And Brent, the rotating dance floor is a pain in the ass during big shows.

sahsa 12-26.... packed like a sardine can... yet i still had fun.. and yet the music sucked...

I was there that night too. The music was ok. He dropped some decent tracks, but it was definitely monotonous at times. The vibe was great though. I had a good time even though it was PACKED.

guys it really is immaterial if the dancefloor is spinning or not, because if tiesto brings his "A" game, you all will be dizzy and on the floor anyways, looking at each other sideways, saying is this guy out of his mind?!, but with him its a hit or miss these days hopefully its a hit for you guys!!! i got a feeling since he's never been to tampa before he's just going to play a bunch of "just be" shit....

From what I was told last week...the upstairs won't be completed for this show. They are making one side of the upstairs closed in with glass so they can play hip-hop. Don't ask me why!

Then I understand they are to expand the other side and make it all VIP tables, with less standing room. The idea is to compete with Lotus and make their VIP actually hard to get into. That is, unless you buy a table. Quite lame if you ask me.

I'm hoping Tiesto will see this as a chance to influence a very large market on the ways of Trance. Keep in mind, while Tampa isn't Miami, it's still the largest TV market in the state. Meaning, if Tiesto blows it up, he'll touch more people with this one show than he would at any South Florida show.

Why do people want things like this. Our scene is good as it is. Keeps the people who actully like the music in and ones who dont out. It is still underground as well, which makes it have a very cool vibe. I mean we are not getting blocked out of being able to see these big djs. Tiesto, Pvd, and others come to florida all the time, which make FL its own special place. If it happens it happens but I say keep the market machines out! The market changes the people change and i like you guys just the way you are, heh. 2centpie

Well, Patrick, unfortunately without exposure people like my best friend are left spinning hip hop at clubs when he would prefer to be spinning trance. Why is that? Because it is still underground here. So even though he has a shitload of trance records and the talent to throw down an incredible trance set he is left spinning hip hop and the same old breakbeat tracks that you hear day in and day out. All the more power to Doug for trying to expose Tampa to trance. Without it Paul will be forced to go back to traveling instead of having a residency at a local club. That may not seem like a big deal to you, but for him it is because the scene sucks. I would hate to be a trance DJ that is forced to spin other music because there is no scene for the music that I want to spin. Once in a blue moon a trance DJ comes through town and the rest of the time it is predominantly hip hop. Would you rather have a club to go to on a weekend night that plays trance or would you rather have it stay the way that it currently is? I know my answer. I'd rather go listen to my best friend spin what he wants to spin and not what he is forced to spin. Clubs are clueless because they haven't been exposed. Time to shine some light on some other genres of EDM...trance, house, progressive.

You know, I'm actually not sure which would be a better way to "introduce" Tiesto to Tampa. Sure, all of us TA's would LOVE to hear a "Magik" set, but I wonder if that's the best way to get people who aren't TA's into it. For example, a friend I'm bringing has never been to a trance set, but know's Tiesto from his remix of "Silence" and she's really curious to see him. Which would be a better Tiesto for her to be "introduced" to? The Tiesto that spun at Bayfront or at Space later that evening?

Just curious...

Let me get this straight... Amp is remodeling to compete with a club that has a musical vibe that borders on schizophrenic???

BAH-HA-HA-HA!!!

I saw Amp resident DJ Mondo visiting Lotus and if I were him and heard Lotus' whiplash shifting between trance & hip-hop, I would've gone back to my management and told them to stop the remodeling because Lotus wouldn't be around another month.

(I actually feel... well, disappointed. Lotus' claim to having a Miami house/trance sound could be a unique discriminator in Tampa. But they're so screwing it up, I'm worried that people will get a bad impression and think trance has no viability in the Bay area.)

Trancebrat said it best. We want a viable trance scene in the Bay area. (I, for one, would love a trance club AWAY from Ybor. Driving in/out of that area is a pain.) We'd like to have at least a few clubs where local talent like DJ Santana could spin stuff he loves. We'd like to have known venues for bigger names to come visit, so we don't have to drive 5 hours down to Miami. (No diss on Miami, but the round trip takes a LOT out of me. I'd like to be able to see Tiesto/Ferry/PvD then sleep in my own bed.) I don't think anyone's suggesting Tampa be "market machined" or totally transformed. But I would think an area as cosmopolitan as our could support more than just hip-hop and breaks.

I'll say. The outskirts of that city are nasty as fuck.

I could say the same about some areas surrounding Miami's Bayfront

Quite true, but I live NOWHERE near there.

If you've driven down here on I-75 past Arvida Parkway and Indian Trace, THEN you've driven through where I live.

We come across Aligator Alley, then hit I-595, I-95 then I-395. At what point do hit Dark Angel Land?

Right before I-595. That's the Land of Darkness where I reside.

Matt...I got the interview bro! Only a phoner, but it's still an interview. I'm replying to his press agent tomorrow to set something up.

So did you decide if you were gonna join us for HPC tomorrow night?

Posted by mrmorden on Dec-04-2004 06:25:

Thumbs up

Sweet! Do you still need help coming up with questions?

Yup! The b-day party's just down a ways on Azeele, so I should make HPC easily. The only thing that might stop me is if some "introductions" a friend will be making to some of his co-ed co-workers goes extremely well... if you know what I mean...

Posted by Nocturnal Vibe on Dec-04-2004 06:31:

Excellent! We'll probably roll over there around midnight, so work it with the ladies and then bring them along.

And yes, I'll start putting some questions together over the next few days, so please feel free to contribute. I'm off to bed!

I can't wait for the Tiesto show. And then Edgar V at the Amp right after that. I think trance might be making a comeback to Tampa, hopefully. And I for one, absolutely without a doubt, hate hip hop. I play progressive house, progressive breaks, and trance at this club called the Chicaboom Room in Downtown Dunedin every other Friday night. And if I get one more friggan person come up to me and ask if I have any hip hop or rap, I'm gonna scream. Theres hundreds of other clubs in the area that play that garbage on Friday night, why do I have to play that crap too. I'm sorry but I don't "do it cuz everyone else does it". At least theres always a big turnout there, so I can expand the peoples minds whether they like it or not. Its been going strong for five months now. Sorry I just had to vent.
