i dont wanna piss on your parade or anything, but i think its pretty safe to say that you play tracks that other people in these forums have already played (at least 1 in each set you tracklisted in your first post), and if not, then by the same artist others play, and if not, then in the same specialized genre.

please explain whats the diffrence between you and the rest of the sets 'flooding' this forum.

thanks

You just said it my friend. If I'm playing one track in each of my sets that others are then I think I'm doing my homework. Right? I knew I would be stepping on some feet here and I'm suprised it took this long for someone to post about this, but I'm sorry if I've offended you.

This board with the exception of many that I've seen lately (ie: Max Thompson, DJ Ollis, AlphaStarred, etc.) play tracks that Armin plays or Markus plays and Tiesto plays and it gets boring. I just like to see diversification in this board and not the same tracklist.

The difference between mine is that I try my hardest to do my music homework. All day, all night busting my ass to provide something different for everyone. Please, take a moment and listen to any of my 4 sets offered and you will clearly see a distinction among all the others on this board. Does that make me better, HELL NO. It makes me different, and that's something I want to be. I want to end my sets in Ambient music, I want to play breakbeat tracks that no one else does, I want to include songs that shouldn't be in a set, I want to do all that I can to gain appreciation for what I do. I do this for not only myself to better myself, but to show everyone that music isn't so one dimensional with all the top jocks.

I'm once again sorry I might have offended you, but shit, I can't please everyone. I try, but its simply not possible.

-Steve

PS: Remember I want to show that I am DIFFERENT, not BETTER!

[EDIT] I decided to take it down.

Downloading session 4 now, comments will follow as usual

It's going pretty slow though

Oh and thanks for choosing the MV remix of Crayons and not the over-hyped Leama & Moor remix

I e-mailed the admin. rigth away. Its been going this slow for about a week now and I don't know why. I will find another host if these are going this slow. The thing that upsets me is that I pay for hosting and this happens. So I'm up on top of it.

i understand what you're showing, im just not convinced that you are that much diffrent (although i havent listened, so i cant comment on the technical work).

id say that this board holds about 45% trance sets (i didnt notice if they are in a specialized substyle or not).

45% progreesive house in a very specialized substyle, stuff that usually comes out on the same labels, by the same artists, with the same sounds (not that there's anything wrong with that), i think this specialized genre is called fluff-prog or something like that, progressive breaks are in this same category more often then not.

and then there are the 10% which are divided between "others",, i sit in those with my techno, ive seen psytrance there often, and some other styles not too often.

do you honestly think that you are in those 10%?
if so, why?
you play pretty much what the second 'half' of ta play (genre-wise)

please dont understand this as if i was offended, i just wanna see what diffrentiates you from the rest in your opinion.

thanks

Posted by Steven Hays on Nov-17-2004 14:20:

Well judging that at the time I have 55 replies (although some are mine) and over 2000 views in less than a month, and close to 400 d/l's on my first mix, I think I would conclude that something is different here. The feedback clearly states it and I don't know how you can talk about my mix by looking at the TL, that's a little offensive quite honest.

Once again, listen any of the mixes and then post a comment. This argument you brought in here is bogus. Thanks.

Posted by Psy-T on Nov-17-2004 14:30:

alright, im grabbing the 3rd set, will listen later tonight or tommorow.

btw, the feedback you generated here did not necassiraly (sp?) generate because of a diffrence, more likely that because people enjoy this specialized genre, and you probably deliver it skillfully.
do you see my point?

i agree, the MV Remix is much better

solid set again

Posted by rasp3r on Nov-17-2004 21:29:

nice mix, the first transition blew me away i had to rewind my md to find it like 3 times, i liked the blue haze track and the first derek howell, and the MV mix kicks the shit outta the leama and moore mix. nice ending track i listened to this mix b4 bed and was so relaxed, fell asleep right after(usually have sleeping problems). This seemed the MOST chilled out of all the mixes which is neither good or bad. Keep up the good work.

I don't agree, i like these mixes because i haven't heard most of the tracks, you don't see him playing find, wave force, the world doesn't know, (in other words the popular songs that markus plays), he plays the b-sides, instead of playing bill hammels remix of into nothing(which is most popular) he plays the original, instead of playing the kosmas epsilon mix of wooden swordz he plays nikola's, instead of still rain he plays radience. These are just some examples. I think the songs here are chosen to be pretty new but not overplayed new songs. Just my 2 cents.

Posted by Steven Hays on Nov-17-2004 21:58:

WOW, thanks for the backup you guys! I agree on this one being chill. It really reflected my mood as do all my sets. Let's just say I think I'm gonna be in a get off my ass and bob my head mood next week and its gonna be a great one. I really can't wait to get in the music I ordered last week. One to note it Derek Howell - Funk It. I heard this track in Peter Martin's studio about a half year ago and I've longed for it ever since. God, I cannot wait for next Monday. Til then, thanks for the support.

Fluff prog, Bog Prog, McProg, call it what you want. Steve's mixes encompass an entirely different style of progressive house. Markus Schulz does not play many of the tracks he plays, even Sasha, Diggers, and JZ don't. He does his research, shops around, and finds hidden gems that others aren'y willing to give a chance because they aren't on 'the same labels, by the same artists, with the same sounds.' Most progressive breaks are actually not in that category if you do your homework and don't follow the latest playlist of the 'big names.'

He might play what the second 'half' of TA plays genre-wise, yes, but he's not playing the same recycled crap that everyone else is. The over used Probspot pads and basslines, the newest Luke Chable or Bedrock release. I'm sorry to say, but I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with your entire rant.

Posted by Psy-T on Nov-18-2004 00:30:

now rob's answer is something i can understand.

btw, from my prespective, i wasnt ranting

This is listening music, not dancefloor music. There is a definite difference and I'm glad you are willing to put in the time to produce these.

If I would have started the set with it(I didn't to respect the producers' wishes), in which I do believe it was intended for then you could have heard it in its entirety. The bass hits, as you can tell, come in very loud and pan from the left to the right. The whole song is all about panning, and the sheer production values are incredible. Very, very genius. And just to clear up who Ray and Peter are fellow Austinites Ray Romero and none other than the amazingly talented Peter Martin.

Glad you liked it.

Steven Hayes,

The majority of these tracks are very un-impressive. There is a reason why other progressive Dee Jays dont play them.

Put more effort in finding high-quality progressive records instead of this rubbish.
