I'm so happy I DIDN'T buy Ipod nor Rio Karma.
I concluded that:
IPOD sucks because of battery time - maximum of 8 hours, really around 6 hours at decent bitrates
Rio Karma had some amazing reviews, BUT the comments that real customers provided were horrible.
Two different, independent of each other, people reported that their unit STOPPED WORKING after 3-6 months.
Given that the warranty is 90 days, that fcukn sucks.
So no RIO KARMA either...
I would loved to buy the IRiver, but it's too expensive...
So my ultimate choice was Creative Zen Touch,
I've had it for 2 days now and I love it.
Creative - You won.
I bought my Zen Touch last Saturday, and I'm as happy as a little girl with it
what exactly is the difference between the Zen Touch and the Zen NX series? i have a 40gb Zen NX which i purchased not too long before the Touch ones came out, how do they stand up against the newer ones?
check out what i just won on ebay
clicksy!!!
So I have a 20gb 3G Ipod..
Works great, and gets decent battery life. If you're concerned about price.. get something else.
Love my Ipod, and I'll prolly buy the 5G when it comes out.
although i dislike and find the ipod inferior to many other company's products i will say it has one thing going for it...button management, however this isn't a huge problem with other players as creative's getting better and better with the placement of buttons.
but one thing im confused with is how people say the ipod looks so sexy and is the best looking harddrive based mp3 player...wtf?personally i think all the creatives and irivers look a helluva lot better than the ipods and ipod minis..the ipod's a white hunk of plastic with an LCD that has MAC OS on it...blehh
yea sure the creative zen looks similar, but the small differences in appearance make for a much better looking product, and at 30% less than apple products, its not a tough choice.

The 60 gig ipod is coming out in dec/jan time with a high res full color screen 2 inch. And a video out plug in spot.
Does anyone else have that Phillips HDD120, I was thinking of getting an Ipod, but after some research, that's prob my last choice now.
I'm between this one, the Zen, and the iRiver?
while i know next to nothing about the iRivers and Philips mp3 players i'll tell you that the Zen's run wonderfully, long battery life, good and quick transfer speeds, excellent sound quality (EAX is a plus), and the media library along with the search functions make it easy to find any file, album, or live set you want. id highly recommend any of the 20-40gb models.
i recommend sony minidisc players
thank god the bottom of the line model was sold out when i went to buy mine on boxing day, because the medium of the line is so much better.. i can only imagine what the top of the line minidisc player is like....
but, ive had one for almost 2 years, and all the problems you are describing: short battery life, shit appearance, button placement, etc. this baby does just fine... music is 320mins per disc which is allright, as there is no limit to how many discs you can have.
also, they have 1GB minidisc players out now, which equals to like 40hours worth of music (or something like that)
battery life on mine is something like 50 hours on 1 AA battery, with 20 hours on one charge if i choose to use a re-chargeable battery (which i do)
only beef anyone might have is with the transfer speed and the ATRAC3 format, but the ATRAC3 format i believe compresses the file so that more fits onto the disc, without loss of aound quality.
hahaha, long post..might be my longest ever

So my Rio Karma locked up the other day...
It wouldn't turn off no matter what button I pressed.
Eventually, I checked the website for the hard-reset button and tried that. Now it would freeze on startup! Grr
Evetually, after some research on unofficial message boards, I found that I'd experienced the single-most common problem that Karma user's have: 'the bad Karma'. The only workable remedy for it was to hit it really hard.
Apparently, the hard drive locks up when the magnetic heads stick to one another. Since they're not perfectly made, you just have to jar things around just a little bit to sometimes get the heads un-stuck. Now she works great!
I just found it funny how I paid $200 for this sophisticated little machine that you have to hit really hard to get to work sometimes.
I still recommend the Rio Karma.
maybe violence and technology do mix...ocassionally that is.
