notice it's his first time opening for a big gun. he must be a good dj techniques wise. lacking experience in playing with big djs i suppose. it doesn't harm asking how he should play it. i'm sure on the night he'd know what direction he has to go. give this guy a break, he's 17.

it doesnt matter wether the dj is big or not, he should surely know what tunes hes gonna plays/what style/where to take it himself.

or is this a case of "its not what you knwo but who you know"

Hmm... guess you are right. But considering the promoters got him to open for sasha, they should be confident enough in him. And he doesn't seem to be lacking the confidence. Probably just wants some input as it's Sasha's first appearence in China, he probably wants to leave a good impression to not only the crowd but also Sasha? I mean the fact of asking on a forum on what one should play is questionable but it seems like he knows what he is doing. Of course, it doesn't matter whether the dj is big or not, that's what everyone would say. But in reality, there's more pressure opening for a superstar dj. If you don't, that means you are definately experienced enough or you are loaded with confidence.

I think the only thing that should be off limits to the warm up DJ is original or remixed material that was put out by the headliner. Other than that, have at it.
It pissed me off to hear people say that the warm up DJ should hold back so the headliner looks good or has an easy go of it. What kind of crap is that? If the "headliner", who is getting paid mad cash, cant surpass anything a local can throw down...well then, maybe he shouldn't be the headliner. So many of these "headliners" (and I'm not saying Sasha is one of them) are no talent ass clowns that are just riding on their names its not even funny...they need a wake up call.
So I'm gonna agree with svens_bath, twizta should be able to play exactly how he normally plays with no worries.

yeah, too right, play your own set, not a warm up. Sasha didnt play war ups, he got fame by playing what he wanted. Express yourself and show what you've got.

ugh too bad though, i know that the warm up djs me included did a good job warming up the crowd..people were on stage dancing and glowsticking..but when sasha came on he faded out the track and played stars[ambient mix] the crowd was just standing there looking at him...and 3 minutes into the song..his mac crashed

Posted by Fast Turtle on Nov-21-2004 19:39:

Oh man, I had the weirdest dream last night, I think it was all from this thread.

I had to open for Sasha, then Sasha came and was like, making fun of me for not spinning more vinyls, as opposed to CDs...then told me to get the fuck out of here and let him play because I suck so much. Then he played this record and the lyrics were about how bad a DJ I am.

Any tracklist twizta?

Posted by Pett on Nov-21-2004 22:55:

post some tracks your thinking of playing.

Dont play "nikola gala - swing to harmony" sasha needs that track in his sets right now.

Posted by dark_tenshi on Nov-21-2004 23:03:

Congrats! It's about time a DJ like Sasha spun in China. How was the crowd?
