Just got back. Great show by Sander and Mazi put together a nice set as well. Lots of tracks from Everybody Too and the DVD visual concept worked really well, what a brilliant idea! Too bad that drunk girl ended the last song early by falling over on the makeshift stage. Great night of music, but it was very strange being sober at Vision and having lots of people thinking I worked there, because I was standing right next to the roped-off stairs that led to the stage. Some drunk guy went onto the stage, walked right past Sander, up the stairs and then tried to bribe me with $20 to get past the ropes onto the 2nd floor, I suppose thinking it was some sort of VIP area. Hope everyone else who went had just as great of a time.

Last night was great! Mazi put on such an amazing set. I've never heard a set like that from him before. Mazi had the crowd going way too early. He burnt me out before Sander came on. He played longer than I expected too and Sander didn't take control of the decks until almost 2am. A lot of tracks from his latest CD which is cool. I am glad he played Shineygray - Why (Wally Lopez Remix) - I think that's the name of the track, but I really like that song. They had Sander on the stage instead of the main dj booth which made the dancefloor really crowded. When they set up like that it takes a good portion of the floor a way; so, I kind of wished they had Sander in the main dj booth. They were using the new DVJ system, I think with the visuals coordinated with the music. That was interesting, kind of like a big 'sing-along' thing going on. I also heard that they were using a new mixer. Overall, a great night of music. and I had a good time with my friends.

wolverine16: did you take the $20 at least?

Posted by ctprincess on Nov-14-2004 17:13:

This was the third time seeing Sander and this set by far was his best! Last night was probably the best night I've had in a club for a while - there was plenty of room to dance (b/c I was in a "reserved" area - sorry guys about having to kick you out when sander came on i don't make up the rules), no cheesy guys hitting on me and I was just able to chit chat with friends and dance!

Mazi also threw down a wicked set - I haven't heard that kind of set from him in a while - I've mostly seen him in lounges/bars where the music is more low-key. Definitely enjoyed Mazi's set and looking forward to him spinning with Holden in December.

I tried to go down on the dancefloor to see the screens better, but it was too crowded and gave up pretty quickly. Spent the entire night on the 2nd floor looking down on Sander and the dancefloor. The crowd stayed until the end - which shows that Sander was throwing down some great tunes.

Hope he comes back soon!

Nice to see all of the TA's!!!

and yeah - that chick at the end of the night totally ruined the ending of Sander's set.

Posted by jonze on Nov-14-2004 17:42:

i was looking forward to meeting some TA's but i had to leave early because i wasnt feeling good. i didnt even get to hear any of sanders set. nice to hear everyone had a good time.

Posted by D&GGIRL on Nov-14-2004 19:12:

Wow, what a fun night!!! I got there a little before 1:00 am and after like a 20 minute ordeal with trying to check my coat (they won't check a fur coat - whether it's real or fake - so stupid)!!! I made it upstairs to catch the end of Mazi's set which was great I thought!

Sander didn't come on until I think around 2 or so. My first time seeing him and I thought his set overall was great except for the end of course. What the heck was up with that girl? Anyway, a little disappointed I didn't hear Specktrum, Kinda New.

"The Fruit"

It was great meeting some new TA's I've never met as well! Seneca - great to meet you and I'm going to try to make to ATB!!! JRock....thanks again! DJ2KTA - great to meet you as well and great talking to you! Had so much fun with you guys - JMC, Lucid (so great talking & hanging out w/you!, Marv.....

I would have and bought a few drinks, but I was on antibiotics and couldn't. Hopefully that happens again at the next show and I can buy a round from my "Vision salary."

I'm still laughing about the girl who ended the set, especially because she was so angry and she kept flashing her pen at security when they went to kick her out. I wonder if she was trying to show them she wanted to get an autograph or if she was going to stab them with it. I think Sander's "really really ridiculously good-looking" girlfriend had tried to tell the girl that got knocked over to get off the stage a dozen times this morning.

Mr. Squirrel sorry you missed Sander, hope you feel better.

That system was simply amazing! I got a great view to watch both Sander & the blonde guy (while I was guarding the "VIP area" ) and I think the way it worked was the guy was mixing what Sander had on the DVJ that was running and what was on his laptop (e.g. the names of the cities and "you are everybody too" or the airplane). So essentially you could have two visuals coming from the DVJs if they're in transition and another visual from the laptop. I really wanted to ask him about it, but they started kicking people out and Sander was on his phone, because conveniently 5 am Chicago time works out to the afternoon in the Hague. I hope that concept really catches on with more DJs. My favorite visual was the James Brown mugshot during The Fruit.

awesome night!!!

mazi's set was fucking killer. he was tearing the crowd up. sander's set was also killer, had me dancing the whole time (until i had to take breaks 'cause my feet were hurting)... definitely enjoyed hearing the remixes of Smack My Bitch Up, Owner of a Lonely Heart (lol), Blur's Song #2, etc... and some songs from Everybody Too. he played "The Fruit" as his first encore which was awesome. god there were so many good songs i wish i could remember them all.

oh, and that psychochick that was attacking the security people (she smacked the guy who was wearing the cap, right on the top of his head, i think tom said it was hipolito?) and falling onto the stage at the end, i said to tom, "what drugs do you think they're on, i mean, what drugs AREN'T they on." i can't stand that shit. she was obviously fucked out of her mind, but has no right to ruin it for the rest of us. i think security should've kicked her out way sooner.

the DVD screens were cool, but when they have the setup on that stage it always confuses the hell out of me. i feel backwards all night, since i'm so used to looking towards the DJ booth. but we all staked out a spot and it was pretty cool 'cause the place wasn't too packed. we all had room to dance and chill.

so much fun hangin with the TAs - kristin, JM, marv, tom, neil, D&Ggirl, seneca... you guys rock!!

but where was our phantom mod, bobby?

Posted by lcid on Nov-15-2004 02:17:

whoever took pics of the TAs, can you either post them or send them to me? PM me if you need my e-mail address.

Sander set was fuckin fantastic (a mixture of brand new tracks and tracks from his cd). His mixing was close to perfect and the set flowed brilliantly . Mazi was surprisingly good this time around. I think this was the first time I danced to a Mazi set for his full time on. The visuals using the DVJs were very cool; it definitely spiced up the night. One of my friends that never heard of Sander and really isnt into dance music really enjoyed herself last night.

I'm glad I spent the money to see him.

Highlights of the night:

Meeting Sander and getting him to autograph my copy of This is Everybody Too.

Witnessing that crazy bitch fall on the stage That I will never forget.

Sander dropping The Fruit

will get more clips and pix up tomorrow (hopefully)

i don't know...something was missing for me. or maybe i just had a really long day. i gotta agree mazi did tear it up. i think for sander's set, i went through a roller coaster. one minute i would really dig it, the next minute i would be bored. the visuals kept me entertained though. first time actually paying that much attention to them since sound-bar and space had the screens on the opposite side of sander. i agree that i hope more djs utilize the technology. some tracks even included karaoke with the exception of "i-have-a-pen-and-im-not-afraid-to-use-it" girl, i think everyone had a great time. lots of room to move around on the second floor. as for me, i think the absence of a disco nap really got the best of me.

As stated in another sander thread:

It's the fruit... that makes it fruity.

It's the juice... that makes it juicy.

It's the funk... that makes it funky.

It's the junk... that makes the junky.

its too bad about the chick - i think more people wanted to try and meet sander, but she ruined it for the rest of us. i got to briefly meet sander earlier in the evening and he seemed like a nice guy - but its always hard to hear in the club.

Posted by UWM on Nov-15-2004 14:59:

I am convinced that there is a force in the universe that is solely dedicated to preventing me from attending events in every conceivable way.

I had arranged a ride down and back to Chicago only to have said friend bail on me at the last minute because 'it was more important to spend the night with his girlfriend, and he was really sorry.' By that time it was too late to get a hold of anyone else to get transport down there. I almost debated driving down by myself at 10:30 to stay from 1 - close but wasn't sure if I'd end up being stuck in line or what so I just stayed.

I'm really pissed. I'm glad to see you all had a good time though.

yes - that was ipo - the poor guy having to deal with the chick

and i was also totally confused when i first walked into the club - i'm by the dj booth going "where the hell is everyone?" - and then realizing that everyone was at the other end of the floor. for a second i thought they were playing a cd or something or that mazi couldn't make the show - but then i saw him on the stage.

i did the same thing. was standing there drinking my beer thinking "shit i'm the only TA here? wtf?" and then when i heard one song mix into the next, with no DJ in the booth, i really got confused and started looking around. boy did i feel slow, hahah.

bobby - sucks about the ride man, should've called me.

It was too late by then. I would've called you earlier in the day but he promised me the ride, and then backed out. ******.

Thanks again for the offer, though. I'm gonna try and make it down for Max on the 24th I thinks.

So bad, worse, and worst?

actually i wouldn't mind checking out G&D again. i have heard they've improved as DJs quite a bit since they were at Vision with James Holden earlier this year. i've been digging their Bloom CD, and although i know you don't like them because they have the same G&D sound in all their songs, i somewhat tend to like that sound, so it's not really a bad thing in my mind. i might give 'em another shot.

i wouldn't mind seeing Oakie (i know he gets bad reviews, but i thought his Summerfest show was awesome. then again, i was far from being clear-headed and sober.), but he's playing on Thanksgiving and i have a huge party to go to on Thanksgiving with a bunch of people i haven't seen in like 2 years, so i probably won't make it down for that.

although i'll probably end up doing nothing since im broke.
