Hey all, this is my first post on TA, When i saw tatgirl's name mentioned on this thread i thought she may appreciate this post(she told me i would post here one day). We had many conversations about how sick mauro is as well(some, ironically on a weekend we went to see ferry in toronto), mauro was one of my favorites as well. First time i saw Mauro was at a giant event(2001) downtown(can't remember the name) after they were kicked out of circus and he was amazing. I have heard many live sets of his before then but he was slamming track after track that night and i had the best time. This is where i agree with msjulia and djwoody, mauro WAS sick.

here is where i agree with davet, now if you hear 1 hour of him you can go home as the rest sounds the same. He is just too monotonous now but I also side with the mauro lovers, that ferry has played the same set for 2 years.

If i had to choose, i'd choose ferry, he has more energy on the decks, Mauro used to go nuts but now? Though i have not seen him since last year, he doesn't seem as into it as he used to be. Sorry for the lengthy post.

Ferry has played the same set for two years!?!?

WRONG. If this was like Nov '03, I'd agree. He came to the west coast and played, well, the same stuff over again...but right after that, he basically got a whole new box of records cause all his sets sounded different and AH-MAZE-ING....like EVERY FRICKIN' SET, radio mix, etc...then he came back in February and was COMPLETELY different than in November. I didn't recognize 75% of the tracks, his bin was full of whitelabels while when in November it was tons of released records.

Ferry has been putting in a lot more techno into his sets which have made them insane. Ferry has evolved over the past 10 months, bigtime.

i must agree with Dave on this one.....im realy diggin Ferry's sets from the past year. at trance energy he totaly wowed me. easily the best set of the night! Ferry is without a doubt my favorite Trance DJ!

How about this cd eh?

Posted by DjWoody on Sep-20-2004 21:13:

Now... IT's SUPER OFFICIAL!!!!!!!!!!!! His tour calendar was updated today!!! IT'S THERE!!!!!!!!!

16OCT04 - Los Angeles - USA - Avalon

Damn... that Mexico City gig sounds so fucken tempting!!!! I WANNA GO!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by tatgirl on Sep-20-2004 22:09:

Bottom line folks, no matter which DJ u choose to go see, both events should kick ass (tho I cant comment on the clubs they're playing at or the crowds that will be there).
They are 2 totally different styles, and u can't bash one for liking another more.
As for Mexico City, I had a friend who lived there and they used to bring BIg names out, and no one would show. They just really liked their psy-trance or something. Hopefully things have changed.

Well, i'll take your word for it, i haven't seen him since jan. I have checked his playlists, downloaded a set from russia in july and looked at his panama set from two weeks ago, looks like 50% older tracks to me. I think "jump the next train" is the only recent track he played in that panama set. I hope you are right and i am suprised next month as he is one of my favorites.

Let's hope Mauro plays better than he did tonite in TO. WORST set of the year, hands down. I even walked out after 2 hrs. I'm sure Julia's pissed about flying cross country for that crap. At least she had Tommy's company.

Yes Mauro is a hit/miss.

Last time I saw him I was less than impressed. It was some time ago..a Godskitchen event at the worst place in LA. I forget the name, but he played along w/ D-Fuse.

Funny story about Mauro.

As you know AHP starts at 2am. By this time the Mauro show had ended at the crappy place. Afterwards my friends and I were able to get into the VIP area of AHP.

While listening to Fergie, Mauro walked by. We got to say hi to him. A few minutes later these really hot chicks (I guess they were part of the go-go dancer crew or whatever) walked by and Mauro slid in front of them busting out the cheeziest dance/pick-up move ever. It reminded me of something out of Saturday night Fever. The hilarious thing was the girls gave him this strange look and walked away. I dont think they had a clue who he was

He vanished after that

LOL!

cant believe i miss this thread...and finally finish reading through all the debate bet mauro vs ferry!!

dunno i will make it to this one coz i gotta finish my architecture exams in 6 months

Honestly, it was that atmosphere, vibe, and crowd of Guv that suck!!! EVERYWHERE u turned, there was a cracked-out 40 year old Asian freak doing the "sway" dance. Don't get me wrong, I'm not racist, but those freaks RUINED the night!!!!!!! It was worse than any afterhours/trance club in LA!!! No joke!!!!! The sound system was SHIT, and I had a layer of those freaks sweat all over my body!!!!!! I seriously couldn't take it anymore and left 20 minutes into Mauro's set.

Oh well, I get to see Mauro on the 16th.... so hopefully the night will be better.

have u been to avalon lately...last couple of times i was there...it was nothin but hot chicks all around...Noree and bas would agree with me...i dont see much of the old crowd lately...lotsa eye candy all around

Posted by tatgirl on Sep-28-2004 22:27:

Don't sugar coat it Julia- if mauro's set were good, it woulda kept you there. It wasn't. I think I'm just numb to the whole cracked out asian families on the dance floor thing. I just ignore them.

well you guys get him in TO all the time so he is bound to suck...we get him in LA once so i am sure he will tear it up...*hopes*...

errr.... that logic doesn't compute.

Not really. Mauro usually fucking rocks... I don't know what was up his ass in Toronto this past weekend, but I noticed he was being wierd b4 he even started spinning. Plus, the crowd, vibe, and atmosphere fucking killed it!!! It's hard to enjoy the music when there are sweaty freaks bumping into u from every angle, all damn night (yes, it was THAT bad).

and tatgirl, I wasn't "sugar coating" anything!!! You think I would fly all the way over there just to see Mauro, and leave early for nothing? I was feeling sick that night (I still have a sore throat), and the fucking cracked-out asians were killing it big time, so we thought it was best to leave. I think we left at a good time, since Mauro's set wasn't the best (according to the reviews).

I'm curious to see what Mauro's gonna play @ Avalon!!

Posted by Orbital32 on Sep-30-2004 05:08:

i'll go with the safe bet and say ferry as well.

Posted by CunningLinguist on Sep-30-2004 18:56:

AHP (Afterhourpower) the venues its at Avalon are awful. You would think that on a trance/techno night some friendly people would come out. Doesnt matter...whichever night it is...Avalon is filled w/ a bunch of idiots. No one smiles.

Posted by tranceaholic on Sep-30-2004 19:07:

i would like to add that it is mauro + JOSH WINK..should be an awesome night of music
