Sorry, '14's, 'F's or 'Cali's are not really suited to the types of discussions in a politics chat! Now run along with your Barbie and Arnie dolls!

Yay for elitism..... by the way if it was an Arnie (The Guvanator) doll it would be political

Bloody hell I'd hate to live anywhere where you had to be 28 to have a shag!

Jeez. If I knew what the hell that meant, I'd be there an hour ago. Some of us older folk don't speak "Internet" as our native tongue!

i dont think it really matters?

anyway, shakka, go get yourself an irc client and you will easily figure out what he meant

two people in there now

Posted by NeoPhono on Dec-03-2004 03:41:

Yeah, it doesn't matter what undernet server you choose. The room should populate to all of them. I'm trying to set up an irc portal, but undernet it pretty picky when it comes to connections, so I'm not sure I'll be able to set up my server to allow it, but we'll see...

ya even for me who is tech savey, i hate IRC... ident is to difficult with it... better just get some chat client up here.

Best thing would somehow to pop-up a chat window for users already logged in when viewing the polit forum... but that would be too cool, so it probably can't be done.

Well, if you guys want, I threw something ugly up just now.

TAPolitics Non-IRC Chat Room

It's ugly as hell, but it will work. As soon as I figure out why my webserver won't allow outbound html connections I'll get something more substantial up, hopefully and IRC portal. But until that time comes, or until I chage webservers, you can use this, if you'd like.

Although I had a nice discussion tonight on IRC.

Posted by BadBadNeil on Dec-03-2004 16:23:

I stopped by for a few minutes last night to the irc channel.

Okay, hopefully today I'll get up an irc portal, so you guys that don't want to mess around with irc client software will have an easy way to get to the irc channel. I'll let you know when it's ready...assuming it ever is ready.

Posted by BadBadNeil on Dec-03-2004 16:56:

irc doesn't bother me, i've used mirc for years for music and such. It is just finding time to chat, chatting takes longer than typing a couple second message on a board

Posted by St_Andrew on Dec-03-2004 18:34:

was also in there yestruday... was actually quite nice! except yoepus, who didnt say anything

but i agree, IRC takes a lot more time than a msg board...

Posted by NeoPhono on Dec-03-2004 19:23:

Okay, it seems like setting up an IRC portal is just not going to work. If anyone wants to host one and is able to, I'd be happy to set it up. Just make sure that your webhost will let you. Most American webhosts aren't too happy with the idea of opening up their firewall to IRC, so maybe some of our off-shore brethren would like to volunteer.

That being said, it is very easy to install an IRC client if you would like. I recommend mIRC, becuase it is very user friendly and easy to use.

It can be downloaded here

Once you have that installed, you will need to input a handle, a secondary handle and a password, if you wish. The only other thing you have to do is choose a server. You can either do this as you are beginning your first run of mIRC, or hit ALT+E, and under IRC Server select "Undernet: Random US (or EU) Server". Now, connect by pushing the icon at the top left, and after you have been connected, go the bottom of the window where you saw your connection being established, and where the cursor is blinking, input "/join #TAPolitics" (without the quotation marks) and you should be good to go.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Posted by Ek0nomik on Dec-04-2004 00:02:

If you're in the U.S., just type "/server mesa.az.us.undernet.org". Then type "/join #TAPolitics". It's that simple. :/

(The server can be accessed by anybody, but it's an American server.)

Actually, they have X--different type of service but the same premise of a chanserv - and if you register your nick with it you can mask your host by setting +x.

Besides, the starfleet servers are horrible

Posted by Petrogad on Dec-07-2004 17:37:

undernet splits more then an atom when a nuclear bomb goes off (o man i felt really smart for a second), id much rather be on a secure server, not some kiddie infested playground where trojans are a dime a dozen aka underent. becareful what coems your way. and watch out for those netsplits

cheers
