SoBe is south beach? should we go with a car (from chicago) or are we gonna be ok with no flexibile transportation in miami?

You can get around South Beach just fine without a car. It's really not that big of an area. When you want to go to Space, a cab ride is something like $20 each way to downtown Miami, where Space is near.
