam and eve didnt exist.

Can the gorilla in question explain what the word 'marriage' means, or can it simply indicate'yes' when asked if it would like one? Furthermore, can the gorilla actually go up and ask for a marriage, or does it have to be prompted?
