i think people are slowly starting to realise this... just look how oakey went.

although its mainly only in america that djs can get fees like this now, in europe i dont think it would happen so much now.

I don't have a problem I just think it silly. I think the demand, like that for NASDAQ stocks in 99, is beyond economic explanation. It is a bubble of hype which will soon burst.

I think that you are wrong.

In America capitalism is king. but lets not forget what our European friends, Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig Von Mises , taught us about the creative destructive forces in a capitalistic economy. In accord with their theory, I believe time will show that these DJ's will be destroyed musically by capitalism but paradoxically this destruction will help create the setting for new DJ's to take their place and the creative/destructive cycle found in American capitalism to continue.

Firstly - I don't give a shit whether it's DJ's, footballers, Shaq or Ja Rule - they're all overpaid imo.

Secondly - I don't care if they're overpaid, as long as I don't have to overpay to see them being overpaid (ok I think my brain just imploded on that one )

....you mean you're STILL blowing him??!?

Posted by sleepydragon on Nov-18-2004 21:04:

i made my feelings on this subject quite clear plently of times on here and tiesto is a joke.
demanding fees like that he should be ashamed of himself he should be shot and before anyone says to me well u would take that fee well of course i would id take it and laugh in the promoters face.

There is a difference between being offered 40k and demanding 40k of course we would all take it if we were offered 40k to play. but tiesto demands this wage and thats where i think he is wrong hes in it for the money and nothing else the dance scene can do without people like this

Sounds a bollocks like. So how much would they be lookin a Ticket? If it is more than £20 he can go fuck. I don't rate Tiesto's songs that highly anyway - except Nyana - awesome! and of course Gouryella. I think it looks like Kelly's instead.

Posted by CynepMeH on Nov-18-2004 21:52:

Yeah... &40,000 damn.... That buys a lot of yeyo.

Well, I saw Tiesto heading towards Oakeyville a long time ago, even before his skinny head swelled up. As I mentioned numerously here, the day he started talking of himself in a 3rd person, I lost all respect for him. The only people who are allowed to talk about themselves in a 3rd person are soldiers (that's coz' they brain wash them here not to use "I") and mentally challenged people... as in: "Yeah, Tijis can spin records... yea... definitely can spin and beatmatch..."

Whatever, all I know he ain't gettin a dollar from me no mo'. And besides, as any DJ knows, once you hit #1 spot, grab all you can coz' the sheer nature of the scene will force you out in more or less 3 years. So, get paid while you can, coz it ain't comming back once you're done with #1 spot.

That's the only logical explanation I can see.

true, tiesto has to think about a family someday. Children are expensive, and they will need to go to college. lol

supposing tiesto has twins..or even triplets...and they all grow up to be DJ's...and want a copy of final scratch 2....EACH

pricey

Posted by idoru on Nov-18-2004 22:43:

Well surprise, it's not like being number one and raking in the cash is anything new.

Posted by irishclubbing on Nov-18-2004 23:05:

he 'may' be booked to play but surely not at that price ? and anyway why would judith (the owner) tell a member of the bar staff ?

Posted by Furor Aquila on Nov-18-2004 23:15:

Tiesto is an idiot. When the promoter offerd him 40K he should have turned it down and asked for less. I'm sure all of you here would have done the same.

I've heard of footballers getting paid $250,000 for 90 mins work.

Posted by TheVrk on Nov-18-2004 23:51:

not that tiesto or any dj deserves that much coin,
i'd still rather him/them get it than some of the pro
athletes who get paid WAY more.
some of them dont try, whine, complain, act like "thugs",
or REALLY act like bitches.

Of course, like Tiesto, A-Rod has a big head too... hrmmm... money... so evil...

A-Rod and Tiesto

EXACTLY, but how much bigger is A-Rod's head? a lot i'd say

...amazing what PR can do nowadays

Posted by 303 on Nov-19-2004 00:20:

its all our own fault they get paid. deal with it.

Posted by DjEuphoria on Nov-19-2004 00:39:

Geez people who really gives a flying fuck how much djs get paid. If somebody agreed to give you 40,000 for spinning 2 hours at a club would you take it?Damn right you would. No one would say, "nah, I think thats a little to much for me could you make it less cause I dont think Im worth that much".

Quit being JEALOUS of Tiesto and other Djs who get paid lots of money which really isn't that much compared to pop stars and crappy rap stars and sports stars. Lebron James got paid like 100,000,000 for advertising a pair of SHOES. Talk about overpayed. Seriously man all these people get paid millions of people for doing nothing except singing, hitting a ball, catching a football,etc.. WHile the real hard working people(cops, mailman, etcc.)you get what im saying get paid shitty money.

The world is just not right but who gives a fuck.

Posted by wolverine16 on Nov-19-2004 00:44:

The only example I know where someone has refused to take the amount of money they could is a band called Fugazi. They have no realtion to EDM and most people haven't heard of them, but they've sold out venues of 2000+ easily for years and they refuse to play if tickets are more than $6. I agree that the amount Tiesto is getting paid is way too much to make for what his name and one night's work, but the only way the prices will come down is if people who like him don't go due to the price.

I'll admit I paid $40 U.S. earlier this year to see Tiesto, but I will never go again for that price (he didn't even try). With entertainment especially it all comes down to capitalism though, because if it sells, someone is going to make a lot of money. The top Hollywood actors make millions per film, because Tom Cruise is guaranteed to bring in some moviegoers while other great, unknown actors work their way up and work other jobs to get by. IfTom Cruise offers to take the job for free, the studio will still charge the same price to see it, because they're open to make money.

There's so much competition at work, it's not possible to stop so long as many people want to see Tiesto or PvD or Oakenfold: The club is competing with other venues to book them and have to offer more money to seal the deal, they're competing against other clubs and entertainment in the city to get people to go there, etc.
