that's not really the issue here. judging by the time the mix appeared in the amateur section, most (not all) tracks were already released on vinyl. but this isn't a case of abusing mp3s, it's about making a demo mix and (trying to) selling it.

im pretty sure destiny has done this for a while where they work with Tripledecks to sell sets from DJs who played @ wemf...i would imagine that they sign a contract stating their wemf set is going to get sold..but then again i really would know...im guessing!

yes, destiny, and every other production company that has live sets up there from there events are with permission from the dj's.

No need to get all like that. Just because a dj gives permission for his set to be recorded does not mean the set may be (legally) sold. Unless the dj would own the rights to every single track played...

what you forget it that being DJ takes alot less talent than being a procuder. what's harder?.. mixing 10 tracks together or producing the same 10 tracks? the record companies or artists own the rights to the tracks not the DJ. If you made a track and i started making money off of it because i in essence just pressed the play button, you'd be pissed to. more than anything, it's illegal. blah blah blah.

Regarding the Mach 3 CD. This CD was given to us by DJ Avro
(we don't dub the CDs ourselves). All our CDs (live & studio) are sold
with the understanding that the DJ (or Promoter) has permission to sell the tracks on the CD. This has always been the case.

It is illegal to re-sell music without the artists permission.

I remember when I was a kid, and I bought my first trance
mixtape (OS/2) at Xtatic (old Toronto store). I used to listen
to it for weeks. I can't imagine what it would have been like
if that store never existed, or if OS/2 didn't make a tape because
he didn't have the right permissions.

We opened TripleDecks.com because I wanted to give people in small
cities (who didn't have access to stores like Xtatic) the same
chance to buy the music I had. We wanted to provide a service, and
that's what we did. Noone got rich off of it.

I understand where everyone is coming from. The store is closing because everyone involved decided it was time to turn another page in their lives and move into something else.

We still like the music, and tranceaddict.com is a great site. Please continue this thread. I enjoyed reading it. It's important to discuss the legality/benefits of this mixtape/mix-CD industry.

is there anything that you can do about this situation with regards to either removing it from sale or taking action against the person who gave it to you on a basis that was obviously false or not checked ?
