Psytrance is awesome, like any other trance (with some exceptions)...

Astral Projection, Man With No Name and Hallucinogen are among my favorites.

I SECOND THIS, best psy is "controlled" psy, artists who know what they make, e.g. :
Chi-AD,
Hallucinogen,
Cosmosis,
X-dream,
Dimension 5,
Atmos,
Phony orphants,
Ticon,
Battle of the future Buddhas,
Logic bomb,
Beat Bizzare,
Shiva Chandra,
...
...

Bah, shut up. The new bassline style is pumpin, which of course, makes the music energetic.

Someone in the psy scene once said that the synthriffs of the 90's have been replaced by the basslines of the current era. I couldn't agree more, NOW PUMP THAT BASS!!!

Goes off to play Alien Project & Astrix...

Depends on perspective. Some of the newer trance I've been hearing is good. Newer psytrance is really good, it's all about the driving bassline. For me it isn't about psy, it's about the drive. I don't like passive music.

GOtta say I LOVE the old-school isreali sound (astral, MWNM, electric universe), but the way its turned now..that minimalisitc, dark, mono stuff...not too good. I'm trying to be opend minded, but still..
..I guess I'm just not ready to move on. Give me 7 more years

Cayese, Pendejo

As for progressive psytrance, check out Vibrasphere - they're really awesome. Their music is hard to categorize though, as some of it is more on the prog and chilled side than pure psy. I especially recommend their album "Lime Structure", beautiful music from start to finish.

i went to my first rave this past summer and most of what was played was psy trance.... man i have never been in such paradise... i never had really heard much psy stuff before, but i found it too be very spiritual, while th person i went with was all about the drum n bass... i still dont know of many psytance djs, but would like to get deeper int o the psy scene, as there arent that many psy lovers in my citys scene, which is slowly but surely dying out... i met astral projection what crazy djs.... whoa!!!!

Technically they're a GOA live act and they do DJ.

They're djs alright. Got this wicked vid of them spinning 'people can fly' on a cliff overlooking a bleautiful blue ocean. Long live GOA!

Thats the thing with psy, I wouldn't listen to it in my car or in my home, but get me to a rave in the forest and its just fucking amazing.

Your average clubber, or armchair edm fan, won't understand the fuss of psy, and many of your so-called musical experts and the snobs that read playlists on a friday night certainly won't get it, but for the people that feel the music inside and live a little, its quite a spiritual genre.

(y) Vibrasphere from Sweden make good music indeed, "Lime structure" is a nice album. "Echo plantation" track in the "Echo" album is one of my all time favourite minimal progressive psytrance track

I personally think psy is good anywhere, anytime. Mixed in with some "normal" trance.

progressive

can anyone recommend some good progressive psytrance?
i love the fast stuff, but would love to see more songs like

shpongle - dorset perception (total eclipse remix)

- stuff like that. slow progressive beat, yet very psychadelic and melodic. something that could be mixed into a progressive set, etc. thx!

any suggestions would be great!

Progressive can be a wide definition of several styles, IMO in essence is the slow, constant progression of the building withing the track, so there are many tunes which you probably wont consider progressive but in fact are.

Sensient - Ballistic
Overlap - Transition
Xibalba - Deeper Emotions
Sun Control Species - Daydremer
Sensient vs Legohead - Modus Operandi
Son Kite - On Air (New Disco Science Alliance rmx)
Luna Spice - Reflexion
Atmos - Klein Aber Doctor
Son Kite - The Stars Within Us
Prisoners Of The Sun - Aspirin + Cola
Shakta - Clip the Apex
Jaia - hyphostatique
Freq vs Sphirical - suzuki son
timetech - torrox costs
true to nature - breeze
phony orphants - pitch bitch
oryx - the crow
ticon - waiting for the knights
antix - capella
freq - return to the masters
genetic spin - desert vibes
mos - respirator
xv kilist - topan 5

i don't think dorset perception (total eclipse remix) is progressive but...
...ok

Atmos - Fill the hat (really really nice)
Atmos - 2nd brigade (the whole album)
Vibrasphere - Echo plantation
Phony orphants - Dead expressing
Magnetrixx (some good stuffs)
Planet BEN - Trippy future garden (the whole album, particularly the title track, a great 22mn piece of music -> very psychedelic)
...
