I'm outnumbered by the dust mites in my carpet, too. And, they can put together more intelligent arguments than any of you.

Argumentum ad populum isn't a very good one: you gotta know that.

I don't have a wife.

Then, no.

Arbiter, just admit your points are shit...its alright, your allowed to be confused, your human after all.

Besides, if you love someone as much as to let them screw someone else, your an idiot. And if your girlfriend is screwing someone else it means there is lack of love for you.

your point of giving freedom to your partner to have sex with other people would only apply if your in lust, not in love.

And my first reply was a question, not to smart to catch it though, two other people had to ask it again, and you still avoid it. Burned yourself.

Posted by Falcon-X on Oct-04-2004 19:57:

So you saying you dont mind at all if your gf sleeps with other people

Alright well if it's a good situation for you well that's great and I have nothing against it. But I think you should realize that only 1 person on 3000 thinks this way, so you saying it's wrong to not let your partner go freely with other people just dosent make sense.

By the way, alot of people that would be in this situation even if they were the ones going around would just not feel right in the relationship and it would go nowhere.

If my points are shit, why can't any of you refute them when you're obviously trying soooo hard?

The amount of people who "feel" a certain way gives no bearing whatsoever as to the validity of that position. It's a fallacy: argumentum ad populum.

Just give me one logical reason for the position. Just one! Unless you're trying to have a family, monogamy doesn't make any sense.

Posted by Falcon-X on Oct-04-2004 20:00:

about 20 people refuted them albertor just did.

i mean they have been friends for a long time, and i knew she was bi from the start, and i told her girls dont bother me, cause they dont, and they still really dont, but its just the fact that they have taken it the next step and its just wierd having them "together" now. and as far as all of you tellin me to 3 some it up, dont get me wrong, i would love to, but i dont think she would be down.

Let me explain it to you in simple terms. Either she's just cheating on you or she getting into a serious relationship and is about to dump you. Of course if it makes you feel tingly all over because she cheating/dumping you for another women then I think you pretty dumb.

No, he didn't. In fact, he failed to address them at all.

My point was (since you've obviously forgotten):

Insecurity is the most plausible explanation for possessive behavior in relationships.

No one has offered an alternative explanation at all. Instead, they've gone on and one about unrelated red herrings such as how I might "feel" in some given situations. Well guess what: "feelings" are pretty meaningless in this discussion.

Posted by Falcon-X on Oct-04-2004 20:02:

I give myself completely to my girlfriend, I would never want to be with someone else, be it for sex or anything else and she feels the same way.

Also I dont think I could have better sex with anyone else. It's a part of the relationship as much as love and anything else and so I think it should not be practiced outside of it.

Maybe for you if you completely seperate feelings and sex. I dont.

Why is it "a part of the relationship as much as love and anything else?"

I'll tell you why: it's because you've arbitrarily decided that it is. You don't prohibit your significant other from having a meal with someone else, do you? Well, then why sex? Give me an objective reason, not a feeling.

lol this is really comical. that's why i don't bother, and no, it's not because i don't know how to argue. i just don't enjoy arguing with someone with such ridiculous points of view, it annoys me. you seem to just go against the popular topic for the sake of arguing sometimes...

Feelings and sex don't need to be seperate. Feelings don't have relevance in this discussion because they are a personal matter: they apply only to oneself. In order to establish a general principle, you need something that applies beyond merely oneself - thus feelings cannot fit the bill.

Posted by Falcon-X on Oct-04-2004 20:07:

And not wanting your partner so sleep around with other people is not being possessive it's just normal in a relationship. I dont see why your in a relationship. To have someone to do your lunch in the morning? or to split the rent.

WOuld you also not mind if she loved another guy at the same time?

Pointless ad hominems and a weak attempt to cover up a hasty retreat. Your comments are a wasteland of meaning.

It's none of my business how she feels about any person or any thing.

Erm... Arbiter, wouldn't pregnancy and STDs count? Condoms aren't 100% effective after all, and I'm going as rational as I can.

You just proved my point. This is your opinion wich is clearly not the majority and it it YOUR personal matter. So dont try to establish a general principle and thus your opinion is meaningless

That's why I brought trust into the discussion earlier. You have to trust someone not to get an STD or cause a pregnancy. Sure: it's possible that it could happen anyway. But you don't tell them they can't drive because it's possible they could get into a car crash.

So explain to me why you go into a relationship? just stay single. I for one like to have things that are special to me and my gf and not shared with anyone else. And pretty much everyone thinks this way. And yes this is rationnal

Posted by Danny Ocean on Oct-04-2004 20:12:

oh please cut the bullshit ffs...

Im sure that if your girlfriend cheated on you with another guy you would mind, no matter how possesive you are or arent.
You wouldnt feel hurt? you wouldnt feel embarrased she switched dicks on you? you wouldnt feel humiliated? you wouldnt feel insecure? you have no feelings when it comes to sex?

you sound more like dog than a human to me since only an animal could relate to your points of view.

Would it be fair to ask that the other take an std's test after each time she sleeps with someone else.

Because if not it's a total lack of respect to put you in danger even if it's just 1%
